Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

In the "Product Description" section:

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

That price for Tomb Raider is sick. Even if you miss the style of the original games, if you have the slightest bit of interest in adventure shooters you should definitely get it. While I wouldn't say it was the best game of 2013, it was one of the most fun to play.

The Enslaved deal is also nice.
I really enjoyed it as a grad student simulator... I wish I could use a pick axe like that in my graduate program.

Regulars in this thread have had lots of conversations on and off this forum. Sometimes we game together. It's something people do, you know, with other people. Reducing real people to 1s and 0s is a choice.

Being anonymous doesn't make you less of a person. Everyone has a personality that they've exhibited through their writing. Now so do you.

 Sorry, boss. I guess it's not just your skin that's sensitive.
Oh, so now you bring my supple, delicate, almost too soft skin into the mix...? I hope you win the lotto one day.

Wait, that's not a bad thing is it? Well, that'll have to do because I'm all out of ideas. Maybe you get a paper cut on that winning lotto ticket. Yeah, that'll serve you real good.

Why not just buy it from Steam?
I gots Amazon credit and Tony needs a job.
I'm in the same boat actually. Amazon gives awesome credits for (some) trade ins, so I usually have more money on amazon than I do Steam.

Now... does any regular contributor magically not own Max Payne 3 yet? If not, I have 1 free key for the base game (courtesy of LN), to the first regular that sends me posts their favorite booby pic. The bigger, the better.

Hi guys,

I'm feeling really under the weather today and haven't even had a chance to catch up from any of the conversations that occurred after I posted last. I'm not going to have the opportunity to read many of those conversations, so if you could ask any questions that were super important, can you let me know?

Cheers,

Tony
Can we get a price matches on the NewEgg sale. LINK

Being a regular on an anonymous internet forum doesn't make one any less random. "This is what I bought guys, look at me, aren't I cool?" posts are just silly and any sane person is going to scroll right past them. Do you live vicariously through other peoples Amazon purchases?
Pretty sure people do that as a way to provide an opportunity to start up conversations about the games in question. They just bought it and want to talk about it. Another guy says he got it too, another guy after that had played it before and says something about it. First guy is now more excited to play the game himself.

Anyway, to prove that I am the coolest I shall post what I bought too!

Crysis 3

Hitman Absolution

The Bureau

Castlevania (in my dreams)

One of my coupons was from Metal Gear Rising, which I actually played, and was awesome.

The other was from Aliens, as a sort of gag gift, haven't played it.

Wow, what a bad sale. :D/

Only some few losers commenting here how awesome the sale is and liking each others unfunny comments.

Have a nice day my little friends. :baby:

Bought KoA Collection for 4 keys. Thanks.

yeah, I can see why is that a problem. The platformer in GW2 is awesome if you have that game. Other than that, all I saw are indie 2d/retro platformers.
GW2? You mean Guild Wars 2? I don't like MMOs, I don't like multiplayer games at all, apart from old-school shooters and Warcraft/Starcraft.

Grabbed Enslaved+Inversion, the theif pack and the naruto game. Glad I was able to use my coupons as I'd all but given up hope on them. Thanks Tony.

I have one super important question. Is there any chance that LA Noire Complete will make it onto the EC list at about $7.50 pre-coupon? If not, then I'll just get the MP3+Noire bundle now.

I picked up the LoK pack, but now I have to track down the original Blood Omen. Or should I just forget it and start with Soul Reaver?
Starting with Soul Reaver might ruin your experience of the original. There was a big improvement in graphics between 1996 and 1999.
It runs on pretty much zero current PCs best option would probably be to wait and hope GOG does a new version of it or if you have a PS3/PSP, you can get the digital copy of the PS1 version

Nice @Sleeping Dogs. I already have it on PSN...thoughts on PS3 vs PC for this game?
Well, if you have a PC that can run it well on high or ultra settings (especially with the high resolution texture pack) then PC is vastly superior. It's a beautiful game to begin with, but they actually did a pretty good job on the PC version (it didn't feel like a rushed port or anything like that).

High res textures only require VRAM not horsepower. I played it with high res textures on my GTX 260.

Yay sleeping dogs. Thank you!
Dlc... There's 25 on steam. 10 on amazon. Hell of a gap there.

I'm just wondering if we got any more last minute surprises. Alternatively if more stuff will come in tomorrow, dark souls and ??? Kind of sale.

Dark Souls buy box coming back real soon, start refreshing.

PLEASE TELL ME IMMEDIATELY IF YOU HAVE PROBLEMS REDEEMING YOUR KEYS. IF YOU HAVE MY EMAIL PLEASE SEND ONE IF YOU HAVE A PROBLEM.

Cheers,

Tony

Well yeah high res textures require more VRAM, but the strength of the card can also determine how well the game will run. You can't tell me that a 1GB GT210 will perform as well as, or even outperform, your GTX 260 (at least on a newer game like Sleeping Dogs).

Yes. But that performance difference is irrespective of high res textures. Also I consider a GTX 260 to be the oldest/slowest card one can reasonably run games on (at normal resolution/settings).... anyone with less is used to being cautious about can I run that?

Hey Tony, since dark soul is back, I wonder will it ends at 2/1 or 1/31 like everything else?

Purchased DS!  Thanks Tony!  Unfortunately, I'm not at a computer where I can redeem it, so I can't tell if the code is redeemable or not.  But the purchase worked (FWIW).

I logged 1000+ hours in GW1 as well, and just didn't care for GW2. I kept playing, hoping it would eventually grab me, but nope. The transition to a more WoW-like MMO is just a huge turn off for me. GW1 was just so fantastic with its horizontal power level, and GW2 just so blah with the level 80 and endless power creep of a vertical style.
Another Guild Wars question.

Would Guild Wars 1 be worth checking out at this point? Is it something you can solo?

Also, despite warnings that I won't see much end content in Guild Wars 2 without a group to play with, is the game pretty solo-able?

Yeah I suppose that's true.

You can go with less just fine, just not necesarily at high settings.

Though the resolution you're playing is a huge factor. 1080p gaming and 1GB VRAM is going to be fine 99% of the time and no different from 2GB+. Anything higher is going to demand more, fast. Or less anti aliasing I guess.

I might still help some people from here with EC coupons if you prepare some Amazon gift cards for me to buy whatever for you. PM me if you need anything and we'll talk :)

Coupons are done. Hope I helped you folks out. :)

I have 8 2-3 EC coupons left that I don't plan on using. Willing to help out some folks grab things at Amazon cost if you pay via Paypal (all fees must be covered by you).  Please send me a PM if you would like help, specify what item you want, and I will get back to you with a payment email.  Oh, and one individual can buy multiple things, but it's capped at 2 coupons per individual.

1. soar1229 Enslaved+Inversion Pack

2. soar1229 Dark Souls

3. Imsaho GTA Trilogy

4. Taito Dark Souls

5. Devasive Dark Souls

6.

7.

Bought DS with my last coupon, and even though I won't be playing it immediately, I doubt it'll be below this price any time soon. Activated on Steam without problems (though the key is longer than standard Steam keys).
