Hey CAGS,

I’ve got some news I’m both excited and sad to share with you at the same time. I’ll be leaving the Digital Video Games team in Mid-March to join the marketing team for Amazon.com’s Loyalty and Rewards program, Amazon Coins. My boss and I have talked extensively about how to maintain and continue our presence here and across the other communities we’ve created in the past couple of years. To that end I’d like to introduce you to Josh, who take over monitoring, updating, and responding to this thread. Josh will be ramping up over the next couple of weeks, he  will be posting shortly to introduce himself.

Now that the “what’s going on” part of the message is out of the way I want to tell you all how much I love CAG and the posters here. This was the first community I joined when I started this job (anyone still remember that first thread?) and all of you have had a huge hand in shaping how we think about and execute Community Development and Management here at Amazon, which has in turn shaped my career these last two and a half years.

I started to write out a section calling out the regular posters and realized the list would be both overly long and incomplete at the same time. Instead I’d like to thank you all again, you all have my deep and sincere gratitude. I’ll still be around and my gaming accounts aren’t going anywhere so feel free to hit me up anytime you want to chat. I’ll probably still hang out in the thread too :).

Thanks again everyone, let me or Josh know if you have any questions!

The Indie Store has launched!
Amazon.com is launching a storefront dedicated to supporting and promoting PC/Mac/Web-based Indie Games. Our Digital Video Games team is a small group of passionate gamers and we’re all really excited to help Indie developers reach more customers quickly by providing a quick and simple process for bringing their games to market. Additionally we’ll be supporting the Indie Store with a ton of promotions, both at and after launch. Many of these promotions are designed to give the developer the opportunity to maximize their revenue. For example, Amazon is forfeiting all royalties from bundle sales and passing them along directly to the developer, we’ve also created an “Indie Spotlight” program to help customers learn more about the games and developers they love. We view the Indie developers as some of the most creative in the industry and we want to help them continue to create new and innovative experience for customers.

Why we are doing this:

  • Allow customers to discover an entirely new category of games on Amazon.com
  • Help developers reach new customers quickly. Our onboarding process is straightforward and we want to sell every Indie game available
  • We want to leverage our strengths to support and help the developers who are driving forward innovation and creativity in the games industry
General Information

Hi CAGs,
I'll be posting deals we're running on Digital Games (PC/Mac, Free to Play, Sony/Microsoft Points/Subs).

I'm also here to answer questions you might have, get you closer to the developers by hosting Q&As, setting up podcasts, live streaming gameplay etc. If I don't respond to a question you have in thread please send me a PM. These ping my email address and make it more likely that I will see your question and respond more quickly.

Cheers,
Tony

FYI. EA Games sold by Amazon will not activate on Steam.
F.A.Q.S.:

1. Does the game I'm buying from Amazon Activate on Steam/Origin/Uplay? What DRM does the game use?

There are two places to identify DRM on a digital video game detail page:

At the top of the page, below the title:

16hm7a8.png

In the "Product Description" section:

r06ykl.jpg

2. Note on Electronic Arts Games - For the most part, EA games sold on Amazon do not activate on Steam. Most activate on Origin.

3. Note on DRM with limited activations:

Our Policy

4. Sometimes I'll do giveaways.

5. I work with developers and publishers to get fun (or at least what I think is fun) content to share with you all. Here are some examples:

a. Check out the Pax Gameplay videos here: Xcom: Enemy Unknown I played Xcom with Jake, the Creative Director for the game, a few months before the game came out Also, on this page, check out the Q&A, also a community driven event.

b. Check out the interview on this page: Borderlands 2 we did this interview at E3 with Randy Pitchford this year.

c. We've partnered with the ++GoodGames Podcast to feature many of the games we carry. They talk to the developers about the game development process, how the games are conceptualized and managed, all kinds of fun stuff. I'm working on putting together full link list and will update when I have it.

What else do we sell?

