Another game almost unplayable due to forced Widescreen
So, I'm supposed to buy a new TV in order to truly enjoy a $60 game? Well, that certainly makes a ton of sense!
no, of course not, but to FULLY enjoy a $400 next-gen system you may wanna think about buying the cheapest HDTV widescreen you can find or just deal with it

the solution to your problem is to get a HDTV and there is no excuse not to if you continue to spend $60 on games...
The bulk of 360 games don't have this problem.
Exactly. You have a right to be upset about the text being unreadable on your TV. I would be too. When the "bulk" of 360 games don't have this problem, though, maybe you should take 3 minutes to find out if the game you're interested in buying has this problem or not.
I don't know, a 30inch HDTV is kind of a waste. It's still pricey to get one that's suitable for a living room.
I'll agree with that, but a small one for an apartment or a bedroom is very affordable.

At this point where HDTVs are reasonably priced this is just useless whining. If you're willing to spend $400 on a console, it isnt unreasonable for you to spend the same on a TV.

probably bound to happen, I mean its like the upgrade from vcr to dvd players, even though thats not a good comparsion since tvs are hell of alot more expensive, I'm gonna wait till the hd tvs are 100-150$ cheaper then consider a 26-30 inch for my room, it doesnt make any sence for me to drop that much cash on a tv for myself thats better than the tv in the family room.
To me it's like someone complaining that some game has color-based puzzles and is unplayable on a black and white TV.
QFT. :D

Why is it automatically assumed that, if someone can afford one thing, they can afford another? If I buy a car, that means I can also afford a truck?

If you buy a car, you better be able to afford the Insurance and Gas. And if you got the 360 for free, that's even less reason for your to complain about shelling out for an HDTV. If HDTVs still cost $1000 i'd understand your complaint, but they are reasonably priced nowadays and serve more than one purpose.

I can read the text on Enchanted Arms just fine on my 30 inch flatscreen and my eye sight is complete shit. Hell, most important dialogue is spoken anyway.

For someone with "awesome sight", it should be no problem.

I don't use a HDTV, and I haven't had issues with Enchanted Arms either. The benefits of even a $10 VGA cable are universal, not just "for one game." We are "Cheap Ass" Gamers afterall, you just take it to the extreme I suppose.
According to USATODAY.com, 60% of 360 owners have HDTV's. Guess I was wrong. Eh, whatever. The POINT of this whole thread is that developers should make their games resonably accessible to EVERY 360 owner, not just the ones who have the best high-end equipment.
/thread?

either way I'll bet you by 2008 everyone will have an hdtv unless there freaking poor. anyways maybe adjust the settings on your screen? boost up the sharpness? contrast?
Not so, since I traded in my entire DVD and Xbox library in order to afford the 360 to begin with, and I don't buy more than 1 game a month.
If you had proposed doing that before the Xbox 360 purchase, I would have advised against it.

Microsoft would like every game to be fully playable on all supported displays but that just isn't going to happen. Publishers are going to focus on the people most likely to give them their money. This tends to be those who buy the 360 and a decent display without great personal sacrifice. Those people are in the best position to buy undiscounted software, so the industry is going to focus on them and everything else becomes a matter of what leeway there is in the schedule and budget.

Gears of War and other games expected to be system sellers are exceptions because of their need for universality. Even this consideration is going to fall by the wayside over time as the percentage of Xbox 360 owners using 720p or better displays is only going to increase. More new owners will be HD equipped as prices come down and existing owners will upgrade. By the end of the Xbox 360's life cycle the portion of its users using SDTV displays will be a very small minority.

I'd seek a middle ground. Get a 720p display that supports VGA or DVI. There are 37" inch units for around $900 now that make both a great gaming display and a kick-ass PC monitor. This time next year they could drop by as much as a third in price.

its defiantly not hard to get a HDTV these days. sure its not easy to get a top of the line plasma or DLP, but you can go for something smaller. i got a 30" CRT, and (altho kinda small) looks great. i paid $800 for it (tho now you might be able to get it for around $600 or less. oh, and I'm not rich either...actually far from it. i just happened to you know....pay for it monthly until its paid off. i guess if someones credit is shit, its not going to help them tho.

