Here is my situation.. I currently own a 360 (original 20 GB model) and a Wii. I am planning on selling my Wii since it serves no real purpose for me. Most games seem to be too kiddish for me. I was thinking about getting a PS3 but for the main reasons of Blu-Ray and Backwards Compatibility. Unfortunately I've heard the newer 80 GB (and upcoming 160 GB) will not play PS2 games at all so I would have to try and find a 60 GB used. If I already own a 360, is it worth buying a PS3 just for the Blu-Ray player or are there any good exclusive PS3 games coming out soon? I don't mind buying used but I am afraid that if I buy a 60 GB model, it will have no warranty and if it breaks I am out $400+. Any suggestions on where to find one of these and get a warranty on it?
The best answer I can give you is to say to flip games you buy cheap for more in credit to other places to be able to cut down the price of the PS3 a bit. That's what I did, I had about $100-150 in credit with FYE, which I used to knock off a bit from the $399 price tag of the PS3.
If you already have a PS2, just keep that for games you wanna play that the PS3 can't, since it's apparent that Sony isn't going to be making the newer PS3's BC anymore.
I still don't get why the
that is, since the software BC program was on the recent MGS 4 bundled PS3. I mean, aside from keeping sales of the PStwo slim brisk, that is, since they have to make up the $$$ they're losing on the PS3 someplace I guess.
Anyway, if you have enough saved up for the PS3 @ $399, hit up Best Buy since their product replacement plan is about the best extended warranty thing going. If it breaks within 2 years of purchase, you can just go in store and pick up another one. Doing that uses up the PRP though, so only use it if you're really certain that your PS3 is majorly
ed up.
As for using the PS3 only for BR playback, I can't really voice an opinion on this, since I've seen all of ONE movie on it on a BR(the Spiderman one that came with the 40gb for a while). I wasn't too impressed by it though.
As for games to play, here's a short list of ones to get(some of which may be clearanced at some stores):
Marvel Ultimate Alliance($16.96 @ Circuit City)
Conan(God Of War clone, $20-30 most places)
The Godfather: Don's Edition(clearance, but I don't remember where)
Grand Theft Auto IV(still full price, but the online modes are fun and the main storyline is decent)
Hope this helps to make your decision....oh and check the Blockbuster/Gamerush thread for some ideas on what to try and flip to Blockbuster/Gamerush or even back to Gamestop to try and get some cheap credit to offset your costs.
