Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

The thread needs to be updated. Alien Marines is not $1.99 anymore, it is $9.99.

I bought the game for $2 and I can tell everyone on this thread it was a waste of money. The atomsphere is cool and all, but I cannot get past the joke of the enemy AI. And the weapons ... yuck.

I remember when Deus Ex would go on sale for like $3. What an amazing game for that price point.

Alien Marines sucks, whatever price point you get it at, IMO.
but at $2, I feel it's a must-play because of its impact on gaming. It's akin to how I just HAD to go back in time and play superman 64 and ET for Atari, never having played them before, after seeing it win multiple "worst video game ever" awards.

it's like slavery - we're embarrassed by the history, but it must be addressed so as to never have it occur again.

win analogy?
Dude what the fuck is wrong with you?

After months of lurking, I still have no idea what this means.

I've played most of the first episode (of five), and have also played bits of TTOSH. Cognition is definitely way more graphic and violent than Sherlock, with the opening moment alone featuring some Saw like torture. It's an interesting story with some good puzzles, but it also has some stupid "adventure game moments" that have you doing inane things to progress the story. I still like it, but it can be a chore to play at times and if your wife was grossed out by Sherlock I doubt she'd enjoy it very much.
Thx Ninja. Really appreciate that. It'll be for me only if I snag it. And sheesh, saw torture. Maybe it's too much for me, even.

I'm trying to figure out the best way to run a giveaway with a ton of keys, but seems SteamGifts has a limit on how many I can send at one time. So I'll need to re-think how I do it.

In the meantime, these are the first alphabetical games on the giveaway list (thanks Motoki!) and will remain open for a week.

After that, I'll either try shorter giveaways, or come up with another idea. If anyone wants to help create SteamGifts giveaways, that'd be cool too. If so, PM me the number of giveaways your account is able to setup at once, and I'll send you more info.

To start:

3 copies of Oniken http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/asQdz/oniken
1953 KGB http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/9AMiv/1953-kgb-unleashed
2 copies of 39 Steps http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/EMM5S/the-39-steps
Ace Patrol http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/AktSb/sid-meiers-ace-patrol
Ace Patrol Pacific Skies http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/r0jkK/sid-meiers-ace-patrol-pacific-skies
AI War Collection http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/PYg6h/ai-war-collection
Arcane Worlds http://www.steamgifts.com/giveaway/4zXId/arcane-worlds

The giveaways are private, only available directly through the link. Lurkers are welcome to join (but all winners would be visible through the SteamGifts system after the giveaway closes)
Thanks, LN. I'm new here, but appreciate the opportunity. Entered 39 Steps.

Where's The Titanfall giveaway? ;)

j/k.

Anyways - always mighty awesome to see you giving away whatever you giveaway in such ridiculous amounts.

Thank you! And haha! I just realized what Sepioth did. Good times.

My brain ain't what it used to be. I blame children. And that's a pretty solid theory, too. Did you know that sustained lack of sleep can cause hallucinations that can be either extremely detrimental OR extremely rewarding in the workplace? Especially when working with motor vehicles.

For every 3 successfully completed giveaways you receive one new giveaway slot. But if you need more slots you can drop a support ticket and request additional slots if you plan doing more giveaways than you can at the moment. That's what I have been told in the past.

Thanks for the giveaways!

Thanks again for hosting this. Oh and a word of warning on the Oniken keys. They should all register to Steam now and I've read that even some of the Indie Royale ones that people were having problems with previously have now started working. YMMV so I apologize if one or more of them doesn't work :( but hopefully they should.

I admit I didn't know what it meant either. Heh.

Since I know there's been some talk (more like bitter lamentation and gnashing of teeth on Tony's failure to follow through) about Sega Genesis classics Steam keys, Greenmangaming has them on sale now 75% off (plus another 20% if you can manage to put $10 worth of stuff in your cart)

http://www.greenmangaming.com/search/?q=megadrive&page=5&o=price

They also have Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine 75% off as a Steam key. That one is not in any of the packs. There are other Sonic Genesis games also not in the packs but those are not on sale right now.