I'm hopeing there will be some good sales on hdtvs around christmas, Im planning to pick up a Wii as well and I would really like to get a quality picture. I'm gonna wait and see but I think the tv I have lasting me 10+ years and its about time to upgrade hehe.

Like I said before, if you have a computer monitor than you can play in HD for $13. There is absolutely no excuse to not do this. The people saying stop being a cheap ass (on Cheap Ass Gamer no less) and buy a $800 TV are crazy, but saying stop complaining and buy a $13 cable is not!

I am pretty sure someone earlier brought up that if he wanted to play on pc he would be a pc gamer. I HATE doing any gaming on the pc. It is uncomfortable and fuck I have a console, recliner, and a TV. This message is to all those fucking morons that think that anyone can just afford an hdtv. I have a $500 car payment and I pay for college cash. If I want to buy a game I have to be real fucking thrifty and somewhat shady.

while i do agree with you about not everyone having enough expendable income, its not our fault you have a $500 car payment.

holy shit.

He might have meant car payment + insurance + gas inclusive. Being a college male, that'd shoot your insurance to the 200-300 dollar range I believe, which is nuts to begin with. Then prolly 150 or so for the payment itself....

'Course I'm sure Mr Wahoo can tell us himself.

You don't have a real life do you. I don't want to offend, but seriously, I am not blaming anyone for my car payment. I need a reliable car for my schooling, internships, and work. If it means that I have to bite the bullet and work more I will. It is my choice. It is lame that I will be forced to buy a fucking hdtv just to read some fucking text.

sounds as though you just need a nap.

i beleive i do have a real life, as real as they get. you do not need to insult people to get your pointy accross.

forgive me if i insulted you, i didnt mean too. my point was your priorty lies in your car instead of your tv, and thats fine with me.

I play my 360 and ps2 via a tv tuner in my computer. Is it better if I'm playing it directly with a vga cable to the monitor? Just wondering because I get really bad picture quality and blurriness(probably due to my 12ms refresh rate).

I apologize. I pay that much so I don't have to pay for my car for 2 extra just because of interest.
I nap 5 hrs a night. I work 40+ hrs a week, school full time, and an internship 16 hrs a week. I don't remember sleeping a full 8 hrs in the last 2 years.
On top of that my other car died 4 months ago and that is why I have an ugly car payment.
Again I apologize for my statement. It is the stress and coffee

damn, $74 for insurance on a car you are still paying for?...what state are you in cause that is damn cheap! i assume you have full coverage since you are still making payments?

Sucks, they outta put in some tiny fine print on the box that the games only support widescreen.
Sucks, they outta put in some tiny fine print on the box that the games only support widescreen.
EXACTLY. What I was also going to say. If the game is best at WideScreen, they should have made it obvious.

It's like releasing a movie only on UMD's and forcing everybody to buy PSP just to watch it ...
Sucks, they outta put in some tiny fine print on the box that the games only support widescreen.
I have played this on a 32 inch flat screen non HD TV and the n got a 34" sony Widescreen HDTV......aside from the major quality of picture difference.....I had no problem viewing anything on my "old" TV. Just bad luck it sounds like to me

Thanks for the heads-up, I just took back my new HDTV because it sucked (and sold my old one last weekend), so I'm on standard def. for the forseeable future...at least until Sharp works out the manufacturing flaws in their new models.

Will probably just pass on any new 360 games period until I get another one.
/plays the same tune

Good thing I was talking about the character and not the actor. For example, Hugh Laurie.
What? A British guy playing an Australian lizard? No..just...no...pay attention to the british slang in the commericals.

the gecko was given an upper-class British accent because it would be unexpected, according to The Martin Agency's Steve Bassett
The gamer shouldnt have to change for the game, rather game developers should make the game around the gamer.
You obviously don't know alot about M$oft...
