Hi fellow Cheap-Assers,

My boyfriend is planning on purchasing a 42" Plasma screen from Buy.com (model Panasonic TH-42PHD8UK in case any one is interested)....apparently this model is not in Brick and Morter stores nor at Amazon (I have no idea why).

Buy.com does have free shipping, but I was wondering if there are any 10% off codes or such flying about....if I could save him the $230.....maybe he'd buy me a PSP or something :)

Seriously...any suggestions are appreciated!

Thanks

Dan

There was a 6% off any purchase coupon, but I think that just expired on 10/31. Buy.com has new coupons every couple of weeks. I'd hold off until then.

Just a word of warning.. although they do get your product to you, they've started taking their own sweet time accomplishing that. The last few times I've ordered from them its been a 1-3 week delay to even ship out.

Thanks for the warning.

Luckily he's in no rush....yesterday was his birthday, and he just got a bonus from work....and he has been wanting this for a year....so he doesn't mind if it take a month before he gets it.

It would be great if buy.com put out one of those % off deals soon though--even if they limit how much they would take off, it would still be cool.

Thanks for all the replies so far

Just a note, this is SOLD OUT on Buy.com

Tell him to keep looking...what is his budget for a TV? I know CostCo has some good deals on Plasma's.

I know OneCall.com has good deals also. Or, check Best Buy around Black Friday (or, if he wants an OPEN BOX one, they are cheap there)

Yeah--he seems to think they will be back in stock soon--not sure if he looked into it. Its apparently a NEW model, not an old/discountinued one.

Thanks for the heads up though!!

Buy.com's % off coupons tend to have a cap on them so you need to be aware. I think max. discount on the 10% is usually $25.

*edit* Ok, looked over my old coupons and sadly they are linked so you cant see the max. $ off allowed after the expiration. IIRC its $25 on the 10%. Somebody correct me if Im off.

The only new coupon I could come up with was a free shipping one, but it is only valid on items under 20 lbs. which I doubt is what you're looking for. I'll post back if I find any more. I would also be eternally greatful if you bought your TV through my link to buy.com in my signature, that would be so awesome!

I would say try your local brick and mortar stores. Plasma TVs seem to have fallen hard in the last two weeks or so. You may be able to get as good of a deal in person. I was looking at a Plasma but bought a Phillips 37" LCD from Best Buy last week. It was advertised for $2,499, but when I got there, it had gone down to $2,099 due to "market impact." They had Plasmas in the same range. I have the Rewards program as well so I will be getting a good piece of change back in certificates. I despise Best Buy and every time I buy from them I have a horror story (this time is no exception), but they do have good prices and that reward program is hard to beat for big purchases. They may not have the exact model, but may have oe that is close.

I could certainly make use of a free shipping code! Share, share!
Here's the link to it, it was one you had to click through to get on buy.com. It seems to not be working right now, but I'll post the link anyway. http://www.buy.com/retail/coupon.asp?prid=80867772

EDIT: I read the info for the coupon now, it expired yesterday, duh that's why it won't work.
It only works if you got the email (or would get the email) Buy.com now keeps tabs on those things so FW and SD cant kill them with free shipping.
