Anybody not like the New Super Mario Brothers (DS)?
I love it. Probably my 3rd favorite of the 2D mario games behind Super Mario World and SMB3.
Same. Better than the original SMB, and MUCH better than SMB2 (Doki Doki Panic). I'm not counting 3D games or Yoshi's Island in this equation though, since they aren't really 'traditional' mario games.
Partners in Time was much less forgiving in its save points and I didn't hear anyone complaining about that.
That was my big gripe with that game and Superstar Saga, but I figured they had to do that with all of the info that needed to be tracked (items, levels, power ratings, etc.). With NSMB it shouldn't be an issue because it is a much more simple game, but it does give it that nostalgia feel of not being able to save on the original NES carts.

Dane.
Super Princess Peach >>>>>>> New Super Mario Bros, by far.
Hell yeah. I thought I was the only one that thought that.

I liked this more than princes peach due to the fact that there was close to no puzzle solving. I like picking a mario game up and being able to just run to the end with obstacles in the way. But, it was dissapointing compared to the previous mario's. Besides, I played Yoshi's Island for the first time right before the new mario, so expectations were high. Like another CAG said, if it wouldn't have had mario in it, no one would've really liked it as much.

Super Princess Peach had everything... memorable levels, awesome boss fights, a ton of old Mario enemies with some new twists, an awesome end fight, a great story, some creative ideas.

New Super Mario Bros, to me, didn't have creative level design, and some boring new enemies... oh wow, a giant eel, and a spider.

It's sad that people seem to overlook Super Princess Peach... it's an amazing game.

Although I would have preferred something more SMB3- or SMW-inspired, I can't complain with the choice to make it more like SMB1. Although I was not a fan of the 3D-on-2D graphics, I can't complain that they made a wild choice (that happened to save them a LOT of animation time) and ran with it.

What I will complain about, though, is that the game felt like little more than uninspired fanservice to me. I can count the number of levels that made me think "wow, that's really cool!" on one hand; I experienced this practically every other level my first time playing through SMB2, SMB2j, SMB3, SMW, Yoshi's Island, or M64. It just felt too much like a rehash of what I'd already played, and a watered-down rehash at that. I know they were capable of coming up with innovative level designs, as a few levels were really cool (I LOVED the final castle), but the rest just left me wanting more.

New SMB was way, way, WAY too easy. Especially the bosses. If you had the mega mushroom, forget it, a butt stomp and it was over. I'd rank it fourth (SMB3, Super Mario World, Mario 1, NSMB, Mario 2), but even then, that's not bad. I enjoyed it.. it was just.. over very quickly, which sucked. I was really, really, really hoping for wi-fi co-op.

I'm really hyped to play Princess Peach after you guys have talked so much about it.

I just finished NSMB today and I have to say Bravo, I still need to unlock a couple of places and I have a few more tokens to collect but it is a damn great game. I can live with it being so easy since my (nongamer) fiancee has played it for 4 hrs. the last 2 days. She wouldn't play it if it was any harder then what it is.

I played some of it at the store. I walked away underwhelmed. Meh. Not worth $35 to me.
I'm really hoping that, due to the success of this game, Nintendo decides to release a New Super Mario World. Super Mario World, in my opinion, is the best Mario game to date.
Wow, I didn't even think of doing sequels that way! That would be great! Updates to all of them eventually, kind of what the Mario Advance series should have been. (Let me say, though, that I think straight ports were great because it's so nice to have those games on the go.)

By the way, SMW is definitely the best one. The levels were great and the map huge. I'm surprised a lot of people put SMB3 above SMW. I find SMB3's levels way too short now. You get past one challenge and you're at the end. Easy to sprint through, until the last couple worlds, of course.

If you thought NSMB was way to easy, then you'll be even more annoyed with Peach as it's MUCH easier than NSMB.

Both in just beating, and in unlocking everything.

Still a great game IMO, but just a heads up due to your NSMB complaint.
