Amazon starts taking Kinect preorders

Eh, price seems decent considering there's no need to buy overpriced controllers but I think it could go lower, not liking the prices for the Kinect games also if true.
*sniff sniff* Kinect makes me all nostalgic for the Virtual Boy (RIP). *wipes away tear*

Thanks for the heads up. I'm still not sure if I want Kinect, but I'll put my preorder in now and canceling is easy with Amazon.

PS Move is also available for preorder from Amazon (releases Sept. 19):
Starter bundle [1 Move controller, PS Eye, sports game] ($100): http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Move-Starter-Bundle-3/dp/B002I0J4NE/
Nav controller ($30): http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Move-Navigation-Controller-3/dp/B002I0K6X6/
Extra Move Controller ($50): http://www.amazon.com/PlayStation-Move-Controller-3/dp/B002I0J51U/

I would be wary of buying this at $150. I feel like it won't sell very well at that price and without size-able sales developers will have no reason to support the device. Without support it will die a pretty quick death unless the price gets cut.

The thing is, Kinect is being tailored to the Wii crowd who - get this - already own a Wii. With Kinect being $150 (with no games) vs. the Wii's $200 price tag (with two games), the people who don't own a Wii will undoubtedly pick a Wii. $150 is way too much to ask for an accessory. I'll sit back and wait for this to drop in price.

If it sells out, then it's just a testament to that fact that people do not think before making a purchase.

Seriously, I cannot see the "Kinect" connecting with consumers. This just screams big flop to me but of course nothing surprises me anymore, lol. :D

Doesn't change what you said in terms of it being overpriced, but it says it "comes with a Kinect game".

150 with all the games showed at E3 in a bundle, and then I will think about a purchase. I want a PS3 and a move also, but not for 400 dollars in one package... poop

The ps3 move bundle for 99 actually isn't too bad imo.

Considering you can use the left side of your dualshock as the nav controller.

Still though, the nav and move should be one unit :/

I watched both the Kinect and Move demos at E3 and can say I was extremely impressed with Kinect. I wasn't even considering it before watching their showing of it. Now I'm definitely getting it. I wasn't impressed at all with the demonstration of Move. Also this price is a guess. Microsoft hasn't announced the official price yet.

Kinect is the #2 best selling 'video game' at Amazon on their chart right now.

what a bunch of complainers! sheesh. look, it isn't for everyone, but for those that want it, cool. Also, not a deal thread but my two cents are-

someone mentioned would only pay 150 for all the 16 games shown at E3 and the kinect, wow. really! that is like over 800 dollars of items, your crazy dude.

Also look at it this way too, to buy an extra wii controller, the extra wii nunchuck, the extra wii plus is almost 100 dollars there, the move extra controller and nunchuck type add on is 80+, so 150 is not that bad comparing it. Because when i buy the move i will have to pay 180-200 dollars, because why would i want to play it alone!
lol this is going to sell out? i find that hard to believe
Even harder to believe people want this pos. Lots'a loose wallets in here.

there's still a possibility the price will drop before release, and if that's the case all preorders get the cheapest price. it certainly isn't going up, not with amazon's preorder guarantee. plus, for $5 you get release date delivery. and as always, you can cancel up to the day before they ship it. since they don't charge your card until they ship it, i recommend anyone who's interested go ahead and preorder, and wait and see how demand and pricing will go. cancel if necessary.

I meant the 6 main games that they showed during the conference. No idea where 16 is coming from... And I wouldn't even call them full titles compared to other games on the XBOX platform. If MS thinks I am going to pay 60 bucks for Kinectanimals etc., I really hope that is not the case.

I am, however, excited at the possibilities at what Kinect and Move can bring with sweet graphics. We shall see.

Yeah, not happening. It very well may come with Wii... err, Kinect Sports (just like Move is packed with Sports Champions), but there's no way Microsoft is packing multiple titles that they can charge $60 a piece for in with their $150 peripheral.

And yeah, put me in with the "$150 is wayyyy too much" crowd. Segmenting your userbase is never a good idea (ask what's left of Sega) and there was NOTHING showed at the their press conference that leads me to believe that this will be used as anything more than a dumping ground for mini-game collections and Wii shovelware ports.

eh i preordered one. i dont think i want one at this point but ill just cancel it when it gets closer if i want to.

Yeah definitely not getting a Kinect. I think M$ conference was crap all together. Fable, GoW3, and Halo were the only games I remember and thats was what i was expecting.Im liking the Move alot more. And after seeing you guys say you wont need the Nav, then Ill take the Move. I was wondering why they didnt bundle the Nav, Move, and Camera in one.

I know you dont have a controller with Kinect but it still looks like you have less control over your character.

Yes, it would be one thing if there was actually any worth while software that was shown for the Kinect. Everything that has been on display is craptastic beyond belief.

Spot on. I am also hesitant to pick up the PS3 move for the same reason, but supposedly they are trying to make a lot of core games too... I'll believe that when I see it though. If they make the next Elder Scrolls game w/ motion controls, I'd probably buy it just for that haha.

