 Anime Steals and Deals

**It is highly recommended you check the latest posts in this thread as they will often have the most up to date deals. I will attempt to reflect these sales in the OP, but always check the latest posts.**

Rightstuf

Rightstuf runs studio sales every week, sometimes even twice a week. These range from anime, manga, and even artbooks. Prices are decent, and Rightstuf has amazing customer service. I highly recommend them for that alone.

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/main/

You can save an additional 10% off a majority of their items (Including preorders) by buying their Got Anime membership

http://www.rightstuf.com/rssite/action/store/item/Item?ItemName=gotanime1

Amazon

Amazon tends to offer lower everyday prices on their anime, and often run sales on Funimation items routinely. Keep track on your favorites or check your daily deal's for a possible 5% off of some based off your history on Amazon.

(Also, I'd also recommend to check out Amazon's top 100 deals in Anime Bluray/DVD as they tend to show what's popular, or what is on sale.)

DVDPlanet / Deep Discount

Known by many for their bad customer service, they often make up for it with their lower prices on a lot of their items. This and they routinely run sales specifically for anime.

http://www.dvdplanet.com/Pages/Search/Category.aspx?ec=42000

http://www.deepdiscount.com/index.cfm

I highly suggest when you order from them to only order in stock items, and not ones that are backordered. Save yourself the displeasure of having to deal with the headaches. And patience is a must with these sites.

Cheapassgamer

Maybe you will find something here on our own forums! We have a thread dedicated specifically to Anime and Manga for sale from fellow Cags.

Ouch you watched Casshern Sins? I feel for you...show was crap. Everyone talked about the visuals like they were the second coming, but really, it didn't do anything for me.
Yeah, I got bored with it throughout, though. The episodes kept dragging, felt like nothing was ever being accomplished. I feel if I start an anime, I have to finish it no matter what. I thought the overall story was good, just could have been told better.

Just finished Elfen Lied. Pretty good. It's something I'd re-watch down the line. Next up; Claymore.

Nice! just finished Haganai s1 not too long ago and was wondering when Next! was going to get announced. Looking forward to it :D

season 2 is soooooo much better. i enjoyed season 1 but season 2 was 10x better imo
Agreed. I really want season 3. I'm sure it popular enough for them to make one, but there's not enough source material.

Edit: Granted, the first half of S1 was just introducing characters, and the second half is Japanese high school cliche locations.

S2 ended on a cliffhanger note, and the light novels haven't even finished yet, so there's still some content to be seen. It's just a matter of waiting.

On a side note, Katsucon was kind of a bust as expected. This was my first one plus it was Katsucon's 20th anniversary and it still was just... bleh. On Wednesday following in Thursday we had about a half foot of snow hit. When the con started on Friday, there weren't too many people, guessing because maybe the snow made them hold off or they all worked. Saturday everything became packed and most of the crowd followed into Sunday too. On the plus side... they actually had a Guidebook schedule!

Panel wise, the quality of all of the ones I went to were horrible. One was just basically talking with no presentation or clips. A few other panels were just embarrassingly bad or were too long or just fans ranting nonsense about a subject/series. Four other panels my friends were interested in were cancelled but you had to wait in a line first and past the start of the initial panel to finally be told it was cancelled. To note, if you noticed, I had almost no panels that I was interested in. Although, I did watch two episodes of the Psycho Pass dub. It was pretty good.

Industry panels, there was Funimation & Aniplex USA that I know of. Funimation only announced one thing and it was some anime that aired originally in 2010. Nobody knew what it was. They also announced that Attack on Titan's dub would be premiering at Anime Boston. Aniplex USA announced more overpriced LEs along with some DVD sets. Surprisely they were more "into it" than Funimation. My friend I was with won a SAO card mat with a bunch of cards. Ironically, me and my friends all hate SAO. She is hoping it will sell well on eBay.

The game room had an odd rule about not bringing in bags and it wasn't even too big of a room to begin with (Not to mention that all of the controllers were wired and secured with the consoles in cases). They had some cool Pachinko machines such as a Evangelion, Ramna, and even a Trigun one. They looked cool but I never got around to playing them. The dealer's room surprised me on how big it ended up being but I saw nothing worth buying.

To conclude, this more or less confirmed to me that Katsucon isn't all that great. One giant negative for me was that I'm in my final semester with five classes so I was dead tired throughout the con due to me rushing to get all of my homework done. On top of that, I know what it feels like to be a shadow to someone because I ran out of things that I wanted to go to rather quickly. I was told constantly that this Katsucon was an "off" one but I doubt I'll end up going back next year. All it really did was confirm my suspicions that I had about it.

I have an opinion question for those of you that have seen the Blue Exorcist movie (or even just the series).  Ignoring all of the extras and such, is the movie alone worth $32 for the Blu Ray?

I guess the UK listing came up? I saw it and while it's a good movie, it's not $32 good. It's also set before the series went non canon so it's still worth watching. I'd say $20 or less is the best price for it.

Yeah, it's only 1 main light novel volume right now that they haven't adapted and that's because it came out after S2. Only a few of the things from S2 are answered and reveals that 2 of the main characters have
sisters(hint- one of them is on the student council shown in S2 & is hated by her half-sister). It also reveals Yozora's family problems.
There is also a side volume that is a bunch of side stories placed before S1(mostly involving Sena & Kodaka's parents), including how similar Sena's mom & Kobato are during their teens. So for now, there's not enough material for a complete season run yet.

But it's also up in the air on another season due to S2's sales bombing in Japan.

As for S2 getting a physical release here, that's up to Funimation. They haven't announced a license for home video version yet.

