Anyone actually get carded when buying a game?

Spacepest

CAGiversary!
Ok, tonight I had something funny happen to me.

I was at TRU buying a game...and got carded! Guy insisted on seeing my i.d. before selling me my game (rated M, he wanted to make sure I was "over 17").

By the way, I'm almost 30 years old. LMAO, i've never been carded for a game in my entire life, so this struck me as particularly funny. (Not that I'm against people being carded for buying certain games...but c'mon...i'm not a teenager).

I've only been carded once at Target a couple years ago. I was 16 back then so I had to have my brother buy it for me. Funny thing was I had a fair amount of facial hair even back then, but oh well.

I got carded once at Best Buy when buying one of the xbox exhibition discs.
It totally pissed me off. I am 32 and I don't look like I am under age...
At TRU a clerk just asked me if I was under age, she knew the answer.
She said she didn't want to see my ID but just wanted to make sure she didn't get in trouble. TRU had /has? a policy that if the clerk doesn't check for ID that they can be fired at least thats what she said because a local tv news station had a young kid go in and buy GTA with no problem and did a story on it.

Kinda sad, I have never been carded for anything else...never

Never been carded anywhere regardless of how prickly or shaved my face has been. Probably because I always have my credit card pulled out by the time I hand them a game. Ironically enough, I get carded more frequently when I buy beer now than when I did when I was underage. Go figure.

Same here with the alcohol.

Have been carded at Walmart a few times and I just turned 31.

Yeah I'm 20, I've been carded a few times.

The funniest was a batty old man who made sure I was "over 13" when I bought FF X-2 last year...

I always get carded at TRU and I'm 24 with facial hair etc. I'm sure after they ring up a game a little message comes up on their register and they have to press enter after they ask you. I'm glad they ask, I'd rather show my card when buying an M rated game if it will ease up some of the bitching about video games.

I was carded just to LOOK at a game at TRU. I asked to see one from the display case and she ask me for ID.

Off topic: Do you know you have to be 18 to buy WD-40 at Walmart? I didnt until a few days ago.

I usually get checked on M-rated games at Best Buy. I don't even get carded for alcohol anymore.

It's no big deal though. I'd rather they card everyone and keep my kids from buying shit without me knowing. (Not that I have kids yet.)

I would assume some asses are either sniffing it or using it for some random concoction to get mildly high with no regard to the massive brain damage they're causing themselves.

Back on-topic.. I've never been carded or asked my age for a game.. but I did have one old woman card me for condoms at one point which I found massively humerous.

Yeah I've been carded at Best Buy, Target and Toy R Us. It is pretty annoying having to pull out my ID when I'm clearly over 17.

I was carded at Fred Meyer buying GTA, I'm glad that I was carded now, but then it was an inconvience. Personally I think it's bullspit that 'maturity' is based on age, I've been mature enough to tell the difference between reality and fantasy since I was 10. So when I was a few months away from 17, they wouldn't allow me to buy the game, as if the day I turn 17 the clouds open up and I realize that santa claus isn't real, and that you do have to answer for your actions.

Sorry for the rant. I'm 19 now btw.

I did at TRU! It was this little old Walter Mitty type, which - for lack of a better word - seemed so cute. He was super serious and said "Thank you, sir." Which - yeah, I'm also 24 and don't look young myself. I was charmed, seeing as how I rarely get carded at the liquor store. It made my day.
Ugh, I'm such a fruit.

That's why it should be up to the parents to decide what the magic number is. The rating system is a guideline, nothing more.

If your parents were keeping you from playing M-rated games based solely on the fact that you were not 17, they probably weren't too involved in your life anyway.

Ah, my wording was deceptive. The 'they' I was talking about was Fred Meyer, not my parents. My parents saw I bought it, and asked me if I knew what was in it. My parents trusted me enough to know the difference between reality and fantasy; they raised me correctly.

