EDIT: Yeah I know it's not gaming, but there's really no place else to ask for Canada.

So I'm on Fido, yeah 'nuff said.

The service sucks, I'd lose service on a clear day by walking under an archway or a large tree. And my shadow job (not FS) requires me to have internet on my phone (for email purposes, but I browse when I'm bored) however going into Google or even their own "web portal" is extraneously slow, I actually just leave it in my pocket, take it out after five minutes to find it still loading. Hell "mobile editions" of websites (Destructoid, Kotaku, etc) are slow too. This is all on "3G" btw (with the "3G" SIM card in the phone).

So I need to cancel it out, I have to number for their cancellation line (which I had to dig the internet for since they refused to give it to me), but what can I say really? I just want to get around paying the cancellation fee for the godamn phone (I signed a new contract to renew) and the phone sucks anyway (Samsung Jack II, so laggy, keys don't even respond), any tips on what to tell the rep?

To finally get out of a previous one of mine, I simply lowered my plan to the cheapest one, didn't pay it for three months, got it sent to a creditor and paid it before it hit collections.
I fucking hate Bell/SaskTel. Assholes, the lot of 'em.

You might have better luck on HowardForums asking this, but it depends on your contract. Is your phone 3G capable? And if you're browsing the web, I hope you have a plan which isn't all that much cheaper but damn Rogers rapes you with their fees..

Man, reminds me of my Rogers' contract a few years ago.

They dinged me for a whole extra month of service after my 2 years were up because I didn't let them know I was cancelling 30 days in advance. I'm never getting another cell phone.

Do you want to cancel and go to Bell, Telus, or Rogers? If Rogers, you can get them to transfer you over to a new contract there with no charge. I'm not sure who you have to talk to (Rogers or Fido), but it can be done. Over the phone only. Not in store.

arent there like No contract (pay by the cards) smart phones? it's better than being tied to a contract for a couple of years

Yeah but really, my VOICE plan is perfect but sadly my internet plan is shit, and I do want to go to another company that has better reception, Rogers is the devil but dammit their coverage is amazing.

Maybe stick it out? Fido is included expanded network (aka Rogers' network) for free now. I don't know if it applies only to new plans or if it's for all customers. Or phone and tell retentions you're thinking of quitting because of coverage issues with the non-expanded network + internet and see if you can get it added for free.

Edit: Nope, you're screwed on expanded coverage: http://www.fido.ca/web/content/faq/faq_existing_customers
Gotta switch to a new plan, pay, or bitch and moan!

Umm... You DO know that if reception sucks on Fido, it will suck just as much on Rogers since the use the same towers, right? Before they took over Fido (and the 850 phones) Rogers was the one with crappy reception. After combining the networks, they had billboards advertising between 40 and 60 percent better coverage depending on the city from what I've seen.
Should probably bring your phone into the Fido in the Eaton Centre and get them to check it out. Even with a 1900 only phone in Toronto there shouldn't be too many places with bad reception.

Depends. Fido has worse coverage than Rogers outside major metropolitan centres. Although Rogers customers can use both the Rogers and Fido towers, Fido customers can only use Fido towers and need to pay to use the Rogers towers.

I agree with getting your phone checked out. What phone do you have?

Where I'm headed... going from Sprint $40 to Virgin Mobile $25 or so. Prepaid doesn't come with any fake taxes either. fuck you Cell phone industry.

I'm using a Samsung Jack II, keyboard sucks on it, I've already gotten it checked out at the Fido place in EC, the guy told me that was the phone really, there was not much he could do other than a master reset, which I did, and didn't help much, keypad still lags like a bitch and I can't seem to access programs without waiting a few seconds of the little circle "loading" icon blocking me. Annoying at best, I'll try calling Fido today see what they'll do to me.
