Any CAG here still wear "chucks?"

I just got a brand new pair today, haven't worn them for a while. Anyways, I got some white chucks with black trims and they look very nice. Any CAGs here still wear these old school shoes? IMO chucks look a lot nicer than those stupid slip-on Vans. Here's a pic of my chucks and how I laced them to make them cooler :lol:

Hell yeah. I'm wearing my hi-top Chucks right now (bright yellow canvas and the rest of the shoe is all black (the laces, the sole, everything - no white to be found). I'm planning to buy several more colors within the next few weeks. I love 'em. They get dirty pretty quickly, but I don't wear mine everyday so it works. I also love the variety of colors - neon yellow, bold orange, hot pink, bright lime green, etc. Also, the comfort...I'm flat-footed, and these bad boys are perfect for me. No arch to poke at my foot and cause discomfort.
 
First off, is Zappos not the bomb or what? I can't believe I ever bought shoes retail before I discovered that place.

Second, those are pretty cool. They look like they'd be hot as hell, are they or are they no warmer than standard sneakers?

They aren't bad. I haven't worn them much this summer, though.
 
I have those black chucks with the white skulls all over the material.. they're in bad condition though, I use 'em to bmx.

You know, thinking about it, the big downsides of Chucks are how freaking cool they get during Winter. I bet those Chucks you have would be nice and comfortable. I might have to grab a pair.

That quilt-esque material isn't TOO thick, is it? Like, does it affect the sizing at all or is it thinner than that?

I stopped wearing them because too many people were wearing them.

I still wear Converse, but their newer stuff.

I have a pair of low top black and whites, grey suede hightops with reversed Converse symbol and a high top American Flag Chucks.

I had a pair of red ones, but I switched for Dunks. Never looked back.

Nice to actually know a lot of people still wear chucks, I thought they were out and Vans were in. I actually hate Vans, they are so ugly.

Probably because they're comfortable as hell. I had a guy try to sell me some when I went shoe shopping last, and I refused to put them on because they looked rediculous. He kept telling me how light they were, it felt like going barefoot, among other great things. My mom ended up buying a pair to wear for work (She works in conditions that require her to wash off her feet daily among other things, shoes are a pain in the ass for her to use there), and she absolutely LOVES them. I shortly tried them on after she kept going on about them and I can see why she loves them. They're stupidly comfortable and light and bouncy feeling. I plan on getting a pair of my own, but possibly in one of the other styles they have now that don't look quite as retarded as the originals. Definately not flattering, but comfortable.

I've got three pairs of chucks, all low top All Stars: these with rainbow laces, some very similar to these with black and pink star laces, and some with a black sole and tip with red sides, with black and red star laces.
That being said, I also have three pairs of vans. I typically prefer my lace up vans (plat style -- have a black and pink, and two black and white pairs), but my size in them tends to change drastically from pair to pair, so I don't buy them very often anymore as I prefer to shoe shop online. My chucks are comfortable but since they're so thin I have to wear thin socks which I don't have a lot of, but I've been wearing them a lot more this summer. I do have my eyes on one other pair of vans, though, but theyre out of stock in my size everywhere.

That's one of the other reasons I don't really like wearing them.

Your foot can feel whatever you step on, allowing your mind to recongnize what it is you're stepping on -- a paperclip, a pepple, a dime -- you feel everything.

The sole is as flat as can be, and when I used to wear those when I was a stockboy, I'd regret it every step I took in the parking lot, with a row of 10,000 carts in tow.
 
Toss in some gel inserts and you'll be fine.

Also, to everyone -- seriously think about buying your next chucks from No Sweat... Like Wilford Brimley said, it's the right thing to do.
 
They are too flimsy for me, I usually go with plain Vans or Adidas sneakers.

Plus they are a copout, they're like uniform shoes for people outside of catholic school.
 
I got my first pair in '91 and had been wearing the brand off and on until I got married. After about 5 years without a pair, I got back into some Chucks last spring. As much as I like them, it is not the same since Nike bought Converse.
 
God I haven't cared about the style of sneakers for over 17 years now unless its deciding what type of shoe to wear with my suits.
 
I do, and I own lots of different colors. Off the top of my head: red, blue, light blue, white, pink, brown, green, and a couple with different designs. I usually get mine at Ross, where their only like $14 a pair.
 
I have the classic black/white high top, 4 years of damage and they are still kicking. With all the shows I go to, the skanking, dancing, and running around they should be in pieces.

Thanks for that link; seriously, anyone foolish enough to think that $42 for Chucks is a steal (those lauding zappos) might as well spend the same amount of money on something ethical.

I do own black/black/ Chucks and a pair of Dr. Martens, so I'm contributing to the perpetuation of slave labor myself. Full disclosure and all, of course.

What is this "Ross" where you get chucks for only $14?! I havn't bought a pair since last year when I worked at Journey's and could use my 40% discount. I would love to get another pair soon.
 
Meijer (regional) has had Chuck Taylor's for, like, $10.

They're cheap pretty much anywhere -- or should be, anyway.

I believe "One Stars" are different than chucks/all-stars. I had a pair of them about 10 years ago. They were made of a sueded material instead of canvas.

Also, I have a question to those who do wear chucks. What size do you wear? I wanted a pair of them so bad last year and when I finally found a pair in my size, 14, they looked goofy as all hell on me. So bascially I am just wondering if any large footed CAGs wear them.

That's what I remember as One Stars.

I wear a 12 and my wife tells me that the chucks I wear look like clown shoes.

I bought a couple new pairs back in 2002 and wore them non-stop since then. Now the sole on the right pair of the black ones is coming apart, and the tread on both is gone.

I was heartbroken when I went shopping for new ones and didn't see "Made In England" on the soles. I still bought a couple of dressier pairs for work off of Overstock.com because I needed some shoes, but geez.. I want some labor-friendly waffle makers for evenings and weekends, y'know?

well, if this is your still, then so be it.....but,....

i've never heard of "Chucks" before, but after seeing the pictures, i know what they are....and god, are they UGLY.....they look uncomfortable and juvenile.....the first thing i thought of when i saw the picture was "oh god, the shoes that all the 10 year old bike rides and punky kids wear to think they are cool)...anyone over 10 that wears those really needs to question their choice of shoe.....they dont even look like they are safe to walk in (id be afraid of snapping my ankle or getting a nail through the sole in those things......
 
I have a pair of pink ones but I don't wear them because the only people I know who wear them are My Chemical Romance fans and Hot Topic kids.

Besides, if I'm going to wear athletics it's for support, comfort, and actual sport...

If I'm going to wear over priced shoes with NO support, made out of flimsy material , it's going to be 5 inch espadrille sandals or 4 inch pumps.
