Amazon: Trade up to the 3DS Promo

Interesting, but $50 off $250 for my DS Lite doesn't seem too exciting. Might keep it around as a backup.

What were the trade-in values prior to this "promo"?

I've thought about trading my DS Lite a few times but then I remember it might be the last machine that can play GBA games and I keep it. I would have gotten a DSi XL a long time ago but then I remember it can't play GBA games.

I like GBA games. I'm keeping my backlit clamshell GBA too for the same reason (it's the last design that plays original GB games.)

Unless I'm mistaken, the 3DS has no plans to support GBA games, which is fine. But that's why I'm keeping my DS Lite.

I hate to say it but if you're gonna trade it in, GS might be a better option. At least if your dsx gets rejected by them, you know why. I wouldn't trust NorAm with any console at this point.

You know, initially I thought to myself I didn't pay much more than 50 for my DS Lite in the first place so why wouldn't I want a discount? And then I remembered I subscribed to a website that if the 3DS ever has a sale of any type, I'll know about it. And not only that, the majority of the nation was puzzled when they saw the initial release price. I could almost get a 250GB 360 for that with 2 free games. I think Nintendo is going to grab the initial people who MUST have it and then we'll see a price drop for the general public. After that happens and the 3DS can play all the old games I want it to, then they can have my DS. But not before.

What is that website you mentioned? It sounds quite nice.

Ah jeez. Question is if I should keep my DSi until after the launch so I can transfer my DSware, or come to terms with not needing boxlife or Shantae ever again.

considering how picky NorAm is with games (to the point where i i get paranoid when i send games to them unless they are sealed) i think hardware would be even riskier.

for games you need the coverart with ubc, case, game, and instruction booklet (i only heard 1 time where someone got by without the instructions). i wouldn't even know where to begin how to send hardware in. do you need at least the original box and upc. good luck with that.

Lame. These the trade in prices before they "matched" anything. I thought amazon would do better. Btw does GS give and extra 10% on consoles too for PUR members?

Thanks. That convinced me and I'm keeping my DS Lite.

I had some trouble with them a few months back and posted about it in the Amazon Trade-In thread after seeing people have similar issues. I got the impression that those incidents were very uncommon though. Have there been more problems since then?

I'm pretty sure you dont get the 10% on consoles

I think I'll wait on the 3ds, I have bought pretty much all the nintendo handhelds (no og gameboy, virtual boy, or gba micro). But I'm strapped for cash at the moment, and more colorways/potential price drops would be great. Then again, I do have 2 ds lites, but $50 isn't that much... decisions decisions...

Well I sent in my DSI..with charger and stylus and it was sent back rejected for being incomplete. Waste of my time, amzon did give me a $20.00 promotional credit for the hassle but I will just trade it in to Gamestop, they never hassle you. Even on the trade in page it does not specify that the systems have to have the boxes or manuals just the games, so go figure.

One word: TAX... I choose amazon everytime to avoid paying 8.5% tax that GS has to charge. I'm anal and keep all my boxes as well so I doubt I'd have anything to worry about with trading it in.

Do they require box, manual, etc? I might have those for my DSi, but I don't know. Also, how will the transfer of DSiWare work? Will I need to have both my DSi and the 3DS at the same time to do it? That's a big issue. If you need both at the same time then this deal doesn't work.

Nintendo had you by your balls. ;) I was in the same dilemma until I thought more pratically, do I really have time to play all the old stuff on the older systems? The answer is an obvious no, so I sold both the GBA SP and DSLite. Now just waiting for 3DS release. I've been gaming since Atari 2600 so I've owned lots of systems. This situation comes up every time during hardware change and I usually favor praticality. I did however, keep a Dreamcast because it is Sega's last console (didn't do the same for NEC, Atari, or Panasonic :p ), Also kept the original Xbox because there are few games that'll never see squals and are not on the 360 backward compatibility list (Rallisport series for example). These two pieces of hardware were my favorite last generation. The PS2 and Gamecube were meh.

The 3DS may not support GBA games out of the box, but I'm sure Nintendo is working on an emulator which will make GBA games play on the 3DS via Virtual Console/Handheld further down the line.