I knew what you were saying. What I meant is retailers are in the right carding kids for M-rated games. If you want to game, get Mom or Dad to come with you. ("You," in general terms.)

This goes beyond games. My girlfriend got carded last night for buying 1 (one!) bottle of Nyquil. She asked what the cashier what the age cut-off was but she didn't know...C'mon, we all know teens are smarter than that. It's the Baptists that are getting drunk off Nyquil, "It's not actually an alcoholic beverage, so Jesus must be okay with this."
I think I've been asked if I'm over 17 before when buying games, but it's farely obvious that I'm well out of my teens. I don't think I've been carded tho. Maybe I have. I don't know.

Ive been carded at target and tru, im 19(wasnt carded when i went to a club that had alcohol yet my gf and her cousin were and we were 18 her cousin was 20).

I think it depends on the employee because im pretty sure all stores have a policy where you card the person regardless of age. Hell i once carded a lady who was like a grandma and had white hair and i was a 17 year old working at Best Buy >.>

I think everyone should get carded though, i mean that grandma could have bought GTA for her grandson and not known what it was about, its a least 1 more step into saying hey its your own business if you give this to a minor.

Ah, I understand now. There was no problem with my parents buying the game for me, I think they actually already got it for me for christmas or my birthday. The thing was though I was a half hour away from home by myself and wasn't going to bother my parents to have them buy me a video game.

The person who I had tried to buy the game from had actually sold me mature games before. I just figured he could tell I was mature, so that's what surprised me really when he carded me. Ah well, gotta love a country where you can be sent off to kill people and can buy porn and cigarettes, but god forbid you drink. *coughs* If this's too OT, delete at your own discresion mods.

The only place I ever get carded is at Best Buy and EBGames. However, I'm 18 so I guess I'm around the right age where its kind of iffy.

Story about carding at Best Buy, my father, who is now in his late 40's, was buying RainbowSix 3 and they said they needed to see his card. Now, my dad is a real ass when it comes to stuff like that, so he argued with the cashier (even though I tried to explain to him that its store policy) for a good 3 minutes about it and ended up not buying the game because he refused to show his card.

I was carded at Best Buy yesterday while buying Half-Life 2 (Xbox). I'm almost 20, its the first time I've been carded in a while.

I've had them ask me my birthdate, but I don't think they've ever actually asked to see my ID.

I think at Best Buy it prompts the cashier to verify the customer was born before XX/XX/XXXX or something. Most of the time they just click through with me, but sometimes they'll ask.

I get worked up about certain things myself, but getting carded doesn't bug me for some reason. (Just don't get me started on Costco's policy of forcing customers to line up at the door to have their receipt checked.)

Several times at Blockbuster, Toys 'R Us, Target, CC, and even EB. I'm 19 now and I've been getting carded for about 3 years now. It's no big deal to me since it's a good policy.

People got pissed off at me when I carded at Blockbuster. I reveled in denying prep school kids renting privelges when their name wasn't on their parents' BB card. I had one guy's girlfriend bitch at me. To be fair, I never denied anyone the ability to rent if they were entitled to it.

Never, I'm 14 and I've been able to pretty much buy games as I please, hell, I preordered GTA:SA and picked it up on launch and still didn't get hassled (Note: This was all without parents...).

There's a good reason for that actually. One story that someone was telling me when I began was that at one point they had the furniture and the Electronics right next to each other. One day they noticed that one of the huge screen tv's was completely gone, no sign of it whatsoever, but the weird thing is that there was an extra couch laying around. What had happened was that someone had opened up the box of a couch, stuffed a tv inside, went through the register with the tv-in-couch-box and walked out the store with the tv, while only paying for the couch. They only really check if you have anything over $100 anyway.

I got carded once at Best Buy. It was around noon on a weekday and the girl working there asked me why I wasn't at school and I told her I go to UW and was done with class for the day then she asked to see my ID. I'm 20 btw.

I've never been carded for a video game in my life...

