 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

Errr lol I wonder what made it TV MA? I watched it and it seemed as MA as about any anime with fan service or violence. Then again I never check ratings so...
They're going back and changing it to the unedited version which supposedly will earn a TV MA rating.

Pretty sure that's not the case.  I'm pretty sure we're talking broadcast version vs. dvd/bluray version.  Generally, MA shows don't sell as well as 14, or PG shows (I understand), so they probably thought they would get more sales selling the broadcast version, instead of the dvd/bluray version, and I bet a bunch of fans emailed them asking them to instead give us the uncut version.

I don't think it was their intention to release a censored version since they don't control what materials are given to them by Japanese companies for home release. I assume they thought that the stuff Japan gave them was the uncensored release, so they went ahead with it, not knowing that it was not the case. That then begs the question of why they never checked the materials before sending them to production.

You are correct. It was never their intention to release the broadcast version. As for why they never checked the materials, who knows.

Thankfully, Funimation has done the right thing and recalled Sankarea.

Here's two codes for Crunchyroll 48 Hour All Access

G6A79UDRZN       Expires Nov 13, 2013
E35M67EAEVT     Expires Sep 14, 2014

All I know is if you ordered Sankarea from Rightstuf.com you'll receive the uncensored version when it releases AND they let you keep the TV14 version .

Updated with the Rightsuf sale this week. Not terrible, but not great either. I'd suggest holding out unless there i something you are absolutely dying for. Since it includes preorders I may go with Humanity has Declined.

And I have (3?) Crunchyroll passes available if anybody wants one. Just pm me and I can give them to you if you need one!

I am going to pre-order the Pet Girl of Sakurasou from this sale, but I am looking for something else to reach free shipping at $49. Can someone recommend something that is a good price? I am leaning toward Elfen Lied, however I have seen it already, so I am not set on getting it right now. How was Humanity has Declined?

What I always do on any sites that will do free shipping is tack on a future pre-order. Right Stuf will ship a part of order when it is/becomes available regardless of what shipping option you choose. Just pre-order something like Akira (hits next month) then make sure to cancel before the pre-order ships (although Akira is totally worth it).

EDIT: Actually come to think of it... I forgot on how Right Stuf ships a ton of anime like a month or more before it's release date. Akira may not actually be a good idea... just thinking off the top of my head, I know Aniplex USA is milking the hell out of Sword Art Online. Just pre-order the last part (likely in 2014 territory with that one) then make sure to cancel it before you receive that overpriced mess.

Thanks for this! I've been meaning to watch Casshern since I saw it on toonami. Also picking up darker than black.

Not a bad idea. If I can't decide on anything, I may give it a shot.

If you don't visit the FYE/Suncoast thread, they have some good deals up.

FYE has a 20% off New/30% off Used sale going on with purchases of $30 or more. Use code AFYE1013.

Suncoast/FYE has an in-store coupon (that is over in the FYE thread) that gives 25% off your entire purchase, which does stack with whatever used deal is going on in-store.

Thanks!  Hmmm...what to do with the first season of Ah! My Goddess from a price standpoint - is their a better price on a collection than for it then there is for the volumes separately (even though some of them are cheap at Hastings)?

Not really since all the boxsets are out of print. Perhaps FUNi may pick up Season 1.
That's what it is then. Thanks!

I'll just monitor the volumes and hope that 3 through 6 either show up on Hastings or Amazon with FSSS or drop a bit more (most notably 6). The FYE sale price, if you will, isn't doing it for me yet.

What was the cheapest anyone ever spotted Another and Dusk Maiden of Amnesia for? Lowest I've seen them go was around $35-$40 for each, on Blu-Ray. I'm thinking of picking them up at some point, but kind of hoping that there was a precedent for them dropping lower in price.

I think they were a bit lower during one of the DD sales, but you had to buy 3 titles, and they ended up on the lower side of $30 per blu.

RightStuf might (and I emphasize MIGHT) have it cheaper during their Christmas sales, but the cheapest you are likely to get it is if your local FYE/Suncoast has it and use their sales.

Other than that, you have to hope for a fluky eBay auction or something similar.

Does anyone know if Gurren Lagaan complete collection anime legends come in a clear DVD case? Am unsure if what I'm seeing on eBay is a authentic or bootleg set

That is a legit release. They originally came in black cases but as Bandai got more and more bankrupt they used clear cases as well.

Generally the number of discs, the region number, and whether it has chinese subtitles on it are an indicator of a legit release (3 discs for a 26 episode series (on dvd), region 0, chinese subtitles (almost all legit releases with them say MANDARIN) are all signs that it's bootleg)

Got lucky and was able to snag a copy of Gundam 08th MS Team for $47 bucks on Amazon. Now of only people would sell the people the original series at a reasonable price.

A while back, I managed to get a copy from gohasting for maybe half that. Now I just have to finish my zeta gundam set. The last volume is around a $100 on amazon. Finding a deal on the last chapter of Evangelion Platinum is also pretty hard.

I haven't even bothered to try for the original Gundam series. That I might have to wait for a reprint.

Not sure if this has been posted earlier, but right stuf got more stock of some bandai titles. They tweeted about it a few days ago. Might want to check their site if you've been looking for something.

Funny that you mentioned that Gundam set. I just picked it up recently from my local used store for $15. Really didn't think that much of it though. >.>

Picked up Haruhi Season 2. If only they discoubted any of the sets just a little. Some of them are cheaper on eBay.

Also, did not know somebody was re-releasing Monster Rancher on DVD. Woo!