Xbox Live Points and Subscriptions:

1600 Microsoft Live Points
4000 Microsoft Live Points
12 Month XBOX Live Subscription
3 Month XBOX Live Subscription]
12 Month + 1 XBOX Live Subscription

PSN+ Subscriptions and PSN Points:

$20 PSN Points
$50 PSN Points
12 Month PSN+ Subscription
3 Month PSN+ Subscription

We also have a Free-2-Play store supported by our GameConnect technology. Gameconnect allows you to link your Amazon.com account with free-2-play and MMO accounts so that you can buy things like in game currency, premium game time/subscriptions, in game items, etc. on Amazon.com using your Amazon.com payment options and have this content delivered directly into your game.

5. Price Matching notes: Generally we do not match international retailers (GMG, Gamersgate, etc) or physical retailers (Best Buy, Newegg.com, etc.)
To check out the Free-2-Play games we offer you can visit our storefront here: Free-2-Play Store

Also depends *where* the offense is. Not sure WHICH time that was with Willie, but if it was in/around Austin/Travis County, we've looked the other way a long time for small amounts, and I think officially decriminalized under X here recently.

He lives here. Well, close anyway.

But no "normal" citizen in Austin is going to be jailed for years for possession. No way.

Hudspeth county with 6oz. Yeah, it wasn't in the same area.

I am glad the legalization thing is going on.

"Please don't go. The drones need you. They look up to you."

Congrats Tony! The coin department is lucky to have you. Coins are good except for pennies which are mostly annoying except for the copper. Virtual coins don't make my pockets sag so that's a plus. I have spent a few of my coins already on an app that gave me a free Steam key so there is potential for crossover. You don't have to be a stranger!

Welcome Josh! Hand over you coins to Tony on his way out. :)
which app :)

Her music can be somewhat challenging. It takes a listen or two to get it. I normally don't have the patience for that kind of stuff, but for some reason her songwriting clicks with me. It's probably a love it or hate it kinda thing for most people. My wife feels about the same way you seem to regarding her post-Tidal work.
I thought When The Pawn........ was her best album, but none of them were that challenging to get into, except for the Idler Wheel......

Oh, I've listened to all of them. It wasn't a radio thing--I never listen to the radio. Just none of them really grabbed my attention the way the first did. I'll admit I haven't heard the remix/re-release of the latest CD, though. I need to check that out.

I thought I'd heard more about her drug problems, but looking it up, yeah, that's all I can find. That's good; I don't really care about people using drugs, but I'll admit that when celebs do it it pisses me off because there's such different treatment versus normal people. I recall reading that Willie Nelson got caught with a bunch of drugs and his punishment was $500. His lawyer suggested a complete joke of a settlement in the form of him singing some song for the court. The $500 is barely a slap on the wrist. A month later I read about a woman caught with far less pot sentenced to jail for years as punishment. She had a couple of kids.

So yeah...I really don't give a crap about drugs. I just have an intense dislike of any situation that leads to celebs getting off on stuff that normal people hang for.
She is really really really skinny now though... even more so than before and has not aged well.

That's what it looks like with the Chrome plugin, so yeah. It's a pretty nice plugin; let's you do endless scrolling instead of having to flip pages, is the biggest appeal to me. That and the up/down vote visibility.
Really? Someone out there is actively hoping for more sites with infinite scrolling?

Hey guys!

Wanted to drop you a note and let you know that Josh just texted me. He's unable to post right now due to his account being new and unapproved. I just sent Cheapy an email about it though so hopefully he's able to post soon.

He's super excited to jump in and start posting. I should have mentioned this earlier, Josh an I are super good friends in addition to being co-workers, I'm confident you'll find him as engaging (or not) as you found me.

Talk to you all soon :).

Cheers,

Tony

Congrats Tony

Congrats on the promotion, and thanks for all your hard work here, Tony.  Don't stop making the deals until you run the whole damn place.

Then come back and give us 75% off Skyrim DLC.

Tony = T-Money

So Josh = J-Dosh!