*Edit: I suppose I should remind everyone of the Steamdb entry for a Sega bundle that some think may be a Humble Sega bundle which may turn out to be an expensive Steam bundle or be a Humble bundle that does not end up happening for 6 months or more.

In that pack are the games in the Genesis/Megadrive Classics Series 1 pack.

They also have all the individual games on sale cheap including the Sonic ones missing from the packs. No Toejam though that I could find.

Scratch that, the only missing one I can see on 75% off is Dr. Robotnik's Mean Bean Machine.
How'd you find TJ & Earl?

How'd you find TJ & Earl?
GMG doesn't sell it doesn't seem like. I ended up getting it a while back on a Steam sale and even then I think it was only 50% off (FAKE CAG ALERT!).

Not that many stores sell it as a Steam key and among those that do it seems to rarely go on a cheap sale.

Ah. Gotcha. I misunderstood your post as saying you'd found it. That's an instabuy for my wife if I find it. She's an old Sega geek. And FTR, "old" modifies "Sega" in that sentence. :)

Thanks for the lead, regardless. I may pick up a couple random titles and possibly Spacechannel 5 for my daughter...if it isn't too hard.

Thanks for the info!! I'll keep that in mind for next time, assuming this one goes well.

Thanks again for hosting this.
Thank YOU!!!

Seriously, people.. This is really the Motoki Mega Giveaway. I thought I had a lot of extra games to give away, but then THIS guy dropped a huge spreadsheet on my lap.

Also, shout out to Deuterium7, targetbsp, and walkonshadows for offering to create a few SteamGift giveaways for this. Once they're done, they'll either drop the links, or send them to me to drop in a big list. Those will likely run only until Wednesday instead of a whole week.

Either way, huge thanks to everyone involved.

Definitely one of the reasons why I prefer to just free-drop codes. It's a lot of work setting these up. But I've been getting some mega awesome help.
And I just remembered SteamGift's point system... I apologize to anyone having trouble due to not having enough points to enter all games they're interested in.

Yeah I know it's a pain to do these big organized giveaways, but then with key drops lurkers frequently get them and everyone seems to feel bad about that. Well maybe not Bruticus, but mostly everyone. :p

As for the points, they give you 300 to work with so that should be plenty. Also you can always remove your entries for existing giveaways to get some points back. I mean if you've entered some giveaways with a 1 in 1,000 chance you might as well pull out of those and put it in something with better odds anyway.

Thanks for this and for the peeps helping you out.

SG generates plenty of points, I am sure people will be able to enter anything they are interested by the deadline.

so is it worse I own all of them?
Probably everyone here except the most extreme CAGs will already have all of them, since most of them have been in bundles or discounted previously.

Maybe Christmas-time there'll be some surprises.

It feels like we basically just passed Christmas. And it's already March. Woah.

When was Dawn of Fantasy in a bundle?  Been on the fence for that game since last Novermber'ish when I first saw it on a steam sale.  Looks pretty interesting.  I need a bundle feed because I inevitably forget to check them pretty much constantly unless I see one mentioned somewhere.

It was in the Greenlight 2 bundle on Oct 13, 2012 and Groupees Be Mine 6 on November 30, 2012. As for feeds, I like isthereanydeal's specials notifications, although some say it misses a handful of more obscure bundles.

It's probably been mentioned, but will Bad company 2 on Amazon follow Steam's price reduction or not?

At the moment, the pc download version is unavailable at the Amazon store.

Hi, I hope you don't mind me joining one of the giveaways on SG. Been lurking this thread for a while now and just came around to register.

So, hello everyone!

Edit: Oh and thanks for putting all these giveaways up!

Christmas-time, eh?

Maybe Thief 2014, Dark Souls 2, Watch Dogs, Dragon Age: Inquisition, AC4, & Witcher 3 giveaways? ;)
