It's not the commercials that sold me ("don't call it a phone, it's a helio").

Nor was it the MySpace Mobile feature packed into each phone (woops!).

Just the fact that i get the same amount of minutes i get now, and free night and weekend, AND unlimited 3g internet, text/im/pic messages, and GPS features and such for about 65$ a month. It's tempting to me, but I'm curious before i bite if anyone has any experience with a helio, or with their service.

advice?

EDIT: New phone (jesus christ i did it again) coming out... the Ocean. It's a dual slider and it looks pretty awesome. Still looking for opinions.

I just looked at their site and I'm curious what their service is like, too.

I'm a ways away from my current contract ending, but $65/month for all that seems like a killer deal.

bump... still wondering.

from what i've read so far people have no issue with quality of reception or coverage, but only crap customer service. any input?

First, what you want to do is search your coverage and reliability for SPRINT in your area: Helio [like Virgin Mobile] uses leased Sprint network time. The 'broadband" features work on a leased EV-DO stream. If your coverage/relaibility for Sprint is not good, then chances are your helio won't be much better.

Second of all, what provider are you with? There's truly not much Helio can offer over other phone companies. If you're looking for strictly data, T-Mobile has unbeatable rates. If you want GPS and broadband media, then Sprint/Nextel provide the same exact services with no middleman. And if you want similar broadband content, the VCAST/media service through Verizon should be enough.

I'll just take the time to state, if you consider CDMA phone selections to be limited in anyway, then you'll feel really locked in with a company that only offers two, possibly three devices you can't call phones.

Hey, bumping my own old ass thread...

With the Ocean coming out (the first dual-slider... great reviews so far), wondering if anyone has any more input on either the helio hardware or service. when it comes down to it, an Ocean and an all-in plan will still be substantially cheaper than an iPhone and a full internet plan on that. just considering my options.

thoughts?

I've noticed that i have never seen anyone touting a Helio considering they seem to be the sweetest phones out IMHO. I played around with one in Barnes and Noble at one point and it seemed like it was really fluid and comfortable. In fact I cant wait for my sprint contract to end, the Ocean looks awesome. The interface is clean and while i didnt utilize many of the features i'm sure they were just as impressive.

Hopefully this helps you a little.

I think I am going to pick up the Ocean for my gf since after seeing it in action for a bit I must say, it really is a nice phone. I dont care for the slider part but oh well.

I bought the ocean the day it came out, and its pretty good so far. but if in case you dont like it, just return it ( they have a 30 day money back guarantee)
and you do not get charged any cancellation fee if its during the first 30 days of service

Wildlife artist Les Kouba is originally from my hometown, and WNBA and former University of Minnesota basketball player Lindsey Whalen was in my precalc class in high school.

I've been using helio since October, my model is the drift. I haven't played around with the ocean, but if internet is a big issue, you might want to pass. Most of the sites are not viewable. The speeds are pretty good though, and I haven't had a problem with coverage. I'm in Los Angeles btw
