Anyone pick up the newest NES clone, Generation NEX, from www.playmessiah.com last month? I heard some mix reviews. Mostly people bashing it becuase it's not %100 compatible with all games. It's more like %95. So what's the word from the cheap ass gamers who bought this. Like it, love it, hate it? Let me know.

I think there was a thread on this a little bit back. Apparently many games froze, many games glitched and the controllers weren't all that hot. I've not had personal experience with it, however.

I would like personal experiences. A lot of people who bought it are hardcore gamers and get very upset over the %5 of games that will not work. And I understand, who pay $60 for something and you would it to be perfect. On the upside, I heard nothing but good things about the wireless controlers that the company sells separately.

The volume for it is WAY too low. I have to max it out on my TV for it to be normal.

The Zapper lags like a mother fucker.

In terms of games I never had a problem though.

And I used original NES controllers, not the Messiah's.

I had a gen nex but I sold it rather quickly, its not a bad system but for the money I would buy one of the other clones on ebay, I personally picked up a " family boy" clones, go to ebay and type in nes and look through all the clone listings, you will see it. I could not resist it since I got it for right at $25 shipped ( less than half of what the gen nex ran me) and it kicks ass... Its not compatiable with same small number of games as the GEN NEX system( and the number of games is tiny) and I havent had a problem with any of my original nes games, no freeze ups or anything of that nature and the sound quality is good, I havent noticed any problems and I run mine through my surround sound system. Now the controllers do suck so just get some original nes controllers.. all of these clones come with the adapter you need to play US nes games, the slot is designed for japanese famicom carts, the adapter allows you connect your US games to it... never had a issue with that either... The only thing worth getting a Gen Nex for would be the wireless controllers..

Hmm. Great review on IGN:
http://gear.ign.com/articles/677/677770p1.html

I realize all the falts of the system but I'll still getting one (most because my sister is buying it for X-mas). Most of the bad review posts I read from other sites are from people who didn't buy it. They over heard talk than over exaggerate. I did find one or two bad reviews that I got good info on cons of the system:

1. The %5 of games the system is noncompatible with is nonacceptable because of all the hype and the price of $60.
This is something I can over look because I don't own that %5 and I not paying for it (gift).

2. The contoller it comes with sucks.
I don't see way this is a big deal. You can plug in your old NES controller

3. The audio is horrid.
This is something I got from the exaggerated posters. IGN and other positive didn't say anything about it. This might stem back to the hype and cost of the system. You hear about something this great, pay a good amount for it and the audio isn't perfect. I can see the complaint. But theirs a difference between so-so and horrid audio. This is something most people have to call for themselves.

All in all, free is the right price. I'll pick it up and try to write a review. The review is coming from a person that's no longer a "hardcore" gamer. In the past year I went from my game collection needing to be perfect (manuals, mint condition) to "I know care as long as the game works." So it'll be a modest review from a modested man.
What kills the deal, though, is that there's little to no price difference between this and a real NES.
The difference maker, for me, was the blinking I was getting with my NES.

I have one hooked up right next to my 360 and PS2. I love it. Some of the games I have, 8 out of 128 I have don't work on the NEX, but they didn't work in my original NES anymore either, whereas 30 of the 128 didn't work in my NES. 96 of the 128 blinked at start up with my original NES and 66 of those eventually worked in my NES after some blowing onto the contacts. The controlelrs are a little small, but for that I just use my NES Max controllers. I have no issue with the sound, and the picture is better, IMO than the coaxial hookup of the original NES. If you are on the fence, I highly recommend it. The price is a little high, but speaking as a gamer, well worth it!

Do you know that that's a paltry 5 to 10 dollar repair that will last for years?

Glad to see someone enjoys the system. When I get mine I'm going to splerg and buy the wireless controlers. I've heard nothing but good things about them, unlike the system.

Since 2001 I've been through four new 72 pin connectors. And the one I have now needs to be replaced. At $8 a piece, that's $40.

Yep...But that really didn't work for me too well. After I took it apart to replace the connectors, I had some 'spare parts'. :whistle2:\"

I owned the NEX weeks before IGN reviewed it, and I can tell you that the volume on my unit is VERY low.