Uh, DNukem170 posted a release schedule that lists S2 as releasing in May... :???:

New blurays came in today. Surprise that the OVA was included with Love, Election and Chocolate.

Anything funimation, it's worth it to wait for Amazon, as long as you don't care about the LE.  DVD Planet/DDD also seem to have decent deals on Sentai/Section23 stuff.  Other stuff seems a lot more hit and miss, and RS is generally the best once studio sales come in.

What's everyone's thoughts on Jormungand? I admit it was the Norse mythology reference that first interested me, but the show actually looks really cool. I'd wait for a cheaper re-release, of course, but is that one that's worth watching out for?

Got DBZ season 2 in the mail today, these covers that line up with each other are actually really neat. Nice to see that Season 4 is scheduled for May, would like to see the series to completion on Blu Ray

Yes, very interesting show. Some folks compared it to Black Lagoon, but I think Black Lagoon is better. Similar style though I suppose.

I am watching it on funimation elite and through the first 12 eps it's decent. I think the comparisons to black lagoon are fair, but at the same time everything is just a bit inferior. The sound track even sounds like a bit of a knock off of black lagoon... that doesn't mean that the bad rap songs dont' get stuck in your head since they are used in previews though :p

I think the big reason jormungand feels inferior though is that none of the characters really feel like badasses. Without really going into details... any character that approaches being a bad ass for the good guys then either has some stupid character trait for comedic effect or has their skills belittled... it makes it feel more like they are slightly above average and everyone they meet just sucks instead of them being badasses *shrugs*

The delay is probably Gainax (or some other Japanese company with a share in the rights) telling FUNi to delay it. Has it come out in Japan yet?

It was supposed to be released this month, but Funimation themselves delayed it for a theatrical run.
Even though the theatrical run was dub-only. (sneers in disdain) I could have gone and seen it in theaters if it had been run with subtitles. Instead I have to wait until they finally get around to the disc release. Hopefully the theatrical release got them the attention and exposure they wanted, but it's still a bit annoying for fans like me who were going to buy the discs anyway.

I'm slightly miffed over the upcoming Shiki SAVE set release. I just got my copies of Shiki volumes 1 and 2, and they weren't cheap to acquire. The much more modest popularity of that series had me questioning the possibility of a SAVE set, so I went ahead and got the original sets in case they became scarce. If I had waited another couple months I would have been able to get a nice, affordable SAVE set with BluRay and DVD.

I can't say I regret it. The original sets are quite nice, and it is a series that I thoroughly enjoyed. But it is typical of Funimation's approach to early/late releases. (see also the original Blu-Ray sets for Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood)

Yeah, I was wondering what was going to happen to Shiki, as Funimation notified retailers last month the Part 1 & 2 sets were going out-of-print. Kinda figured they're release a regular "complete series" set before shifting it to the S.A.V.E. line. Guessing the license is getting ready to lapse if they're doing it this soon.

The cheaper re-releases is the main reason I've still yet to buy certain series like Haganai, High School DxD & "Is This a Zombie?". Because I know that they're eventually just do repacks of the first 2 seasons down the line like they've done with Black Lagoon, Sekirei and Spice & Wolf. Kinda expecting them to announce a Heaven's Lost Property S1 & 2 set sometime this year too, as that license for S1 has got to be expiring soon.

Amazon cancelled my multi-region Sony player saying that they weren't going to be able to get any more in.

At least they managed to magically find some "used" ones to sell under Warehouse Deals for twice the price >_>

What's the difference between all the three Eden of the East Blu's? I'm looking to pick it up. There's the Blu/DVD combo, there's on just on Blu, and then there's a Blu Classic. Why did they release three sets?

Anyone ordered robotics notes $19 regular edition and got shipped status at amazon? I ordered one last saturday and estimated delivery day was tomorrow, but it wasn't shipped. I talked to amazon and they had to delay my copy until march 4th so they upgrade me to one day shipping and refund me 100%. Its only $19 blu ray, but i'm getting it for free. I love amazon customer service.

Anyone with Got Anime? know how long it usually takes right stuf to update your account? I placed my order 4 days ago but my membership still isn't showing as active on the gotanime site.  Is it better to call right stuf CS or email them?

The show was originally released DVD-only (which, IMO, is the best packaging for it for all the releases so I am keeping my Blu-rays of both series and movies in it), but it's great success allowed them to release it on Blu-ray as well. The combo pack was released to match the movies and the Anime Classics release is normal re-pricing. The discs themselves have no difference between them.

It took me about a week for it to go through. No regrets at all though! I am enjoying the discount and combined with no tax in CA, it beats Amazon most of the time unless I want its something I want fast. I love the heavy packaging RS uses and I have yet to have any issues with them.

yea I saw that. the only thing that bugs me is it is very limited and the odds arent high you'd be able to see it so I wanted to watch it on blu ray.

to make sure you do understand there are three seperate eden of the east dvds/ blu ray sets to buy. to own the whole series you'll need to buy 3 different items. at least thats how it was a year or two ago. theres the series part 1 and 2 I think and then I think there is a movie. Im not sure if any of these 3 sets have duplicate rereleases or not.

It should be the complete series--of which there are two versions, that I know of--and two movies that complete the story--each released individually.

Good to know it takes about a week. I'll wait until early next week before I call them. I'm just getting impatient as I'm ready to pull the trigger on an order. Thanks for the reply.

I'm fairly certain the DVD and Blu-ray versions were released at the same time, only separately.

If it's any consolation, 3.33 is pretty terrible. Beautifully animated, but man, did they ever destroy my enthusiasm for the rest of the rebuild with that film.
