Did anybody else catch any 60 gig news from Microsoft at E3? I had to leave for a bit and missed a little, but I could have sworn there was nothing. ;\

Oh well, a 60GB drive would be nice for storing more demos. 20GB model is really more like 13ish, which fills up fairly fast with all these 1GB demos. Still, I think hitting a lower price point with a hard drive model is probably a good move for them, versus keeping the same price but just slapping a larger drive on-don't think that's going to move many more systems.

...unless maybe it's only $350 until the 20GB units are gone, and then it drops to $300? That's kind of what Sony did with the original 80GB Playstation 3.

Don't forget these probably use the new Jasper chip, so they'll be the most reliable and use the least power of all the 360 revisions so far. I'll be picking one up as I've been wanting the HDMI port for a while.

That's HUGE, because it means the 360 effectively just got about as quiet as the Playstation 3! Honestly that's my number one complaint with it, and I bet that's kind of why they did it.

I actually thought of that as a solution-I mean they can lock the game up and require a disc check, but it was theoretically possible...only I didn't seriously believe they'd do it!

I sort of have to rethink things now. That was my main 360 complaint. I like how much quieter the PS3 is, but I dislike the lack of wired controllers, dislike how the PS3 does wireless, etc.

It's $50 more than the current pro, but you get 40 gigs more and the Gasper chipset, which supposely will not get a rrod so I think it's a good deal

We don't know if Jasper is occurring at the same time as this 60GB model (and sooner or later it'll spread through all models).

Also remember that Falcon already has a die shrunk GPU (and CPU), this just further shrinks the GPU.

I am REALLY excited by this install to drive thing...I love the 360's games but HATE how it sounds.
Timmy, the guy right above you says it's not sure, so why the hell are you asking? I said probably. ~ ~
wow why do people have to be jerkoffs...YOU said probably, the guy above me said 'We don't know' so i'm asking to see if anyone has more insight...maybe someone has more info on the subject then YOU...

If you ask a dumb question, don't expect us to pet you on the head or give you flowers. No one has that insight yet because the information is not available yet. In fact, we probably won't know until the new consoles hit stores and someone checks the power output or opens up the system. Microsoft doesn't announce the new chips when they roll out because it would affect sales of consoles that don't have the chip.

Wow, about the size they should have came out with as standard 2 1/2 years ago. Another brilliant Microsoft decision, how many content sales have they lost giving people an effective 10-15GB disk this long. . .

dude your cool take jabs at people on the internet if it makes you feel like a big man, why is it a dumb question when it was there was not an answer already, only guesses...in any case i'm done...stroke your big epeen as much as you want bro...

The even bigger question is will the Jasper chipset make any difference anyway? So far it doesn't look like their past efforts to fix the problem have resulted in any tangible effect. I get the impression that they don't really know why it's happening and they are just stabbing in the dark. I'd not only wait on the Jasper, I'd wait to see real evidence that it makes a difference.

Falcon was supposed to have a 16% failure rate as of earlier this year (as per a Next Gen article), while the first two version had estimates ranging from 33% to 66% failure rates. So even at 16% (if that's holding and not getting worse as they age) that's at least twice as reliable.

That said, the GPU already was shrunk in Falcon...this just shrinks it again. Every bit may help though.

I'm curious if this new version will be have a quieter optical drive than the current version. That would be reason enough for me to buy the new one.

The longer components are exposed to heat and used, then their theoretical limit for failure is reached sooner. Like you said, we won't really know how effective Falcon is until the time period of the sample is the same as the previous 360 versions.

For those wondering, the GPU on the Falcon is approximately 80 nm and the CPU is 65 nm. Jaspers are supposed to be 65 nm for both. Last time I looked, Jasper won't make it out until August.

I'm not switching to a new 360 (I have a Falcon Elite) until they move to a slot-loading or fliptop drive with a slimmer design :)

Yeah, me too. That's always been my number one complaint with the system. It's mind blowing to me that they'd release it in this state.

My guess is (though they may never admit this) the upcoming ability to copy games to your hard drive is the work around to deal with the noise issue. It's got me rethinking which system to use as my primary...

There is no such thing as a quiet DVDROM drive spinning at 12x rotation. The upcoming copy to hard drive option is the way around DVD noise.

I wouldn't bank on it. While Jasper wil likely start to become available in August to September, in the past CPU/GPU revisions never matched up with new model introductions or hard drive sizes. 60GB models will likely be a mix of Falcon and Jasper for quite some time.

Also, although Jasper will use the least power and be cooler there is no guarantee it will be any more reliable than Falcon. They will most definitely use a cheaper GPU cooling solution for Jasper which of course opens up the possibility for new problems. Falcon has proved reliable, so although it eats more power I don't see any concern over reliability with it. The real problem was with Xenon because the GPU cooling solution wasn't adequate for the heat it gave off. That was solved with Falcon, though, so I wouldn't worry about getting a Falcon console.

That being said, RROD will never be eliminated. There will always be defective electronics, and on XBOX 360 RROD is the self-diagnostic tool that informs the user the console has a hardware issue.

Quite true Ruined. Nice response. I could definitely live with a Falcon if I have to, but somebody will figure out how to tell which chip is in the console from the manufacturing date or batch, so I'll wait until that's happened.
