Any bad experiences at EB in Brentwood Mall (Burnaby,BC)? How about other EB stores?

Hi guys!

This is going to be about your good and/or bad experiences at EB store in Brentwood Mall, but any feedback regarding EB Games stores in Canada is welcomed ! Why am I doing this ?! Because for no reason (at least IMO) I got this really bad experience with that particular store and I'm suspecting that I might not be the only one ...

Have you ever been lied about the tiv? Has anyone had any issues trading in games that were still in plastic wrap (I'm not talking about dozens, but 1, 2, 3 at most) ? Have you been refused or got hard time trying to do a trade ? If so, what were the reasons ? Have you encountered any rude/disrespectful attitude from EB associates ? Have you raised your concerns to their head office or district manager ? Any possitive experiences from that or just time wasted ?
Again any feedback is welcomed !

TIA

Hmm...

Is this bad experiance recent?
The store manager of Brentwood is Shawn. He used to be the store manager at the Pitt Meadow store when it opend. After a year or so, he transfered to Brentwood and Jeff came to Pitt Meadows. Jeff now works at the New West Store. What happened at Brentwood? I'd love to hear your stories! Maybe go talk to Shawn? He seems to be decent.

I usually only deal with the two stores that are relatively close to my home, and they are always very nice to me since I'm a regular and I used to work there.

I can't say I've had any bad experiences recently, though I haven't been out to Brentwood anytime recently.

I will say one thing about Oakridge though. It's not bad, it's just creepy IMO. Lately the girls they've hired there always give me this line whenever I walk in and buy a random used game:
"Oh, I didn't know we had ____. If I knew we had ____ I would have grabbed it myself. It's a really great game/deal".

Naturally there's some variation in there, but I've heard that same spiel like 6 times now  I can only guess that they have no idea what I'm buying and they trying to be friendly, but I just find it creepy now. The line did kinda work the first time I suppose though

i'm in the burlington, ontario area and we've got 5 eb's within a 20 min drive of my house. i usually hit up the stores at burlington mall or brant street (for anyone in the area). by far, the nicest staff in an eb i've ever met. both stores are full of wicked nice people.

not entirely related, but someone in ontario may find it helpful.

theres this one super douche that never gives trade in values over the phone. hes always the 1st guy i call just to annoy him.

Name???

Never been lied to about TIVs. The only issue I've had with shrinkwrapped games is that they ask me to open them before accepting a trade (perfectly understandable since anyone could give them an empty box that they shrinkwrapped themselves). I've always asked them to check the TIV before I break it open.

Theres one girl at the Morningside Ebgames in Scarborough named Karen or something like that who is really nice and everything but sometimes she can be a total bitch about trade in promotions they are running.

Like the day before Resistnace 2 was released i went in to trade 2 games +9.99 to just get the preorder for it because i didnt want TIVs to drop the next day or anything and she down right refused to give me.

I just left the store and went to the nice guys at the Scarborough towncentre location and he did it for me without problems.

The only bad experience I had was with this girl working there. I asked for a product, and she looked at me like I was Bubblegum poppin! I was so embarassed. I think she was having bad day, or you know, felt jealous.....I did nothing to this girl

She: I don't know the price
ME: Well, can you go look for it?

We left running. What a bitch.

I have constant bad experience tho. The stores always stinks of rotten carpet

Never had a bad experience at Brentwood or Metrotown. I don't visit Brentwood much at all though. Just a week or two ago to do the Trade 2 for Mirror's Edge.

The EB Games in rosemere Is always packed on weekends And its so small.i feel like im in a can of sardines.

The Gamestop in the Mall Is big and there is less people and the employees are helpful.Plus they have A Great PS1 Selection

While I've never had an issue with Brentwood, I do have an issue with the manager there (Shawn)'s fiance (Colleen) who manages Lougheed Mall EB. I don't hide the fact that I'm a dealer, in fact most EB managers know me well and encourage me to do business with them as it boosts their store numbers... she on the other hand outright refuses my business. While I can understand if she wants to restrict me from abusing promotions or stocking up on discount items, when her staff refuses to sell me an AV cable out of fear for their jobs I feel a line has been crossed. I encourage others to not shop at her store now... in the event you need to go to EB, ANY of the other locations would serve you better.

Well my friend goes there alot and when he told the manager that at the Metrotown branch he had to wait an hour to buy TF2 the manager gave him BioShock for $15 (that was before bioshock got cheap)

I completely refuse to goto EBGames/GameStop anymore. Whenever I've gone I've always gotten rotten service except for at one store and it has to be the person I assume to be the manager helping me. It's not like I'm asking for anything weird even when I get shit service too. I get my game from the shelf, bring it to the till, and 99% of the time the person at the till gives me dirty looks for some reason, speak rudely to me, and they don't even say thanks or smile even. I just get the feeling that my business isn't appreciated and that I'm bothering them. I get that retail sucks sometimes and you just want to move customers in and out as fast as possible so I let it slide. I work in retail too so I know the feeling.

The thing that makes me never want to go back now though happened during Christmas. I don't know what their return policy is on accessories so maybe this is normal but I had bought some Xbox360 stuff for a friend of mine for Christmas and turns out that that day when he was out shopping too he bought the same thing for himself already so I went to return it the next day. It was a Gears of War 2 faceplate and skin. Apparently they don't give cash back and only instore credit on unopened accessories. Here's what happened.

