This would kind of be a last resort for me for my cat allergy. Long story short, I'm allergic to cats and found this out well after I adopted 3 of them. I thought I would be able to control the allergy with regular medication, but I am still getting sick monthly or so with colds due to my overwhelmed immune system. My doctor told me the monthly colds are very likely due to my constant allergen exposure even though I take meds. I was wondering if anyone on CAG has gotten these shots in the past and if they've helped them. I am planning on calling my allergist tomorrow regardless, but I was interested in hearing CAG stories.

When I was younger I had the shots for five years (might have been longer) because I was allergic to just about all the major stuff like dogs, cats, pollen, etc. None of that stuff bothers me much anymore.

I've lived with animals in the various apartments I had through college without any major issue. It takes a lot of animal hair laying around to really cause any kind of allergic reaction (because of the dander). Definitely a huge improvement from extreme sneezing fits, watery eyes, and congestion if a dog was just in the same room with me for a short period of time.

Yeah I don't have major reactions to them in those usual terms. The reactions I get are generally sinus pressure (which has mostly gone away since I got on meds), and then lowered immunity to colds because my immune system is working overtime to protect from the allergies (still have this problem).

If you're taking Claratin or some other allergy medicine, the shots will be a significant improvement over it. I would recommend it, especially if you pan on having these cats for some time.
