I'm talking about something simple and easy to convert DVDs to AVI files? Is there any such software to do this? Again I can't stress simple enough. Thanks.

I think the program you're looking for is called Handbrake.
I believe the newest version of it requires that you have VLC if you want to rip commercial DVDs.

I dont know of a single program, but 3 programs do the job for me, and its really not all that complicated. DVDshrink, DVDdecryptor, and AutoGK.
you only need decryptor for newer dvds in which shrink cant break the copy protection. basically both shrink and decryptor will rip the dvd into .vob and .ifo files, then use autogk to convert those files to a divx/xvid .avi

www.videohelp.com has alot of good tutorials and information about all those prgorams plus alot more.

I use handbrake but its usually after i have ripped the dvd to an iso file. Anydvd (not free) is good for stripping the encryption.

according to the website, handbrake uses VLC's libdvdcss to enable you to rip (both free).

Thanks a lot. Handbrake does seem to be exactly what I was looking for. Many thanks.

Now... what is a simple program to rip VCD into AVI files? There is so much out there but again I need something simple like Handbrake. Thanks again!