Been carded once for cigars, i'm sure that will change when I start going for alcohol when I hit 21.

I've seen my friend get carded at walmart for: Diablo 2, WD-40, other various flammable chemicals.

I laughed my ass off, since he didn't have his ID I had to buy WD-40 for him.

I'm 19 btw and he's 21. Haha

I actually got carded today in EBgames. The funny thing about it was the guy actually took out a calculator to do the math.
I'm 24 and I've been carded at both Target and Toys R Us.
Same here and i had a full beard at the time. It funny i can buy booze and the state liquor and not get carded and get carded for buying a M rated game

Whenever I shop at Best Buy, I get carded. Games, DVDs and CDs.

When I used to be 16 - 17, I was never carded. I think someone must have tightened things up around there.

Even the times I have facial hair (goatee, mutton chops, unkept beard, etc.), I get carded. :O

And, come to think of it, I get carded everywhere else but GameStop and Toys 'R' Us.

I think the best was when people were carded for buying eggs and toilet paper about three or four days before Halloween, especially if they seemed around high school/collegiate age. There ended up being less pranks around the neighborhood, oddly enough...I guess some people just never learned how to stockpile!

Otherwise, I've been carded once on a game many years ago but it didn't really matter since I was 19 or 20 at the time and I think I've been carded just once for alcohol. It's even better when it's done in a restaurant since my friends used to get carded all of the time, pass without a problem, then immediately hand off their ordered drink to someone else at the table who was obviously underage with no word from the server. Up to a certain point, huh?

Wow, alot of people are actually getting carded, I guess.

The funny thing was, I'm sure the guy carding me at TRU was younger than me. His voice still squeaked and cracked. XD

at Target for Killer 7. I look half my age, and the guy didn't believe that it was my real ID. kept asking me my birthdate, and how old it would make me. Yes, I admit I made a fake ID so I can buy mature rated video games...

I don't mind places carding for M games, it keeps the employees from getting yelled at. The last thing I want is for some parent to not be told about what a game is rated for and then take it out on me because her kid told her Grand Theft Auto was good for 9 year old. But carding someone who obviously looks old is lame.

Every time at Best Buy. At Target they ask a lot too but they just ask for a birthdate, so someone under 17 could lie. Sometimes at Toys R Us as well but usually they just bypass the age check. At Best Buy I think they card everyone (at least at my local store). I was buying GTA LCS and my dad was right there with me and they still asked for ID. I showed them my ID because I had my wallet out anyway but they really do seem to card everyone.

Bottom Line:

If you get denied a video game you're a straight loser and the worker hates your dorky ass so much that he doesn't want you to have your sweet game. If you're not cool you're going to get carded or whatever. If you are cool, you get what you want.

:booty::booty::booty:

never had a problem really beside geting carded only once in a while
I got carded for buying capcom fighting evolution.

I got carded at TRU for buying a rated T game (13 and up). I'm 22 and I look old, I don't get carded at the liquor store. And they were incredibly rude about it. Thats why I don't shop at TRU anymore.

I don't think I've been carded for anything in my life other than alcohol and Toys R Us.

That's fucked up, they love to enforce that policy because it's the only chance they get to show of their AMAZING POWER!

I'm 25 and have a full, thick beard. I don't look young. But TRU does a good job of carding here though. A few other places have carded me too, but I don't think I've bought many games they would have to card me for outside of TRU. GS did card me for RE4:CE for GCN. I think it's great though. They are doing what they are supposed to. A couple of kids at TRU have asked how old I was and rolled their eyes as they did. I just laugh and hand them my Driver's License. I hate that people get angry. That's why they are afraid to ask someone who is obviously old enough.

Same thing goes with Credit Cards and checks. So many people get ticked off when asked for ID. I make sure to let the cashiers who ask for ID that I appreciate it. I know if I ever lose a card or my checkbook, I don't want someone to go around spending my money. People are so retarded to complain about things that only protect them and society.
