Just rooted my EVO last night and set up the wifi tethering. Everything was working fine, now tonight I keep getting disconnected from PSN randomly.. Just in time for Black Ops right?

I've been searching around on google but no results - haven't really seen many people use the tethering for ps3 / xbox. I'm really confused as to why it's suddenly not working. Didn't change a single setting or anything since last night, and I'm getting really frustrated and would like to figure this out and pick up Black Ops.

Let me know if anyone can point me in the right direction. Thanks!

u try rebooting the phone? maybe sprints having problems?

hows gaming on cell network? lag?
i have the nexus one with native hotspot... speed is pretty fast, but since i have my ps3 wired theres really no point in using cell network to game... especially in FPS games when slight lag can make a differnece:wall:

When it's working the connection isn't great but it's better than nothing - I'm at college and our wifi isn't compatible with the PS3's so I'd like to get this working the best I can if possible.

What?! you can play ps3 games online thru your cellphone? Are 3g/4g really comparable to cable modem? There's gotta be significant lag or something.

I use my n1 for wifi tethering DS games on my DSi (anything above WEP doesn't work for carts) and for web browsing before I got internet at my new place. Works well, but it'd be tough to play online games on it due to the high latency.

OP, depending on your provider, you may be getting your data throttled already if you've been using your cell to play games. That might be a reason why your connection is spotty. I'd suggest if you have access to the router/hardline, you might just wanna daisy chain a cheapy wireless router(I'm presuming you're located far enough where direct hardline to your console would be a problem) and play your games by connecting to your router.

When I was in college, we had T1 lines at our dorms which was pretty dang fast in the olden days, its hard to imagine connections being bad quality nowadays. Good luck though.

On our campus there's only wifi, and the wifi isn't compatible with game systems. Any suggestions on routers to use as a bridge? I have one but it apparently can't use the firmware. Just looking for something cheap.

Incorrect statement. Wifi is wifi and it is highly likely that they are using either G or N. However they are probably blocking the ports used by PSN, Xbox Live, and Wii. My suggestion would be to get your computer up and running and connect your PS3 up to it wired via a router or hard-code IP addresses & a switch. Get some proxy software that will work with a PS3 and on that will do port-address translation (PAT) and not just network address translation (NAT).

I know that Privoxy is a proxy that works with a PC and PS3, but I am not sure if it does PAT.
