Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

I mean really, why isn't one of the most popular games from last year on sale on Amazon for $5 pre coupon?!?  I put a lot of time and effort into buying these 0.40 dlcs and dammit I deserve to get as many free Tomb Raiders as I can until I die from sheer glee.

For people who've followed the EC sales before it's a no-brainer that the coupons are rarely 'worth' an actual $5 in terms of bottom line prices.  For people who haven't followed the sales before... well... we can all point and laugh at you.

My last console was the original Playstation.

Hence why I've missed out on ALL of those FF's after FF9.

EDIT:

Regardless of how you feel - I still want to them to hit the PC.

They're (labeled) Final Fantasy, dammit.
You can play them on PS2, which are ridiculously cheap. PC (using a PS2 disc I've heard) and soon on PS3 with the HD edition and on Vita with the HD edition.

I can see not wanting to buy a PS3 or Vita, but PS2 are dirt cheap or you could just order the PS2 version on Amazon and play it on the PC.

Don't know why you would punish yourself from playing a series you like because Squeenix clearly isn't interested in porting them to PC in any reasonable time.

Quoting deals because I already forgot and had to backtrack half a dozen pages.

In for Tomb Raider, and Thief. Maaaaaybe in for Legacy of Kain if i'm still flush with coupons...I distinctly remember not enjoying Soul Reaver, but i'll probably get CAGpressured into it anyway.

Thanks Tony!

Also, general comment on EC since I know Tony is considering scrapping it altogether.  At the very least I'd get away from the coupon system.  The fact that you can game the system by buying cheap DLC prohibits any kind of massive discounts.  It would be better to have a promo where you can 'pick a game from column A and pick a game from column B' and buy them for a combined discounted price.

And you wonder why you're single... ;)
No - I'm single b/c I'm shy; not super-social; not that out-going; not that open of a person; and b/c me and the (obviously now ex-) girlfriend split-up approximately almost 7 years ago or so.

Are there any way to TURN OFF partner AI and just control them entirely?
So, let me re-phrase this entirely then:

Is there any way to turn off squad-member AI and just control them entirely (in The Bureau)?

Go ahead, Ashes - try and twist that one. :p

You mean you weren't satisfied with infinite free Tiny & Big steam keys?

Tony stop being an a-hole with the whole offering good deals thing. RAISE THE PRICES!!! Give us what we want with expensive deals!!!

lol

Back to reality, think I am going to grab the gta trilogy for 2 dollars and hitman pack for 8. That is a damn good deal.

Hope you have a great weekend (and we both know you will be playing Skyrim without sleep ;) )

Ha, I knew I should've waited. I just traded for Absolution Professional on Steam... so I'll just get rid of it and get this bundle instead. :)

Amazon doesn't have Tomb Raider Survival Edition on digital download, right? That's too bad, though that is a great price for the base game.

Da fuq? You're one of the most loquacious cylons persons on this damn forum.
I should've clarified what I meant.

I meant that's how I am in person socially and talking, not when typing my brains out behind a computer on the Net.

Unless I know you very well and and am comfortable around you and whatever the setting is - yeah, I'm not super sociable.

I was always much more articulate and free when typing or writing things, whether I know you well or not.

EDIT:

Internet loquaciousness =/= Real life loquaciousness
Bingo.

This issue would be resolved if Humble would hurry up with their Squeenix bundle.  Then we can 100% confirm the deals are bad!

Of course I'm not satisfied, they're basically the usual (and usually incorrect!) claim of the EC games being "Amazon deal + $5." Only this time it's more like + $4 between Tomb Raider ($5 last month), Legacy of Kain ($4 on multiple places, including Amazon), and at that price for Hitman if you split up $13 for each major half (Absolution Professional, the rest) it'll have been topped. If you were fine with Standard, you'd even get it done to the EC price level. Maybe $1 off.

FF7 and FF8, which both have been on sale in the past week in other places? Nope!

Sleeping Dogs, which apart from being on sale regularly is also now free on XBLA Gold this month and was free on PS+ some 6 months ago? Nope!

Deus Ex with its Director's Cut? Nope!

It's only slightly better than Amazon's owns offerings post-coupon. So yes, there's a lot to be desired there. It actually lives up to the price jacking claim.
So let me get this straight...Tomb Raider is going to hit a record with this for its lowest historical price ever.

The Legacy of Kain pack is going to hit a record with this for its lowest historical price ever.

If I didn't own both of those already, I would be ecstatic to pick them up.

Everything else is at good prices.

Let's not forget that just because this is EC, it doesn't make it some amazing magical place where everything is going to hit its lowest historical price of all time. When there is ANY other sale do you go WHAT THE F*#& IS THIS? MULTIPLE GAMES ARE SETTING NEW RECORDS FOR THE LOWEST PRICES WE'VE EVER SEEN. F*#& THIS SALE!! THIS BLOWS!!!

somehow i doubt it. stfu and stop being a bitch.

edit: I think the thief pack will also be a historical low. that means 3/6 things on sale in this update will be at the lowest they have ever been.

