Anyone else NOT enjoying their Wii?
Now the touch screen is usually only used for good purposes, and many games don't even use it really.
Don't use it really?? Wha???
Don't use it really?? Wha???
Yoshi's Island doesn't use it, NSMB only used it to switch items, Super Princess peach only to switch vibes etc.

Games have moved beyond useless tech demos/mini games that just existed to use the touch screen (like Yoshi's Touch and Go, Feel the Magic etc.) to games like this, or games that make great use of the touch screen like Kirby Canvas Curse etc?

Looking back on Zelda TP, I'm not convinced that it was the experience I anticipated. I think all the pieces were in place, but the play control just wasn't right to me.

However, assuming you've taken it multiplayer, I don't see how Wii Sports can disappoint. My non-gaming neighbors--they've never owned a SINGLE console--wound up standing in line for a Wii last weekend simply because of the good times they had after dinner at my place. I'll grant that it's not a sophisticated game, but it is probably the best idea for a pack-in demo you'll ever come across.

What really sucks is that I spend Christmas eve with my entire family. Santa isn't bringing the Wii until Christmas morning, so no one in my family will get to play it. I just have this dying urge to share this thing with all the old folks who think videogames are just for kids.
Give it to Child's Play or some other children's charity.
yeah, right. the sites called cheap ass gamer, not dumb ass gamer.
I think what THPS meant is that he felt bad because he wasn't enjoying the Wii and a lot of people would. I guess he's saying he would enjoy the PS3 so it wouldn't be the same.
That makes a little bit more sense, thanks.

And oh, about the DS's touch screen, yea alot of developers don't use it anymore, since they can't get it to work right without feeling like it's a gimmick.

The guy in charge of Castlevania pretty much apologized for putting it in Dawn of Sorrow, he admitted it was a gimmick and a stupid one at that.

I don't think FF 3 uses the stylus, Yoshi's Island 2 dosen't, Castlevania: Portrait of Ruin dosen't. I'd rather a game uses it when they can implement it in right instead of half-assing it.

Games like Kirby's Canvas Curse, Trauma Center, and Cooking Mama are all awesome examples of this. I think it's time for a new thread on this.

Very true, bmulligan! I was pretty skeptical about Nintendo's ability to break out of the gamer stereotypes and the rut we've all been in for so long, but they've totally knocked it out of the park.

It's interesting to see people's eyes light up when they talk about the Wii, particularly if they aren't gamers. Parents are diving in and enjoying the system and non-gamers like dothog's neighbors are having fun with it, too. A lot of gamers are reporting that their wives and girlfriends are jumping in to play along with them, which is also awesome. Nintendo has done a truly great thing here. :)
Im not having much fun with my Wii right now either.

Stupid finals next week ;)
hear hear!! Seriously, though, to OP... if you don't like how the wiimote works, sell it. That's really the whole point of the system, and if you're not liking it, I doubt you're gonna have much fun.

Personally I've had a blast with Wii Sports and Excite Truck... breaking now for finals, though, and cause I was getting a seriously sore pitching arm ;P

Yeah, you can use the stylus in FF3.

Well lemme tell you this:

On the 360 I have halo 2 and Gears of War, on the Wii I have Zelda and Wii sports. I play the 360 MUCH more! Maybe cause the 360 is played on my monitor and the wii isnt so the graphics really are difference, but Zelda is a great game and all, but its graphics are REALLY starting to bring it down after playing even HALO 2 in HD. The gameplay is there... when you are in human form that is. The wolf parts of the game seem too adventure-like (more like a washed out spryo game). I cant really write up a mini-review yet though, I have only play for about 6 hours intotal, so I am hoping that that rumor written a month ago that the first 6 hours are boring were correct.

The wii isnt a BAD console, just not a very good one. Im sure this issue will be resolved when Mario Kart and stuff comes out though.

I'm enjoying it so far but I'm really dragging my feet about completing the last dungeon in Zelda because I know that when it's over there's nothing I want to play for another month. Wii Sports is fun but I've pretty much mastered everything. I roared through Ultimate Alliance twice with my roommate and neither of us is really interested in another go. I'm not picking up Excite Truck until it hits $30. VC is garbage for now. Unless Elebits gets absolutely rave reviews then I won't bother with it until a drop as well.

What really bothers me about the Wii is that NA didn't get Wii Play at launch and that the VC is so terrible. Zelda NES is the only AAA title and I've already got five different iterations of it. We just really got the short end of the stick compared to Japan and I don't know why.

The machine has been fun up to now but I think it will start collecting dust at the end of this week and stay unused until Jan 15th.

