I'm looking for some nice but cheap speakers for my pc. Doesn't have to be surround sound - I'm used to just 2.1. My current set is on its last leg. I'm looking for the 30-50 price range, though that's not set in stone. If anyone can just mention a quality brand name, that would help too.

logitech usually make good products. also altec lansing(sp?).

I have these speakers (I got them on Clearance at Wal-Mart for $50, but not all WMs had them on clearance), and for the price, they're a really good 5.1 system. They're a little above your range, but if you want 5.1, I'd reccomend them. (I guess one of the marketplace sellers has them for $36.57 new, as well.
I remember I saw them for around $48 shipped at another website back when I was looking for a good deal on them, but I can't remember how I found it or which site it was, sorry.

I have the X-620s (6.1). great speaker set also, just wish I could somehow turn off/on the sub.
thanks for the amazon link. my desk is cluttered and i have not the room for 5 speakers, but logitech had a 2.1 system that got 4.5 star rating (116 votes), so that's the one I got. 37.50+ a hefty 13 bucks shipping, but with the new amazon visa card I got recently - which had nothing to do with this order - i got 30 bucks off my first purchase.

Hmm... It seems like you ordered it already. While I agree that X-530 are great speakers at that price, you can actually get some nice 2.1 speakers under $50. If you have a Fry's near you, you can check those out since they always seem to have deals on the 2.1 speakers.

Wal-Mart.com has Dolby 5.1 speakers for like 40$

i got a set a couple months ago, and they work great.
but defiintaly if your looking for a higher end set, go Logitech or one of the name brands.
