I didn't have your town name. I just PM'ed you.

Just had daroga and jfunkdpg in my town but got a message that the connection was lagging and then the game reset. That sucks.

EDIT: I think we need an official AC thread (similar to the MK ass kicking thread) to handle invites, trades, etc.

Hopefully the disconnects won't keep happening. One word of advice, save before you visit another town.

Snagged a copy this afternoon from GameStop. They had a stack of at least 4 or 5 "non-preorder" copies. Enjoying it so far. Some observations:

- I love the surround sound! If you haven't enabled this via the telephone upstairs in your house, make sure you do so. This game sounds better than the GCN version (and that's saying something). Now I'm really be itching to get my K.K. Slider tunes.

- The intro inside Kapp'n's cab is very atmospheric and IMO a better opening than the GCN train device.

- I like how you can switch between stylus and standard controls without having to change settings.

- Not very many people in my town. Only three other folks so far. How many do you guys have?

- Text entry with the stylus is SO fast compared to the GCN method. Letters are not nearly the pain they used to be.

- Graphics very good, though it's taking me a while to get used to the roly-poly landscape.

- LOVE all of the museum additions. I guess the cafe is where K.K. will play. Briefly checked out the constellation designer. So neat! And the galleries seem much bigger. More to collect!

Can't wait for my Nintendo USB wi-fi dongle to arrive. As soon as it does, you're all welcome to visit Fair Oak!

Question.. on the GC version, I remember a dog outside by the train on Saturday nights around 8 or 9 playing a song.. is he still in the game? He was one of the coolest characters

Picked mine up at Best Buy yesterday. At first i didnt see it but found it shoved in back of a couple other games. They only had a few left. I was just happy they had it so i could use the coupon for 10 off. You guys think the guide is worth it?? I didnt hvae it for the GC version

He's going to play in the coffee bar in the basement of the museum

Yeah, the first time I went to the coffee shop, I was like, sweet, K.K. has a venue now! No more sitting on a box at the train station.

So what is the benefit of Brewster's coffee? Does it just make you smile or is there something else that I'm missing? Also, can you ever get him to talk to you?

I dunno, I kinda liked the box right outside the train station...it gave him a cool "wandering homeless entertainer" charm.

Well, if it makes you feel any better, there are a lot of coffee house performers who are still essentially homeless.

;)
Hopefully Best Buy will get this tomorrow so we can use the $10 coupon scan. The ad says wednesday though...
Do you mean the 10% coupon? Otherwise, where is this coupon of which you speak?

How many letters can you use for your town name?

I'm thinking "Shitsville" with my personal favorite character name "lilshit".
Shitucky
Shitigan
...still need to make it smaller

I think it's always three neighbors at start. In two or three days, two or three more will move in.

The log-style landscape scrolling is weird, to be sure. However, remember that AC on GameCube had the Zelda-style separate screens scrolling that was pretty annoying. This is much preferred.

When I get some time today, I get to check out my bigger house and Nook's new store!

The scrolling screen does make fishing a little harder. Used to be you could go two screens and the fish would "refresh." Now you just have to walk around and find them. Like real life. Boooooo... ;)

Looked around the museum again today. Man is it huge. I hit that second fossil room and was like, "Oh...my...god." It'll take forever to find all this stuff.

Was able to get a bug net and fishing rod. No bugs in winter except the mole cricket and I have no shovel. Hehe. I love the new way bugs and fish are handled. The neat little info file and better pictures are extra incentive to collect them all.

I found the mole cricket, but missed him with the net and he got away. Stupid stylus...
I am about to go pick this up along with the guide tonight at Best Buy. W0000t I can't wait!!
Went to Best Buy, Circuit City, and Target looking for the guide tonight with no luck, though I did manage to use the $10 BB coupon and a $5 GC to get the game for $20. I'll just return that unopened copy to GameStop. $15 saved!

Anyone spotted the guide in B&Ms yet? I'm about to use the 20% off guides at EB.com to get it.
My local bestbuy says it has the guide for like $12.97. BTW Tybee, how did you stack the coupons?
It wasn't stacking. One was a $5 RewardZone gift certificate and the other was the $10 coupon that's currently circulating.

What all is in the guide? I don't want huge amounts of spoilers, but if it's got some fun stuff in it, I might be interested.