Super Swing Golf comes out either shortly or is already out. It looks like it'll be awesome based on the control descriptions, and "special moves" in golf is pretty awesome. Ie. A flaming golf ball missile, or having the ball spin an extra 5 yards after it has already come to a complete stop.
Well, I just reached the 6 hour mark and have had a blast with it. If it gets *BETTER* from here on out, bring it on!

And I'm getting Elebits for sure. Now, after that, there might be a lull until Wii Play and WarioWare. And honestly, neither of those I expect to have too much depth, so another lull will follow that until Mario Party and Metroid. (I'm hoping some 3rd party game will pop up and surprise me, though I have a hard time paying $50 for those).

But I don't mind the lulls, as I still have a huge number of GC, PS2, DS, and PSP games to play. If I had a 360 I think there would be a nice balance between the two systems.

Funny how this has turned into a "pro" Wii post.

I returned mine 2 days after I bought it. Gaming should be done sitting down, relaxed on a couch, not standing up with your arm extended for hours on end. Plus the system looked like crap on my HDTV, but I knew going in that it would. For me graphics rule over gameplay. Its hard to go from the visuals of an XBOX 360 or PS3 to a Wii.

That is the biggest croc. What game do you HAVE to be standing up for with your arms extended for hours? Baseball you don't, tennis you don't, zelda you don't, Red Steel you don't. Sounds like an excuse. You didn't even give the thing a chance.
Not to be an asshole, since it is a generous idea, but what is up with this line of thinking?

Those people who wanted the console "real bad" could have waited in line just like you did... when you buy a Wii for the second time, there will STILL be people who want a Wii "real bad".

By this logic, you should have a hard time enjoying any luxury item you purchase since people out there will want them real bad... hell, that computer you're typing on, you probably worked real hard for it but there alot of people who want a computer there.

I don't disagree with giving it to the family who's done alot, that's cool, but if one of your reasons for disliking the Wii is because you worked your ass off for a luxury item when other people didn't, that's kind of odd. I'm sure alot of people out there would love to have a 360 but I'm sure as hell not giving them mine that I worked for.

I mean, you're in the market for a PS3, I presume for yourself, but if you can't even play a Wii without feeling such pangs of remorse and guilt why even bother with the PS3?
Thank you, I never really thought of it that way. If they wanted one but couldn't get it because they can't find one, tough luck, they could've camped out like I did, in the blistering cold. If it's money thats preventing them from getting one, then tough luck again...I've worked hard to get to where I am today and have dealt with shit for years for money, so they can do the same. Thanks for knocking sense into me, now I won't feel so bad about having a PS3.

Which brings me to another thing, I guess what comes around goes around. I was having a hard time finding a PS3 (only was able to get a 20GB at launch, which I sold to hold off for a 60). Then, after I decided to donate my Wii, I hear from my father, who asks me if I'm looking for a PS3. This was odd, especially since I was at the time out looking for one. He told me someone at work knows a manager at Gamestop, who told him that they have them and will be selling them the next day (Friday). I think about this and wonder how all this happened...First off for someone to be telling my father about a PS3...not sure why his co-worker would share this info to him, considering my father is older, and his kids are grown, so I thought that was just lucky. Then my father telling me about the PS3. I guess he somehow knew that I was looking for one. SO long story short I got a PS3, but through means I cannot seem to comprehend. Not sure how or why the info about the shipment got to me but it did.

Now onto the Wii, I've been busy so the Wii is still in my posession, so I decided to play a little bit before I give it away. The system is really interesting and shows a lot of potential. Personally, I can't wait to get another one and I can't wait for more games to come out (Animal Crossing, Mario, Mario Kart, ect). For the $250 price tag this console is great, and now I'm starting to realize why people love it so much.

I think millions of DDR, guitar mania, taiko drum, Eye toy, Time crisis, and donkey konga fans would disagree with you. Realistic analog motion is part of gaming as well as thumb fragging and hand cramps.

Or carpal tunnel, for pc gamers. I've lived with it for years, the wii controls incredibly well in comparison, and I haven't cramped my arm at all.

And, Quite frankly I couldn't see myself going back to the PS2/ PS3 style pad after experiencing the wii, even for the sub par shader effects that my PC could easily replicate.

I haven't really had time for it, if that counts. I got it along with Zelda 2 days after launch and in total since then I think I've played Wii Sports for about 2 hours combined total playtime. But since my finals are over on Monday, it's game time :) Ah well, at least I've had Smackdown vs RAW 2007 to keep me over and calm my frustrations with school. Nothing like beating the living crap out of someone to calm you down :)
Hmm, I thought it was your girlfriend's system, not yours.
It IS my girlfriend's system, which makes it practically mine. I figured I said it was my girlfriend's system about 20 times since I bought it, and it didnt need to be repeated another 20 times, guess I was wrong. Then again, does it really matter in this thread?

