Any Serenity deals?
Or Target for $16.99
It was $19.99 at my store, if I was thinking I guess I should have scanned it to make sure they didn't forget to mark it as on sale.
I'm waiting for the inevitable TV + movie super duper ultimate limited unrated collector's edition box set...
I bought Serenity at BB after a Fry's PM for $14.99 + tax, but I rather doubt that their will ever be a TV + movie super duper ultimate limited unrated collector's edition box set since for one, the movie and the television show are from two different studios and that could be the reason why Serenity wasn't bundled with Firefly this week. Also, this movie will probably sell well, but not enough for another promo or such, I mean it does have a rather large cult following, but I doubt there will ever be another set.

Yeah, my store didn't have any sale signs out, just the normal $19.99 sticker, but if you take it to a price scanner, it comes up $16.99
For about $17 you can pick it up in a combo with The Hulk DVD... Terrible movie but, hey, just about free!
Where the hell was that at? The Hulk wasn't so bad that I wouldn't mind paying 8.50 for it and serenity.

Oops... I saw it at Wal-Mart tonight.

Went to Fry's in Atlanta and found Serenity to be $14.99... I also wanted to pick up Battlestar Galactica 2.0... and that was on sale for $29.99

Turns out both had a sticker on them for $10 off if you bought both together.

Cost me ~$37 after tax for both. ^^

Just to let you know, they're probably going to re-release Battlestar later with the rest of season 2 as that only has part of it.

I also did this and also agree on their most likely never being another release.

Dang! I just bought Serenity and BSG 2.0. I thought it was the full season though. Oh well, I did get a good deal. Serenity was $17.99 and BGS was $32.99, but each one had the $10 off is bought together. The clerk let me use both coupons even though I said like three time, I think you can only one. They wouldn't scan in but he said, "Well I have to do it by hand anyway, so I'll let you use both." Me: "Ok."

For the people in the know, is Serenity a sequel or prequel to the series? Or does it take place during the events of the series? I have only watched a few of the Firefly episodes on TV/DVD but plan pn watching them over the holidays. Should I watch the movie first or last for maximum viewing pleasure?

Yes, the Fry's next to Gwinnett Place Mall.

Serenity takes place after the tv series and should definitely be watched after watching all of the episodes.

serenity follows up six months after the end of the series. That battlestar galactica deal is pretty good best buy already is selling bsg 8$ cheaper than walmart and then you get serenity for only 8$ pretty snazzy.

Thanks for the info. I will finish up the TV series now knowing Serenity is at the end.

I picked up bsg season 2, and serentity at best buy. I was very happy about the $10 off in bought in combo. I am pretty sure that bsg season 2, is the completion of the first season. It started last january, with about 12 episodes, and then picked up again in the summer. They originally claimed it was the completion of the first season, but then changed it to season 2, and the upcoming shows in january are called season 3. USA did the same thing with wanted. When it stopped in Aug, they said the first season will complete in Dec, but now here in Dec, they are calling it season 2.

All three shows on Sci-fi SG-1, Atlantis and Battlestar are in their mid-season breaks. They have done this for the past 4-5 years with SG-1 and varius other shows that followed it. The BSG Season 2.0 set is only part of season 2 and what starts to air in January is not Season 3 just the last 7 episodes of 2. Season 10 of SG-1, 3 of SGA and 3 of BSG go into production in March or so. The first season of BSG consists of the Mini-series and 13 Additional episodes. The Current Season 2 is 17( of which 10 have aired) episodes which is roughly the same run-time as Season 1.

It is recommended to watch the series first, but you don't have to. My friend jumped into the movie and understood basically everything that was going on and the characters, minus a couple loose ends I had to tie him in on.

For Battlestar, wouldn't this be the start of season 2. As they showed 10 or so shows last winter, then 10 or so more in the summer. Wouldn't that be a complete season 1?

I assumed they called it 'Season 2.0' instead of just 'Season 2' because there's going to be a 2.5 box or 2.something box next.

Anyway, it's all just useless semantics... I'm glad they brought out 2.0 because I hadn't seen them when they aired.

well the season 2 that just came out on dvd, was much better then the first in my opinion, and I thought the first was good.

No. The first season, which aired last winter was only 13 episodes because that's all Sci-Fi ordered.
Sci-Fi picked up a 20 episode second season, aired the first 10 this summer, and they are going to air the second 10 in a week or two.

Shame on you for ignoring my Serenity primer CAG thread ;)
http://www.cheapassgamer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=67328

That thread has info on the comic as well as links to the synopsis of the plotlines from the 3 comics and info about where to download several viral marketing clips.

On January 25th Dark Horse will release a single book which has all 3 comics brought together.

Some bad news, I just read an article about Joss Whedon and he stated that there will be no more Firefly/Serenity made. He believes the story has been told.

I assume you mean the EW article, he states that the movie gave him closure, not that he does not want to do anymore, they took the quote out of context and he has sense said that.

Oh, I've been meaning to jump into that thread, but just haven't had enough time to. Would love to chat Serenity and Firefly. Anyway, hadn't known there were comics either and I am thrilled that they are being collected in a GN...will be bought like Serenity, on the first day of release.

Most of the info is in the first post.

Eugh went to Wal-Mart to pick up the Hulk bundle only to find that the 2-pack was fullscreen only. Changed my mind to a rental only right then and there.

hmm, maybe they were just out of the widescreen packs?

Thanks for the Hulk deal. I saw it at a Wal-Mart while on vacation. Only one widescreen copy, but nice grab.

The comics are great. They do a great job of bridging the end of Firefly and Serenity. I'm sure you'll enjoy them.
The comics sold very well (I believe they got second print runs) so we may be getting more Firefly comics in the future. :D

We are, work has already begun. About the main thing I didn't like about the comics is there is the return of a certain villian from the Firefly series that it is just beyond improbably into the bounds of impossibility that the character in question could be there. It took me right out of the story when he showed up as Firefly is supposed to be grounded in reality.

Whedon has said that he'd love to do more, he just doesn't think anyone would fund it.

But, there is a good thing that I noticed....Serenity's #1 with Amazon sales and the Firefly DVD series set is #3. It looks like the DVDs are just kicking almighty ass. Maybe this means we'll see either another movie or (better) a new TV series on SciFi :D.

I just might crap my pants with joy if that happened.

It was kind of strange to see that villain again, since I thought that character was dead and would never be seen again. After I got over the shock of seeing that character again I didn't mind that character being in the comics, even if it was pretty improbable.
Plus, seeing all those villians working together was really cool.
Does the comic book explain how Shepherd Book was on a different planet and not part of the crew in Serenity?
Yep, the short version is Book gets pulled into some of Mal's shenanigans and after it is all said and done he leaves because he feels he is on the verge of dredging up some of the demons from his past.

Mal: "Look, shepherd, I'll make this plain…it doesn't matter to me that you hit me."
Book: "Which is exactly why I need to be away from you. Because sooner or later, it won't matter to me, either."
Where can I get these comics you guys speak of?
I found mine in local book stores in their comics section, though by this point they may be out of stock. Your best bet is probably to purchase the compilation of the 3 comics in one book when it is released at the end of January. Of course if your city has any comic book shops you'll probably find them there or they might be able to order them for you. Or you can buy them online through a retailer recommeneded by the publisher of the comic, Dark Horse.

http://www.darkhorse.com/search/search.php?frompage=userinput&sstring=serenity

or preorder the compilation from amazon