Though you probably have to be English or know some English slang to know what "dosh" is. =/

Thanks for everything Tony, and good luck!

Josh...I don't know what you did that pissed your boss off, but may god have mercy on your soul.

Congrats, Tony! Happy for you and sorry to see you go at the same time. Like others have said, we'll be glad to hear from you whenever you stop by the thread in the future.

Question: does this mean you can accept gifts from us now?
this, add me on Steam Tony, since you're no longer in charge of DVG, I should be able to gift you any game I please. (especially Bad Rats)

You're going to give him the wrong idea... it's important to set expectations correctly...

J-Penny
damn I hope his middle name starts with a C now. lmao

Congratulations Tony!

Thanks for all those countless sales you've pushed through over the past few years. Also, thanks for helping to build a great community here on CAG. It's one of the reasons I started to contribute rather than meander through the threads. I hope to see you around on occasion.

Welcome Josh! If you and Tony are as good of friends as Tony says you are, then I'm confident my backlog will continue to expand nicely. If I could offer a small ounce of advice, just don't oversell us on a deal and then show up with a half eaten bagel. CAGs tend to hope for home runs far too often (guilty as charged, but I've adjusted to the jargon) and I'm sure you'll come to understand that eventually (if you didn't already know). In all seriousness though, welcome, we're glad to have you aboard J-Waffles.

Yeah, I think that may be my favorite as well. By challenging, I mainly mean that some of the songs don't follow the mainstream pop sensibilities - especially a lot of the tracks on the bootleg release of Extraordinary Machine. Of course, musical accessibility is highly subjective and all.

I approve of this.

And c'mon, just about everyone has played Killing Floor at some point. We know what dosh means.

I don't even know you josh, but i already don't like you. Cult of Tony forever....

No, but seriously congrats Tony and new guy who has no idea the hammer that's about to be dropped on him.

Well, there's no better time than now to come out of stealth.

Hi, I'm finix616 and I'm a CAG.

Now that the formalities are out of the way...

Congratulations on the promotion, Tony!

From what I've seen in my time as a lurker and since I signed up here

you did a tremendious job here and I'm saddened to see you leave.

All the best in your new position.

Hey Josh, watch yourself.

Some of these guys are hyenas...or toasters...

Hope your first sales event is gonna survive the scrutiny of this community.

I wish you best of luck and most of all...

Have Fun!!!

ps. I can't be the only one who likes J-Waffels, right?

I also believe waffles should be involved in the nick.

Congrats and best of luck Tony.    Welcome aboard Josh and may you enjoy your time here at CAG (and give us many wonderful sales!).  :)

Really? Someone out there is actively hoping for more sites with infinite scrolling?

It's great for reddit if you have a number of subs you follow. You can go away for a few hours and have a quite a few pages of new results. It's nice to just scroll down those and open new tabs for the things I want to actually read.

Congratulations on your promotion Tony, I know you'll do great. At the same time I'm really sad we won't be seeing you as often (I'm hoping you'll drop by every now and then to say hi!)

Just remember Josh: complaining means people wanting to love. Also good luck in May! That'll be something.

And Tony, if you guys can make Amazon Coin not be a rather useless currency that'd be great! Though the name is kind of iffy seeing how the immediate thought of the coin suffix is related to cryptocurrency today.

Don't worry guys Tony's just gearing up for April Fool's Day. He's just Joshing us, get it? Joshing us ... right, Tony? ... Tony? WaaahahahhhahahhHahahhahahahhahahha don't leave us!!!

Thanks for all your efforts in the community, Tony.  You helped build a fledgeling digital games storefront into one that arguably outshines the steam store.  They could really use you over in the physical games shipping department instead, but I digress...  So long, and thanks for all the deals.

Full disclosure, Josh: We're all self-entitled, confrontational, bitter, cynical jerks.  Know that we will appreciate all of your efforts, despite the times when our posts will inevitably imply otherwise.