I think when devs get the hang of kinect, some really decent games will come out. Even if its not complete motion capture or whatever, w/ proper motion scaling and gesture shortcuts the illusion of complete control will be there and the games will be fun.

This. I couldn't agree more. This is bound for the bargain bin in two years time. The games are going to mostly be party and casual games. People already own Wii's and to compete with the Wii in the area it excels at is pure lunacy.

I believe this and the Sony Move will fail.

First off, of course people don't want to pay full price. A lot of us prefer to buy our games for $5 or less. I'm cheap, that's why I like this forum, many other people agree with me and my cheapness. To complain about others complaining is odd to me since this isn't the fanboy forum. It's the cheapass forum.

Now that that's out of the way:

Wii: $200 (comes with a controller, a nunchuck, a motion plus, and 2 games)
3 more Wii Controllers = $120
3 more motion pluses = $60
3 more nunchucks = $60
Total price: $440

PS3: $300
4 Move Wands = $200
4 navigators = $120
1 eye toy = $40
Total price: $660

This assumes no pack in's since the Wii has a some games that have motion plus packed in. So far there's been no word of pack in's with games on Sony. There is ZERO chance that anyone who already owns a Wii but does not own an Xbox or PS3 will buy a new console + motion controls. This means that the only people buying these motion controls will be folks that already own the consoles. Of those people, a lot of people (not just those in this forum) think it's too expensive. You should also take into consideration that most add-ons like this fail.

Consider that these are just controllers and nothing more. These consoles already have controllers. If you're a game developer, what controller are you making the game for, the one that everyone has a controller for or the one that 12,000 people have a controller for?

If you buy either of these at launch instead of waiting to make sure they are successes, there's a good chance you're throwing your money away. There's also a good chance that Kinetic will lower in price over time (i'm not sure about Move). One last thing to consider: the next gen consoles will likely be released in 2012 or so. That would mean these have 1-2 years of development. Why would you drop this kind of money so easily when there's so few time for people to make games for them?

I think the more important thing to consider here is that motion sensing is already starting to go down the tubes as far as interest. The Wii's sales are slumping, and come on.. If I need to explain to you why it'd suck to have to hold perfectly still while you watch a movie on your 360, you don't need this.

;) Well (and I may get flamed for this), but tons of people love the IPAD and come on that's a big waste of money if you compare price with ability of use. So I think the Kinect will do well.. at least initially. :)

I think MS should come through with an adult line of games for Kinect :p. Here comes the porn industry! Or not...

Preordered just to get it in early. Can always cancel and unlike the other two consoles with motion controllers, I only have to buy one item and that's all. One very expensive item, but we will see. Still 5 month away to hear and read on it.

Yeah but the thing about Kinect is it really does the opposite of what its suppose to be. It limits your control and actually makes it less than with a controller. Like the Star Wars demo thing, you dont actually move your guy, it just flys you forward after fighting everyone that of course runs up to a Jedi. Those were some retarded Stormtroopers. I could be wrong about this, I just dont see how you could play a FPS with Kinect.

Move won me over just by showing Sorcery. Then older games like Heavy Rain and RE5 will be patched to use Move, the Heroes altogether, Sly Collection. Then Twisted Metal made me absolutely love what Sony did.

Kinect $150.

You don't have to buy anything else for others to play :>

Yes, I agree at least with the Wii I can chill out and sit down with games like Mario Galaxy 2. I cannot see myself playing that Joy Ride game standing up and only standing up. It's just weird and again other than that game, I don't see anything with real depth to it. Of course, it is still very early on but I think this peripheral will fail before anything remotely interesting is actually developed for it.

The Move is taking a little better approach and I will admit Sorcery looked pretty neat.

Yeah but is that b/c 90% of the games on Wii are 3rd party crap games?

You sort of need a game though. ;) and they are being listed at $60 of course that could change. Honestly, if one would to compare, you also need the Xbox as well. ;)

I was just about to reply that you needed a console. Honestly, why would someone want the Kinect when most people already have a Wii? They are going to have the same exact kind of games - except the Wii has a 4 year head start on the library and a 70 million head start on installed user base. I have a feeling that motion controls will mostly just be an add-on for some crappy extra functionality in a game for most games. Most games that are only motion controls will likely be a crappy port from the Wii. These games will be developed for the Wii because it has the installed base.

$150 + $60 games is crazy. I feel sorry for the poor chump who buys Deca Sports for $60, that thing wasn't worth $20 on the Wii. Something tells me that the Kinect won't teach them how to program.

Just got word that GS will have a $399 Xbox Slim + Kinect bundle this fall, so a lot of you might want to wait if you are considering getting a Slim, and can wait a few months...
And MS will take notice of that and set the price at $150 since its already getting mass pre-orders at that price point.
Indeed, very disappointing.

Kinect is going to come bundled with a bar stool so you can still sit on your ass w/ some of these optimized for standing games.
Would rather buy $150 worth of buried ET games.
Seriously, think of how many games you can get for the price of just this hardware.