I LOVE the rolling landscape now. I was curious so i watched some videos of the GC version...i had completely forgotten the multiple "screens" it was made with. I think that annoyed me more than anything else.

i agree with you.. but the game was still so damned addicting...

The guide for Animal Crossing is not like the guides for other games. Since the game is not linear, there are few spoilers that are going to ruin your enjoyment. While it does tell you the holidays and what happens during special events and such, it really functions more like a catalog than anything else. If anything, it makes you want to play more because you see that one piece you're missing. You can see all the furniture collections, clothing, etc. that is available, decide what you like and focus on getting it (though it's not going to be any easier than if you didn't have the guide). It also contains patterns you can use at Abel & Mabel's, a list of the songs you can get from Totakeke, bios on all of the townsfolk, etc. It's kind of like a TV Guide. It tells you everything there is to do so you can schedule and pursue what interests you....unless you feel like having a guide ruins the surprise of turning on the TV to see what's on. ;)

I'll have to call around for the guide this weekend. I liekd the GCN one, so no doub tthis one will be interesting to read as well.

I found plenty at WalMart, as you guys suggested. It's neat, but some of the item pictures are REALLY tiny. I like how it has some neat Nintendo patterns in there. That was something missing from the GCN guide.

Does it seem to anyone else that they've really cut down on the holidays? I know there was a conscious move to keep it from being too centered on "North American holidays" (I guess that means Thanksgiving), but did they have to excise Hannukah/Christmas/Kwanzaa altogether? As it is, the only December event is the New Year's countdown. I miss Jingle. :(

For the love of gawd, I must resist buying this (and also a DS, since i dont have that either).

Animal Crossing was one of my favorite games for the GC. I just wished it had an online mode, like this new version does.

I so want this damn game. Maybe I can justify it as a Xmas gift for my significant other, with a copy of Castlevania (he looooooves Castlevania).

A bit late, but Nintendo Power is probably the least biased magazine as of late. They may be biased towards Nintendo, but they don't whore out perfect scores anymore like they used to.

Go away.

I was considering getting a used Gamecube and a copy of Animal Crossing. I regret trading mine in a while ago. I picked it up on DS instead, and it's so much better than the Gamecube one. I love the rolling landscape, I don't know how I enjoyed the game before without it. The only thing I was really bummed about is the lack of a lost and found.. however, there's a recycling bin or something in the post office where people drop random stuff off, you can get stuff from there.

I can't wait to get a wi-fi adapter to play this online.

I'll pass on that, thanks.

Someone doesn't like simple facts much, it seems. Since they redesigned the magazine, it became hard for a game to reach a ten out of ten, with only Resident Evil 4 being the most recent game to get a perfect score. Back before they redesigned the magazine, games got perfect ratings often. Super Monkey Ball, Super Smash Bros. Melee, Pikmin and Rogue Squadron II all got perfect scores, which I would call absurd. However, I would hardly call them biased anymore, outside of the fact that they are clearly Nintendo fans. No longer do they whore out reviews like they used to. I mean, look at Mario Kart DS - arguably the best DS game, and they only gave it a 9.0. They are being very strict about what gets great ratings lately.

And I hope you don't say something like "that doesn't belong here", since this is, after all, the review topic of Animal Crossing: Wild World.

hate to say it but : I hated this game:

it was nothing more then a port of the gamecube version if you ask me...

maybe once i get the thing to take the DS online i will like it more, but for a stand alone single person game... Bleh...

then again Mario 2 partners in time is sucking up all my time and i really didnt get it half a chance ... only played Animal crossing for 20 mins before tossing it back in the gamefly thingie

I went to 6 diffrent towns yesterday and several of them had a fishing tournament that morning. But there was not one in my town. Why???? I thought stuff like that was the same for everyone?

How many diffrent types of fruit trees are there? I got Apple, Orange, and Pear so far.

Peaches, cherries, and...those are all I remember at the moment.

Oh, wait! Coconuts! Check your beaches!

NO CHRISTMAS? WTF?

I am pissed. Jingle fucking rocked, and so did the Christmas stuff. I loved having by room decorated for XMAS!

Wait, WHAT?!

That's fucking lame. I just bought a medium-sized tree today for my house.

Actually, there IS a lost and found. You have to go talk to Booker at the gates.

After going to (or calling) Target, Best Buy, Toys R Us, Circuit City, and two Gamestops...I finally found my copy at "The Exchange" (regional store).

Now, if I just had something to play it with...hmm...
