Any component cable suggestions?

CAGiversary!
Just wondering if it's worth it to upgrade from S-Video to Component. I've fallen back in love with my PS2 thanks to getting a Logitech wireless, a big TV, and realizing I have a ridiculous backlog . So, is it worth it to upgrade the cables? I've become a bit of a graphics whore after getting used to HDMI on my Xbox 360, and I realize new cables won't make my PS2 that much prettier, but I still feel like it's still a bit more grainy than it needs to be.

Anyway, thoughts and suggestions as to which cables I should buy? Thanks!

You should check if you can even tell the difference. I can tell component is better but most people I know doesn't think it looks any better than composite.

With component, you'll be able to do progressive scan (provided the game supports it). At between interlaced and progressive, there's a substantial difference.

Just to warn you, PS1 games look like butt over component. On the other hand, God of War and Shadow of the Colossus will look amazing.

Thanks all! I picked up the Playstation brand component cable for $20 just now at Meijer. I'll look into progressive scan, and I'll keep my s-video cable in case I feel like revisiting some classics.

So far I think all our PS2 games look much better over component, even games I wasn't expecting. For example, Madden '07 looks fantastic! What's interesting is that I think Madden '07 is kicking into progressive and widescreen mode automatically without me having to set anything, because it doesn't look distorted at all and it looks great and I never had to set an option and there doesn't appear to be any option for either of these things. Note that the PS2 itself, if you go into its menu (power up without a game in, and go into the options), has options for 16:9 (and I believe progressive, but don't quote me) so that is probably what Madden is triggering off of. So you probably won't get 16:9 and progressive in Madden unless you set the options there. That is, however, how it should work. You should set it on the console, and then all games should pay attention to the setting there. It's just that most games...

...seem to be stupid about 16:9 and progressive scan and have their own independent settings. You have to manually set both if they are available, within the game itself. So always check the graphics options and see what's available. Super Monkey Ball Adventure, for example (which my kids rented) has a 16:9 option, but it isn't on by default. The game looks great in 16:9.

Component to an LCD w/PS1 games wouldn't even work for me. in order to play SoTN or Spider-man I had to unplug the components and put back the standard composites that come with the system.

All I would get is a boot to the intro screen, then it would go wonky and lose the visual signal. I could still hear the music and even start the game, but no picture.

I love my component cables, even with the extra jaggies sometimes.
