Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

"Amazon is run 100% by witchcraft."

This is what I got from that bit on how PMs work. I had my suspicions for years now and this explains everything. How else does a company with flat profits become loved so much?!

Magic.
Literally magic.

hey guys, if I am new to the Hitman series, would Absolution be the best way to jump into the series for newcomer?
Hard to answer that.
Absolution doesn't play like the older ones. It's more shooter friendly there while the older ones were basically puzzle games that just so happened to involve shooting. This flips it - it's a TPS that just happens to involve stealth. Hitman lovers panned it but it reviewed well enough otherwise.

The disguise system in Hitman Abs is fine... people wearing the same type of outfit can spot you.  This just means more care in sneaking around the levels.

IMO, while you can play Hitman Abs like a TPS shooter... you're doing it wrong... you can play a nice stealth game -- I did... I liked the challenges for steath... I put in 67 hours.

I'm scared for the new Thief...

It worked only in the tutorial mission for me.

Hitman: Absolution is yet another "I liked this game and found out I was supposed to hate it" for me.  I never played the previous games so enjoyed the stealth mechanics, made myself do it "right" (no discoveries, no shooting my way through) and had a good deal of enjoyment from it.  Only later did I learn I was supposed to rage about the disguise systems and throw a fit saying it's not a "real" Hitman game but some AAA idiotic knock-off wrongfully bearing the same name.

Sorta like the new Tomb Raider, really.

So, really, I'd play Absolution first so then you can later glory in the divine light of the previous entries without Absolution ruining the series for you.

Edit: I played on normal difficulty and, like Asheskitty, found the disguise system to make sense.  Grab a cop outfit and deliverymen and fast food workers assume you're a cop but other cops will say "Who's the giant bald cop I've never seen in the morning meetings?"  Switch it around the same for wearing a fast food work's uniform or a delivery driver's suit.

FYI: I saw people talking about AC4... as far as I know you can only get the Aveline DLC from AC4 Gold edition. Sorry if already addressed, I'm like 4 or 5 pages behind in this thread.

Same... my understanding is that people rage because you can't just don a costume and walk around the level freely.... which makes Absolution more "hardcore", right?

Mmh I got the Aveline DLC from the Pre-order and I thought it was part of the Season Pass as well..

hmm.. do'nt have enough coupon to buy both Thief and Hitman.  Debate which series I should cut my teeth into since both are cheap now. I am new to stealth.  Tried MSG and dislike it.  Is thief more like MSG?

Nope, sir. Unless they've changed something since the PC release time you can only get it through Gold and probably the European Digital Deluxe edition. I think Deluxe edition is the same as Gold, but minus the season pass. Ubi likes to screw those poor Europeans.

You're right it ain't part of the Season Pass and my version which is a Pre-order is identified as Deluxe Edition in Uplay, don't think it's possible to buy Deluxe Edition anywhere now if so it's probably Pre-order keys.

Dang, Hitman Absolution is one of those games I knew I would probably like but always skipped because I didn't have time for it. I don't think I'm not allowed to get it at 2.50 though.

Some of these bundles are also pretty good, but I'm trying to keep my number of new games to a manageable level.

I've heard Dishonored is similar to Thief, if you've played it.

Speaking of which, any chance of the AC IV Gold edition (Steam preferably) getting the same 50% discount and EC coupon eligibility that the standard version has, Tony?

EDIT: It would match Uplay's offer here.

I've got the first Hitman and... the original game is like this. There's a mission where you have to bomb a Chinese mobster's car, and you have to kill the driver to do that. But the driver is Asian. So the mobster's bodyguards will notice you if you get too close since YOU'RE A BALD WHITE GUY, and not an Asian driver with a full head of hair. Heh. :p

I like the game, but always get confused with the controls. :(

I think old hardcore fans hate if they make any changes, basically it should be just graphics update.

Then they would blame it beign just a lame (yearly) graphics update like a certain activision series.

I think Absolution was good game, but would've probably enjoyed it more as multiple different cases rather then one-big case.

