any confirmed word on a ps2 price drop for E3??
It would be ridiculous if Sony didn't match the Xbox price. I'm surprised that they haven't acted already!
Sony is just casually demonstrating its market leader status right now. "Look guys, we were the first ones out the door with a next gen system, we have the largest installed base, and we can charge the most for our system... cower before our might..." Really though, I think that they want to have an exciting E3 presentation for all of their retailers. If they first showed all of their upcoming games, then went to show how their online strategy is playing out, they could work right up to the climax: a substantial price drop. They would please their crowd and create buzz for their company again.

The only problem is that I heard that at the rate XBox is selling now they could quite possibly loose that status.

Nice article. That is sony's problem, thinking they are superior. They aren't. Their sales in every departement are falling. Plus, in addition to the PS2, you gotta buy the online adapter, memory cards, multi tap, they have been ripping people off for years.

Nick's right. They charge money for every little thing they can think of.

I mean, Nintendo and Xbox weren't CHEAP enough to have only 2 controller slots. That's just so lame. If you want another guy to play, you gotta play 30 bucks for a new stinkin' multitap. Bah.

Looks like Sony's in a bit of a jam, reading that article. Thank God the pricedrop should be coming soon.

I'm pretty sure Sony is going to lose their foothold on the next generation of systems. Maybe that's wishful thinking but this article leads me to believe that they aren't as untouchable as they'd like to think.

I really want the price to drop before I head off to college. I mean, having a GC with 4 controllers is fun, but some games on the PS2 just kick ass...

Dude when the PS3 comes out, everyone's going to be turning cartwheels when it has 4 controller ports. They'll all be acting like it's some big innovation, "finally gamers can come together and play without a peripheral!". You heard it here first folks.

while on xbox you have to pay to play online (which is more per year then a network adapter once) and pay to play dvds, dont try and make it sound like microsoft is an all included package, far from it.

im with you guys on the 2 controller ports tho. i mean i got a 5 plug multitap for $7.99, but thats not the point, it should be pre installed

^ That's so true, it's sad.

Provided... the PS3 DOES have 4 or so ports.
If they don't, I'll be forced to laugh at Sony's ignorance, arrogance, and stupidity.

Just like someone's gonna laugh at me for putting those three words together. =P

What a interesting world we live in.......

Sony think that r the king cause they have won against Nintendo, and Sega. But, little did Sony know M$ is the next in line to kick it's @$$.

The lesson of my story is DON"T BE NAIVE (like sony), FACE THE REAL WORLD(since all gamer care about is the price of the consle)!!!!

*Please forgive my lacking understand of ENglish, if u don't understand, ignore that post!!!*

Let's put it this way:

Xbox out of the box with built in broadband, hard drive and game (Halo bundle) = $180
DVD capability = $ 30
Xbox Live = $50 anually. All comes to $260

PS2 out of the box with Network adapter and free game and DVD capability out of the box = $200
Hard Drive with game which you have to pay a monthly fee = $100 (assuming you won't be playing FF XI for long)
No anual fee for most games. Total = $300

If you think of what it would cost to make both systems give you the same services then the difference doesn't amount to much.
I personally love all of the systems as they all offer different games that I love. It all comes down to the games in the end.

I'm actually silently rooting for Nintendo and Microsoft. I personally dislike Sony's current strategy in the gaming market, and I hope that both the Big N and MS show Sony how the game is played. Sony has overlooked a few things for way too long, especially the four controller port issue. E3 will definitely mix things up this year.

Ok,

I didn't think anything of it because I already have my PS2, but I believe I saw it for $150 at Circuit City tonight. Isn't that the drop we're all talking about?