She's not even playing it, she's playing Viva Pinata at my house.

I get Zelda from gamefly today or tomorrow... we'll see if I start really having fun with it then.

She does really love Trauma Center though... so its not completely going to waste... just maybe 2-3 hours a week of gametime... to me thats not much
For me graphics rule over gameplay.
Did anyone pick up on this? If you'd rather have a craptacular game with great graphics, than an incredibly fun game with crappy graphics, then by all means play away. Just don't expect people to critisize you when you call yourself a gamer.

Thats just plain ignorance to what he meant, and you know it.

Graphics to me are not the most important thing in the world (Every nintendo game besides metroid prime is a game I love) but they are still big parts to the game. If GOW had crappy graphics, I probably would have not enjoyed it. The graphics make me feel immersed, wowed.... and strangely, relaxed as it im in a totally different world that is strangely familiar to my own. (Clocktower, Gridlock, Mansion -- all maps that I can relate my life enviornments to.)
Let's face it...the Wii is a huge console right now with people desperate to find one. I got mine at launch, but haven't really been ablel to see what the big deal is. Everywhere I look people are talking about the Wii and how good it is. Personally, I can't seem to get into it. The only game I got with it was Zelda, and so far that's been a chore to play with along with Wii Sports. Basically, Wii Sports didn't interest me too much, it feels like a compilation of mini games. Sure you have the Wii controller to use, but all that's different is that you move your arm slightly instead of pressing a button as you would on another console. Now onto Zelda...I'm not a big fan of Zelda, but I gave this one a shot. The beginning of it was definitely a chore to play. Performing useless simple tasks was all I really was able to do. Then yesterday I got to the point where I got the sword. That was fun, using the controller like a sword to slash enemies. I will say that I actually had a little bit of fun for the first time with this console. Then possible spoiler ahead..I only got ~2 hours into the game but I figure I'll put this as a spoiler anyway just incase
I got turned into the wolf which ended my fun. Now I have to perform more boring tasks, which is what I'm doing now. On top of that, I have to listen to that stupid monster that follows me chuckling over and over. Honestly, now I can see why people are breaking their TV's with their Wii-mote. Last night, this monster's chuckling was getting on my nerves so I slammed the Wiimote on the carpet and left it at that. I don't know why but it annoyed me that much..

Anyway, anyone else not enjoying their Wii? Or does anyone have suggestions for games? I was thinking of TC since I somewhat enjoyed the DS version, but I figure I'd have to use the Wiimote to play with it, which is another thing I cannot stand. I have a hard time even navigating menu's with that pointer because of its sensitivity. In order for the pointer to go from one side of the TV to the other, I have to move the Wiimote less than an inch to the side. I assume I can change the sensitivity, I'll look into that later.

Normally I am a huge Nintendo fan. With every other Nintendo console (NES, SNES, N64, ect), I have fond memories of the first time playing the console. I remember each vividly and have always enjoyed their other consoles. This one I just can't get into.

I'm thinking of selling this or giving it away, but I know games will soon come out that I will want to play (Animal Crossing, Mario Kart, ect) and then I'll have to buy another. But the hype surrounding this system and the trouble people are going through for it is making me want to go and give it to some kid and make his day, which is what I'll probably end up doing.
I'll agree in that the first 2 hours of Zelda are painful. Its all good once you get to the first dungeon. My only gripe with Zelda is that if its not going to let you start where you saved then why have save freedom when its really just waypoint saves in reality. Stick with Zelda atleast till you finish the first dungeon then you can say you atleast gave it a shot.

Yes, great graphics make the game more immersive. I agree 100% on that, but what part of graphics over gameplay is there to missunderstand? Obviously I exaggerated, but it was to point out how it really does not make sense to choose graphics over gameplay. If that is his preference, than more power to him. Honestly though, it makes no sense to me.

I haven't had time for it since launch, which sucks. I've been busy with both my classes in the day and working at night. With finals this week, I'll still have to be dealing with 35-40 hour work weeks for a while.

I work gaming retail too, so this time is really crazy. I always feel really lucky when I actually get the time to play games. I would also have to mention (as weird as it sounds) that talking about the Wii at work, as well as answering the "when are getting more question/complaining", has hindered my enjoyment of the Wii as well.

I'm sure once the season is over, it'll all go back to normal.