Not really, it doesn't work right with higher difficulties. You can't past an enemy with the same outfit of yours without getting spotted.

Blood Money was a "graphic update" done right, even if it was easier.

finally found something to use my 5.00 amazon coupon on, thought it was gonna go to waste,   bought the legacy of kain collection for 2.50  :)

If these are the final games then I guess the Dead Space DLC and Tomb Raider will be my only purchases. Though I'm still kinda on the fence about getting the Dead Space DLC. I should wait for it to be $2.50.

Hey guys, do you know if there's something worth having on the survival edition of tomb raider? Tempted to bite on the base game but I think there's no way to upgrade it to survival edition. Thanks for the answers

A 10-track soundtrack, some digital maps, and skins. If this stuff isn't important to you, then go for the normal game.

SoundBlaster 16 or GTFO ;)
I had a Soundblaster AWE32 with 28MB of RAM in the soundbanks and a Yamaha DB50XG daughterboard. I went out and got it for FF7 PC so I could hear the XG midi soundtrack and then switch over to the soundbanks for the last battle so I could hear One Winged Angel with the choir.

Hey, it's a Square game so it's sort of on topic but not really

You went so far OT with that I'm surprised you could even reach the Post button.

Hitman: Contracts is finally back on steam, will you be adding it to the Amazon digital library? It's tied with Bloody Money as my favorite Hitman game.

Visually yes, Avatar was spectacular, but the story, the movie's universe, everthing else was rather bland or borderline nonsensical ("unobtanium", really?). It wasn't even the best science fiction movie of the year, District 9 was far more nuanced and gripping.

Just get the base version of TR2013 imo. The tombs are simple and a letdown. The base game is great.

Exactly how does this make sense? In real life, wearing costumes works all the time to fool everybody. I dressed up as President Obama for Halloween and went to the white house, and even Obama was fooled. He yelled "socialist!!!" at me as I walked by, and said I probably wasn't even really an American citizen. Not sure if that's what Obama thinks of himself, or if he was going as a Fox News anchor for Halloween.

Will there be more deals coming? or maybe some old coming back, like Marlow Briggs? :C I still have 3 coupons, but every deal comes I have everything.

You'll probably have to wait a long time for a $2.50 Pricetag on this DLC... it's accessible on Origin only and it's never been under $4.99 before this EC Coupon sale on it. Origin sales rarely go over 50% off..

You can still buy Gold edition, I don't know about deluxe but I don't see why they wouldn't still sell it in the european regions.

Not true, it was cheaper than Amazon on GMG recently (before the EC sale).

Anybody who picked up Final Exam, you had a chance to play it yet? How is it?
Like AK, I enjoyed Final Exam. I found it to be a lot like Shoot Many Robots with a bit more exploration and variety in levels. (scratch that, I see you haven't played that game yet)

+ Good combos and offensive variety (melee, shoot, grenades)

+ Looks good

+ Some level variety

- There are spots that consist of running down long corridors with nothing to beat up (not a lot - just more than some brawlers)

- I'm only part of the way in, but I keep seeing mostly the same enemies over and over

Bit on Tomb Raider.  Still undecided on what to use my last coupon on...so I'll just wait and see what else may come up before I decide.

Thanks a bunch Tony, great deals.  And if you're still taking suggestions for the last week...PAYDAY 2 would be a great addition!  :whistle2:

Well, I'll pick up FE if it goes on sale again at the end. At this point I've got 7 coupons left, I think, and the only thing I'm really waiting on is L.A. Noire Complete. I'm not sure at this point if I'll impulse-buy the bundle with it and MP3 since I already have MP3 and really would rather get LAN Complete anyway.

No. I might be open to a recommendation, though.
IP Man if you haven't seen it. A must see about Bruce Lee's master.

If you have then war of arrows was another pretty good foreign film.

And I finally bit on MP3. Got the MP3/Noire bundle for $3. Never finished Noire on console before trading in (fan sounded like it was going to explode) so it was a good deal.
