I keep trying to sign on, and I'm getting problems like I've never seen before. I turned on the Xbox, and it told me I signed onto XBL, yet the main page and the marketplace are both on the 'offline' screen. I'm getting the "You have 3 friends online" message, but I can't do anything. I put in COD4 and it, again, told me I signed into XBL and that I have three friends online, but I can't play online. Apparently, I'm connected, but my 360 isn't displaying any of the "connected" options.

This is very strange. Anyone else experiencing this?

Yep, I turned on the PC specifically to check and see if anyone else's is messed up. So you're not alone.

Yep, that's it.

It said something like 8 hours, though I don't remember when it started.

i know i got a message the other day about how xbox live was going to be off line for 8 hours. if i'm not mistaken, it might of been today.

probably for future updates or something. Not sure...

Whew!! I thought something was wrong with mine. But that is it, they did send me a message the other day about the service being down for a while.

was getting ready to fire my 360 up in a few minutes and then I saw this. I think I will wait until later on to play some games on there :D

any idea when its gonna be over?

I just got my 360 from amazon today, pissed its not a falcon, but hey it was really cheap so i cant really bitch about it. I am trying to share my macbook's wireless internet with my 360, until my new router comes and I can install DD-WRT onto it. Everything works, the connection test completes and then it says there's an update to download. Wohoo I'm connected... No, sorry, update failed. Is this because of xbl/microsoft or am I doing something wrong. I guess I can live without xbl for a day or two anyways. Just any help would be great.

XBL was down for a good portion of the day today for maintenance, try it now and see if it works.

If not, are you getting any specific error messages or anything that could help narrow the issue?

My fuck, Xbox Live is the shittiest add covered pay for everything piece of shit...

The 360 is a piece of crap.... If it's not the red ringing that gets you its the constant Xbox Live problems.
PS3 has a shitty online working and sucks registering/getting started and Xbox live is always fucked up and slow. Is it the NEXT gen where they fix all this...?

At least PSN is free. As a Gold member on XBL, i don't really see where my $50 is going since there are still ads...

You aren't paying to remove the ads. The only difference to someone paying for gold versus someone with silver, is online gaming.

It's suppose to be going to QoS (Quality of Service) that you are paying for. That means that online gaming should be consistent, easy, and fast. Matchmaking should be intuitive, work well, and consistently. And before someone responds with "Ha! it's rarely none of those things!".... First ask yourself if PSN is better.

Only someone that plays a ton on both PSN and Live can say if live is giving a better QoS.

When/if PSN starts offering a better QoS for online gaming than Live, things will change.

I've had matchmaking restart on me countless times in a row, only to be matched against guys ranging from 1-35 when playing Halo 3. The content costs the same for both Silver and Gold members. Nothing is consistent nor fast when it comes to XBL. I just have a hard time justifying spending $50 to play with friends.

still cant download update... ugg

It just days update failed and then says to test my connection... I do and then it sys there's an update, and then back to square one. I'll keep trying in hopes that its just a xbl issue.

I am not saying I don't believe you.

Is all of that stuff you listed better or at least the same on PSN?

If the answer is no, then nothing will change.

i'm just going to throw out there, that i'm fully satisfied with my yearly 50 dollars to Microsoft.

and, is that maint. over? i still cannot seem to connect? (yes, i still heart my xbox)

My router isn't working right at the moment. Is the xbl problems fixed yet or what, because if they aren't I wont press to fix my router.

maintenance was only supposed to be 8 hours so it should be done by now, but unlike PSN, they try doing maintenance on not so high peak hours
all my friends in Vegas are on now so its definitely over in the west coast

and my $25-$35 a yr for xbox live is worth every penny(thanx to CAG)
-i rather pay and have less problems with my xbl live by paying
-not having to enter in my CC info to get xblm points is also a plus
-also the ease of adding friends/sending game invites even when my buddys are playing other games
-a one button internet connection test is the way to go(a real plug and play)

if i get more than an hour of gameplay per dollar i spent i think its worth it (about 13 cents a day if you pay $50/yr)
my xbl gold membership pays for itself on Halo alone

OK, fixed the router, if only it was as easy as it was on South Park... But I just downloaded he update and its all fine now. Finally.

Bad consumer. The download speeds of PSN are perfectly fine...considering it is free. Matchmaking doesn't work all that well as of late so again, PSN is just fine.

yes, the download speeds on psn are fine. Infact they are faster than xbl, from what I've downloaded. It is taking forever to download the Biochock demo. On psn a download of a gig+ doesn't take as long, but maybe due to higher volume on the servers, xbl is slower. But there are definitely more things to download on xbl, thats for sure. I think my ps3 is going to be designated for movies and great single player games. MGS4 being the big one. And of course LBP. But I am going to switch to the 360 version of cod4. I have been very impressed with xbl.

I take it the update is to blame for being connected and disconnected to XBL? I log on but then that stupid stupid loading icon shows on the marketplace, xbox live, and game blades. I can't see anything because it hangs there. If I press the xbox button on the controller however it says I'm connected online.

I dunno wtf is going on...

I had to turn my 360 on just to see what all the fuss was about...

Mine is running just fine. Downloaded a theme and a picture pack to test it. Everything was moving at normal speeds.

Didn't try to get into any online games though, since I'm supposed to be finishing a paper for 9:30 AM.

I guess it's a little better now... although I was tryin to get a co op terrorist hunt via system link with a friend and we couldn't do it.

It disconnected me while I was playing Lost Odyssey. When I tried to sign in again, LO said my profile settings changed and just threw me at the main menu without saving.

Yargh! Who came up with that stupid shit?

This happened around 9:30PM central for me. When that happened I just stopped playing for the night.

I'm having an issue too. It lets me sign in and I can even play some rounds of COD4, but then I'm signed out. It's kind of annoying. It looks like I'll have to just unplug the internet when i get GTAIV, b/c there is not f*cking way that Microsoft will be able to handle that load.

yeah, I was playing NHL 08 last night in World Tournament mode. I played a few games and then went to save it for the night and it said that my lead Profile wasn't active. I checked and I wasn't signed in anymore. I then signed in and tried to save again and it still said that my lead profile wasn't active and that I'd have to go to the game's main menu to make it active. The problem with that is that I had to leave the Tournament menu without saving to get to the Main Menu. I just turned off the 360 and called it a night. Sucks that I need to replay my games now.

It happened around the same time as your issue as well.

Last night i was experiencing lag last night and it booted me and my buddy from xbox live twice.
it was weird cause im in vegas and hes in cali. it calmed down towards the end of our session.

I was logged in for a couple hours each day playing single player army of 2. Didn't have any issues, or any issues DL tv episodes or trailers/demo's.