Like I said, I can't confirm for certain. Also, it was an endcap and there was only one PS2 system, so it is possible that it was an XBox display and someone had just set a PS2 on it...

thats kind of an unfair comparison because many xbox games use the hd, and only 1 ps2 game does. the hd is FAR from required or even needed, unless u want ffx

I agree with you but who wants to buy 2 or more memory cards to keep up with the high volume of game saves that you will require from playing the many different games. Unless you could care less about spending all of that time and then delete them room. To me that's a disadvantage.
And don't say that I'm a fanboy either as I'm playing my ps2 these days more than my xbox, with gamecube a distant third.

a 2 pack of ps2 mem cards is 40, which is a decent price for how much they hold.

so that roughly puts the ps2 at 260 (game, multitap ,netowrk, and memcards) and xbox(game, dvd, year of live) at 260 but with the xbox, the dvd remote is included, and u have virtually unlimited gamesave space. as a drawback if u like playing online, 50 more in a year.

if u ask me, it seems pretty balanced

I'm not sure if I can be for Nintendo. I mean after they just dropped Sony from their next gen plans way back during the super nintendo days. They kind of deserved what happened to them.

Some could say that Microsoft is just a huge evil corporation but they do make a quality product in my opinion. The new PS2 30001 models seem so cheap in their construction when compared to the XBox and Gamecube.

Basically everyone's gonna have their prefrences and I guess there's ways to criticize each system.
Why all the PS2 bashing? No need for fanboy rants here. :puke:
I've personally rediscovered my passion for the PS2 lately. Still don't like it as much as my XBox but I don't think its a big heaping pile of crap now that I got the network adapter and hard drive for it. Its almost as sexy as my XBox now.
Why all the PS2 bashing? No need for fanboy rants here. :puke:
Personally I have nothing aganist the PS2, but I do dislike SCEA with a passion (then again the same goes for NOA). If I did not have the desire to get online and play some good fighting games( Guilty Gear XX), I would really pick a PS2 over an Xbox anyday

That's my problem. I don't have $40 to throw around every time my game collection increases.
RvB, if you have the hard drive, I assume you are playing FFXI. If so, what server are you on?
I bought the hard drive the day it came out because it was cheap at Target. I made a vow though that I would not start playing FFXI because it would take too much time away from school work, so I would wait to start it up until classes were over. I'm now less than a week away from my last final.

FFXI I will be yours soon...

Lemme know when you decide to start. I can get you a world pass onto my server, we can kick it, taru-style.

i agree, thats y the xbox has a sleight edge there, but on the flip side, do u have 50$ a year to throw away on online gaming?

i think everyone can agree here....gamecube=best value

while it lacks any kind of real online support, the memory card are cheap, it has 4 ports, and an amazing 1st party wireless controller

yes it is. I would wait another month for the 8 MB GCN memory card to come out

My GameStop is already selling the MadCatz 16 MB memory card. Is the one you are talking about 1st or 3rd party?

Has anyone noticed Nintendo's obsession with incrementally improving their products over a short period of time? Memory Card 59, 251, 1019. Game Boy Advance, GBA SP, now Dual Screen? It's almost criminal.

I don't mind paying $5 a month to #1 prolong the life of a game that I would have stopped playing sooner(still playing PGR2 to this date) and #2 compete against the best players in the world. That being said, I love the fact that most PS2 games don't have a fee. But still the competition on Live is "better" than on the PS2.

So...did anyone notice that Sony is going the way of Nintendo right now? With Sony's bigheadedness and supposed market domination, Nintendo slipped up the same way and then Sony creeped up from behind and was all "What are your interests? Who are you with?" to which our answer was "bad ass games and nintendo...for now." Then they overtook Nintendo in the blink of an eye. I think that's how everyone perceives Sony right now. Just waiting to be pounced on by Microsoft.
So...did anyone notice that Sony is going the way of Nintendo right now?
No. It's funny how Sony doesn't copy M$ and drop the price right away and people start predicting the downfall of the Ev1L S0nY.

That's not unfair, that just goes to show how little you get for your money with the PS2 HD. Unless you are playing FFXI it's really a waste of $99 right now. I'm very glad that I bought an Xbox instead of the HDD and NA for my PS2.
