And Now...I Need A PS3.

I've grown tired of my 360, and am either going to give it to my brothers, or just sell it. I'm switching from Wii60 to PSWii, due to many complications with Microsoft's customer service, XBOX Live, and other problems i've come to find.

Honestly, for the games I like, if it's not on the PS3, then there's usually a PC version (Gears of War).

So anyway...
I've located a 20GB and a 60GB, and a 80GB isn't out of the question either.
Now, my initial plan was buying the 20GB, and tossing a 120GB HDD in there, then again I still need to study the PS3's architecture a bit more before I go off tossing this there and here.

But, I'd definantly need a valued opinion from your guys and gals here,
should I go with the 20GB and swap out the HDD, go with the 60GB, or just go ahead and grab the 80GB. I know it's probably an obnoxious, and frequently asked question, but I rather get the opinion of those who own the system, those who've swapped out the HDD, and those who give a bit more information on what i'm trying to do after reading this rambling of mine! XD

I will just say, 20GB HDD is definitely not enough and will need a bigger HDD right away. I swapped out the HDD in my 20GB and it was easy (only hard part was making sure I did not strip the screws). However, in some ways, the 20GB is the SKU I'd recommend the least (because it has no WiFi, and it's somewhat difficult to get it (along with being expensive)). That's one reason I wish I never got a 20GB and even would prefer a 40GB (because of WiFi).

I definitely recommend going with a PS3, but you should have asked this in the PS3 forum, under the PS3 FAQ thread IMO.

I'll give you meaning good reasons and explain more, tomorrow sometime (heading to bed now).

No need to worry about swapping hard-drives. As long as you get the right size (laptop HDD) you'll be fine. The day I ordered my PS3 via SonyStyle I ordered a 250GB HDD from tigerdirect. The install went without a problem and after a quick format (performed by the PS3 at boot-up) everything worked without a problem.

If you want wireless internet access, get the 60GB. Also the memory card reader has come in handy for me a couple of times. I really enjoy my 60GB model. You should still get a bigger HDD for the 60GB.

I wholeheartedly endorse this product, statement and/or event.

The 60GB is probably the best, I do at some point in time plan on creating a secure wireless network within my home, but i've been known to keep most things hardwired. More than likely though, i'll be going with WiFi as i'll be taking my Wii online soon for SSBB, MKW, and other titles.

So, 60GB it is.
Just gotta wait for that damn stimulus check...
(COME ON JUNE)

thats what I got and I love it.

I am actually pondering getting a 320G hdd for it so I can stop streaming movies from my external HDD. but movies not with standing, you MUST go for the 60

Go with the sixty gb unit, or wait for the MGS4 80 gb unit. If you have a lot of PS2 games you want to still play, you can check the BC list if you're interested in the eighty or just be lazy and buy the sixty. ;)

The highest price you should pay for a 60gb PS3 with controller and basic cables (composite) is $400 IMO.

At this point and time, I would say go for the 80gb MGS4 retail bundle. You're essentially saving $15. Tax would basically equate to s&h costs, plus you'd have a year warranty. You have a fair amount of back compat in there, which is good.

You have made the right choice my son. Come give daddy some sugar!:D On a serious note I feel the same way you do.

The only thing I'd worry about the 60GB is, out of all the PS3 SKUs (in several polls comparing who owns what SKU and what SKU failed), the 60GB has by far the highest failure (partially because it is the PS3 SKU containing the most components, and when you squeeze more components onto a PCB, chances of failure does increase, based on what I learned through college). The failure is still much lower than another console, but that's the warning. The 20GB has been the most reliable it seems, although there are only 150k in the U.S., there has been like 2-3 reports of one breaking (and I'm talking about the biggest PS3 forums here). 80GB has been pretty low so far, and the 40GB isn't too bad either (slightly higher since that's the only SKU Europe has been getting for a while now, but most people who have taken theirs back did it because they tried playing a PS2 game and wondered why it didn't work.....a few did that at a PS3 forum who were regulars).

60GB should be fine, but that's my warning (and mostly all 60GB consoles, unless ones purchased in stores, should be out of warranty, since I believe Sony completely stopped manufacturing them after March 2007).

If you have any interest in reliably playing PS2 games on your PS3, get a 20 or 60 gig.

If you have any interest in playing decently upscaled PS2 games on your HDTV while having reliable compatibility with said games, get a 20 or 60 gig.

If you just want a game system and don't care about wi-fi, get a 20 gig and upgrade the hard drive. I have found the various card ports to be extraneous and would have preferred a built-in PS1/PS2 memory card port.

I just REALLY want them to release the white PS3 soon. I am getting very impatient now. I'm about to head over to sony and kick them in the fromby until they give me it. (6 months left on my warranty...)
