Any good strategy games?

I have an itch for a GOOD strategy game. Something that really makes me think. This rules out ALL RTSs immediately. Advance Wars is also out, as it is a large part massing troops then rushing. I feel more like Leeroy Jenkins than I do Patton. Same with the Sid Meier type strategy games, only they also involve gaming the unintuitive economic systems. Fire Emblem doesn't impress me either. Can anybody recommend something intuitive and deep without being too obtuse?

I'm looking at getting into RotK or Dynasty Tactics, but I'm open to any suggestions.

And, please, keep it relatively attainable.
 
Try Galactic Civilizations II but it is a "Sid Meier type" game. Panzer General is good if you are into war games, Railroad Tycoon is good if you are into rail games, Empire Builder if you are into board and rail games, Shining Force (I, II, CD or III) if you are into fantasy. This is all I could think of ATM. You can't go wrong with Civ2 ;)
 
Recently I've been spending time on Age of Empires, Age of Kings for the DS. It's very "Advance Wars" like, but not quite as much of the mass troops and rush due to the "Unit cap." Your choice of units has to be a bit more premeditated. However, it does not go without flaws. There has been many a long battle that ended without saving due to a glitch in the game.

well you also got Field commander, which looks very good.

JAAAAAAAAASTER JAMES McMANUS, if I find out you are sitting at work posting all day I am probably going to take away your sewing privileges.

And BTW what ever happened to that nice young man you were seeing, you know the one with the highlights in his moustache. He is a way better catch than that flamer w/ the bow tie you have been bringing home lately, oh who am I kidding you probably ruined it with that guy. :(

But Field Commander is the PSP's Advance Wars and he said Advance Wars was out.
 
Oh and Jaster honey, if you ever get an opportunity with that nice Christopher kid do your best to not be yourself, he is a keeper
 
If you happen to be a Star Wars nerd, you may enjoy Empire at War. However, I discovered that some of the joy of an RTS is collecting funds to support your army. Empire at War's "collecting" isn't nearly as enjoyable.
