I'm thinking about buying a tv A refurb one costs me $475 while a brand new one cost me $595 + Store Tax.

Anyone bought a refurb tv before? Do they come with any major problems like not powering on. All help is appreciated thanks.
 
Check the warranty on it, often times these are demo units, etc, that are perfectly fine. Some companies offer their regular warranty on refurb goods some offer terrible. If the warranty period on the unit is ok, and it's a reputable manufacturer I wouldn't see a problem with it.
 
I'd feel better about buying a refurbished TV as opposed to a console or iPod. With TV's, there really isn't any way a person could have mishandled it or wore it out, as opposed to someone playing a console 12 hours a day. After all, you turn the TV on once and just watch it.

If you are buying it from a store, it should come with a warranty. Also check up on the company's warranty policy.
 
Vizios have pretty good policies about deal pixels (if that is what you are worried about) even on refurb units. Warranties are 90 days but I heard if you pay with a VISA CC it doubles to 180 days. You can also buy extended warranties online.
 
Dro i wanted to make the same question about buying a refurb unit, yes they are cheaper and are supposed to have same quality as a brand new one, but 90 days warranty makes me stop and think..... i wonder if somebody here as a refurb and can comment about it

Wait... Vizios only come with a 90 warranty? Even new ones or just refurbs? That's pretty shitty if it's only a 90 day warranty for a new TV.

Anyways, OP, don't let the word refurb bother you. First, do some research on the model and see if a lot of people complain about anything problematic. If you find a lot of negative feedback, then avoid that model (new or used). Otherwise, you should be fine. Refurbs are usually customer returns or fixed units so you will be ok in most cases.

Yeah, I just bought a Vizio L37 refurb from Geeks.com for $500. Warranty is 90 days but geeks.com extends it to 1yr. I got another 1 year extension on top of that because my brother used his American Express card (I think that's what it was) to pay for it. So I basically have a 2 year warranty on it now.

When I got the TV, it was in great condition. No dead pixels or any problems with it. I noticed a little scratch on one corner that was filled in with a black marker but other than that, it basically looked brand new.

If they do, just buy it from Sam's Club since they have a flexible return policy that should safeguard you
 
i bought a refurb philips tube hdtv from their website a couple years back, there were some scrapes on the top of it, but it worked fine and still works now.