Here are some other really good, historical low type deals so far, post coupon:

The secret world 5 bucks

Brothers:tale of two sons 2.50

Marlow Briggs 2.50

Gta trilogy 2.00

Freyja's Bundle 8 bucks

that's off the top of my head. i know so far a lot of people have said this sale pales in comparison to past amazon EC sales, but in any sale where this many games hit their historical low, it's hard to really criticize it thoroughly

It seems like this entire discussion is based on whether or not a $1 discount from the previous best price should be considered price jacking. If I taking away the wrong thing from this please let me know (end of the day I might be reading this poorly), if that is the case I'd encourage you to look back through virtually any page on this thread and look at the number of people who regularly state, especially at the ~$5 level, that $1 (or 20% less than the lowest, already bottomed out sale price) is absolutely enticing.

That being said, there's not really any resolution to be had in this conversation. I'm sorry you're not jazzed by the Square Enix deals, it seems like a number of people are. I hope our next sale is more to your liking (or that you find the deals you're looking for elsewhere).

Cheers,

Tony
Mm... don't really think the convo is about "considering if it's price jacking" and more of "the gap between the last price and this one is far too small." That's what it'd really come to. It basically revolves around the claim of what's on sale. What did people remember last year? Darksiders, where it was historical low - $5 (which some people got during its normal price anyway because THQ had a coupon IIRC). Saints Row hit the low then a $5 cut on top. Spec Ops went 50% ($5 -> $2.50) under. A few oddball treats (Microsoft indie bundle) but barring glitches the stuff cared for was generally in one of two categories: 1) If it's low is $5 or less, 50% off the lowest price, 2) lowest - $5 (which again, is often found with Steam price matches). As far as historically you can take a look at last year or the year before that (but I've left it out because it crushes last year's and makes this year's look even worse) and you'll see that as the constant trend.

Or to break this down into 3 categories:

January sale price - $5 = Higher than lowest, then the entire point of the sale is missed and it's awful. Fact is to get the EC coupons you first have to spend money. This makes the value of the EC coupon worthless. This generally doesn't affect most of us.

January sale price - $5 = Equal to the lowest, 9/10 times the point's been missed and it's pretty bad. Why should the EC only bring it to the lowest level when 1) it has an up front cost to its getting obtained, and 2) it means that you could've gotten the game at the same price post-EC before the sale even started AND gotten a free coupon too. Basically it says the value of games in the EC sale are really the same outside of it, plus $5. That's the usual complaint there which constantly gets fought back to saying no, that's wrong, because of the earlier examples where it has been wrong.

January sale price - $5 = Lower than the low price is what you're supposed to get, what has been gotten. But the gap with the Square games isn't much. Instead of "lowest plus $5," it's "lowest plus $4," which is just... incredibly weak. It basically points to the above category and saying that it's closer to the truth than not. You can even look to this year's two biggest examples in Deep Silver (incredible deal there worth mentioning on its own) or Rockstar to say that hey, this one is weak.

And while I'm sure there were a number of people asking for games at this level it's also full of people who don't know what the historical low is. I mean there were a few people asking for ONLY the historical low or even higher. Satisfying them is easy.

The difference between this sale and others?

I've still got over 10 EC coupons.

Internet loquaciousness =/= Real life loquaciousness

On CAG? I'm an outspoken asshole. In the real world, you wouldn't even notice I'm in the same room as you.
I guess I'm the exception to the rule then. I indeed have as much a presumed general dislike for people on the internet as I do in IRL. I'm also just as sarcastic and grating and occasionally helpful on both sides of the fence. Internet anonymity is something I'm aware of, but do not believe in following.

I should've clarified what I meant.

Those of you who don't already own TR2012, consider yourself one lucky basturd. Planning on getting the Thief bundle just because I want to buy something.

Also planning on getting FF XIV to try out... is the CE worth it?

Actually, yes - I am a bit less shy and less uptight, if I get a few drinks in me.

Especially if it has Rum in it.
Well, there ya go. I'm not a big drinker myself, but I dabble on occasion. You head south, I'll head north and we'll meet up with pasports and his fellow hookers escort service for drinks.

I dabble on occasion w/ drinking, as well.

Thing is - I really do like to drink, as I've found out the hard way in the past...LOL.

So, I normally do try NOT to over-do it.

Sorry, me and my merry band of hookers are also shy. We'll probably all just be staring at each other in silence.

Also since I'm a recovering alcoholic/drug addict I don't drink

Dick

Question about the Hitman Pack, Steam has the Hitman collection for $8.99 till tomorow.

Any chance of price match or it can't cause of the different version of Absolution (base vs professional)?

Thank

A lot of people enjoyed Bad Rats.

But yeah, the production value and effort put into the game, characters, world, was really impressive. Sadly the whole thing just fell totally flat. One of the biggest disappointments in gaming in the last decade.

A lot of people hated XII too, but shit, that game had depth in combat, story, world, etc. For all of its flaws, it was still a really impressive game for its time.

Lol I actually liked 13. The linearity actually kept me interested instead of side questing off into oblivion and never progressing. Which happend to me in xenoblade.

xii was an awesome game if you didn't play xi. The game play and open world style were way similar for my tastes, the protagonist also came off as a Weiner to me but I did complete it.

all personal opinion of course.