I went up to the till and wait for the person to acknowledge I'm there. There's a girl working there at the till. She just stares at me. Doesn't say anything to me. So I politely said, "I bought this yesterday but need to return it. It was supposed to be a gift but he bought the same thing for himself yesterday. Here's my reciept."
Bitch at the till looks at the reciept and doesn't say anything and starts to do the return like normal. Says I'll be getting this much back. So I give her my debit card since that was how I paid for it and she starts giving me attitude.
Her (In bitch voice that makes it seem like I just gave her a used tissue): "Why are you giving me this?"
Me: "So I can get my money back... That's how I paid for it... (confused)"
*shoves card back at me*
Her: "Store credit only."
*begins to put credit on a edge card*
Me: "I just bought it yesterday and its unopened. I can't just get my money back?"
Her: "No. I can only give store credit. Company policy."
*gives me edge card*
Her: "Anything else?"
Me: "No... Thanks?"
*walks out of store and has not returned since*

I now have no problem going to BestBuy and Futureshop to buy my games and stuff I can't get there I get from amazon.ca. I've done returns on accessories before and even on unopened games and gotten full refunds in cash or debit. Maybe they've changed policy since but she was just plain rude. I work retail too and I know there are asshole customers that you don't want to deal with but you're still supposed to smile like a jackass when you're helping them. Even when you have to return something otherwise they might not come back to spend money.

I don't really have a problem with EB, ever since I've stopped going to the one at St. Vital Centre.

Last few times I went there a couple years back the people working were pretty lazy, causing mass lineups because they were taking cellphone pics of each other instead of actually letting people buy shit.

My local EB has actually been absolutely awesome... when I purchased an Arcade 360, i'd paid $269 (that's what they were going for). 3 weeks later, the price drop happened.

I went back, and even though the Canadian policy is they will only price match within two weeks, the manager said to go ahead, because 3 weeks was still reasonable, so I got reimbursed.

Also never had problems returning anything that didn't work, they've actually let me trade in games without manuals, without original cases... They're also all really kind people.

I've had some Issues with the Coquitlam Center and Lougheed locations.
At the Coquitlam Center EB, I had purchased a Used PSP, supposedly with all the applicable accessories. Unfortunately when I inspected the Package further, I noticed No charger and no headphones. not even 10 minutes after the transaction I opted to return it. I paid nearly full price for a used handheld, so of course I'd be choked to find missing components. The attitude I got from the person afterwards was unbelievable, they refused to return the item, and offered me Less than what I had paid, in store credit only. I swallowed it that time and bought the charger and headphones elsewhere. Last time i bought anything from that location.

The last few times I purchased some things from the Lougheed location, there was some Blond bitch with a feather tattoo behind her ear. Acting all inconvenienced when I wanted to purchase a game... She waddled her Huge ass and stubby legs up a short ladder, grabbed my game, and threw it on the floor. I was mentioning that I had hoped she wasn't expecting me to pay for that copy. As she made her way to the back room one of the other employees picked it up and rang it through, the whole Time I was shaking my head. I dunno, but she's always in a shitty mood, and very arrogant.

The manager at Lougheed Mall is horrible. End of story.

I completely agree with Brian (Game Deals). In fact, the manager there is the REASON I actually shop at game deals as frequently as I can (when I'm not importing stuff thanks to Goomba). I generally forget to bust open a game and take a good look at it/play it when I buy it... There's been a few times where my idiocracy has landed me with the wrong game or even a busted one that I can't return. Granted, I just assume the employees know what they're doing. Also, when I buy a knew game, I just kind of expect to actually be given the right game because I'm often in a rush. Sure, it's my fault for not looking, but seriously... I shouldn't have to.

The lougheed location is the only one where I consistently have problems. I have never ONCE gotten acceptable service. Well, there used to be this one long haired hippe looking dude who was awesome -- but that was it.

I've probably wasted an entire games worth of gas on that cursed place.

Lets list a few:

Bought a Rock Band 2 Stratocaster -- they gave me a drum kit (with a clearly drum labelled wireless adapter) adapter. They would not return it. I had to call EA who thankfully just sent me a knew one.

Bought Syphon Filter: Logan's Shadow -- Received Dark Mirror (Now I got a mix-matched box :( ); I didn't have my PSP that week, so I was gonna crack it open when I got it. Totally forgot to check it.

Bought DMC4: Special Edition and received 3 discs of the anime series. They were giving me trouble returning it for a full refund. I exchanged it at the Coquitlam Centre EB.

The manager at Lougheed has a very snotty attitude which is totally off-putting. I waited outside for like an hour last year for a door crasher special (MGS4: Special Edition) and they received absolutely none (all the stock went to Coquitlam Centre -- and I wasn't about to pay the same price for the regular game). When I asked, she very menacingly told me that they have no stock of it and that I deserve it for cheating on what the door crasher was. Basically, she didn't like that I knew what it was. She also opened her store like a half hour late and I was just watching her through the glass.

Should I continue?

In Newmarket ON. - This happened twice. But both times the employees were apologetic.

I take a used game to the front, and they cannot find the disc. Yup, TWICE within a couple months it happened.

I usually go to the one in Aurora ON. they are good people.

There was one time I was with a friend in an EB in Richmond Hill ON. and he was buying a PS3 game and they asked if he wanted the $2 protection. I told him, "Don't bother, you can't scratch PS3 games." The woman (in her late 30's, early 40's) pipes up and says pretty loud "YOU WANNA BET? I HAD A KID COME IN HERE WITH A PS3 GAME AND IT WAS ALL SCRATCHED TO HELL!"
... all I could think was, "Geez lady, what the heck..." I wasn't even talking to her.
