Anyone know a good way to quit WoW?

send your account info and CD's to me :) i could use some everquest II distraction. Other than that..... remove PC power supply and have it locked away for about a month... i find that if i can't play a mmo for a month i lose interest....

Get to lvl 60 be forced to join large groups of ppl to do stuff. Get tired of waiting to find big groups of ppl. Remove billing info from wow.com then set back and chill to the expansion comes out. My one gripe with WoW is that the game sucks balls at 60 even if you are in a huge guild its hard to get ppl to help you with all the high level quests and having to get keyed to all the high end instances. That certainly made me quit. I had mad fun until I capped out at 60 then I totally hated the game.

I am level 60 and I have 3 of 8 of my tier 1. I go on raids all the time.

I quit about a year ago and I had full tier 1, working on tier 2. There's really no point to play anymore once you realize you are addicted, because the game really loses its flavor.... If you think about it, there's really no point in playing a game that takes 5 hours (at least for my old guild, some surely take longer or faster) to clear through MC and then not even get anything out of it except for losing your job for not being productive at work.

If you want to quit just quit. Delete the program, sell/give away your cds, cancel your subscription, sell your account, do whatever you need to do.
I am addicted as fuck! Help me please!
I did a full uninstall and deleted EVERYTHING. Seeing as how I had addons and special config files up the wahoo, this move intentionally set my install and reconfigure time somewhere between 18 and 24 hours.

I also did the uninstall/delete with a few weeks of activation left. I then set up a new password and handed the account over to a real-life friend and told him to raid my main and alts for all the mats, gold, and unauctioned gear he could handle. He did as instructed.

In a matter of 3 days, I went from sitting around for hours waiting for 20 dudes to show for a scheduled raid to being entirely out of the game with a full uninstall/delete of WoW from my computer and all of my in-game possessions gone.

EDIT: If you want to be an incredible hard-ass about it, you could delete your characters, too, but that seems like a waste. Selling off the account is okay--I just gave the account away to the real-life friend I mentioned above. He passed it along to his wife, and she's supposedly having fun screwing around with my old main. It's fine by me.
Uninstall it and sell your account on ebay. I made $300.
/ by hours put in

= you hourly wage...
!

It starts with only and hour a day or so

then 4 hours if your lucky

Then 14 hour turns into 24

Next thing you know your selling yourself on the street for that next 3 month account.... :applause:
the 4 step plan:

1) eject disc.

2) stomp disc with heel of shoe til it breaks.

3) go outside. [take wallet]

4) find a stripper.
This game doesn't require the disc to play, only to install...but we get the point.

My advice is get into a high end raiding guild, you'll hate the game then. Between the drama and annoying 14 year olds you'll want to shoot yourself.

QFT.

Start smoking crack cocaine. You'll have to use the 15 bucks a month you were spending on WoW to support your crack habit. Also you can find a crack whore and have sex with her.

Wow, do games like this really have this kind of all-encompassing draw? I'd heard storeis, but didn't know it was a real problem.

I'll second what the others ahve said. If you're that addicted ot it delete the program and get rid of it. Nothing game-wise is worth that kind of time and detachment from the real world.

Games should be a break from real life, not the other way around.

Best of luck to you, though. Breaking addictions can be hard, but usually a distraction helps. Anything outside of computers/games interest you? I'd maybe take up a different hobby for a while as a break.

co-sign with everyone who said get to endgame. from 1 to 59, you have a goal.. to reach 60. when you reach 60, you get into a good guild and raid daily or semi-daily to get better gear.. which starts to feel a lot like going to work once you do it for 309284932084 hours. at this point, you'll be looking for something else to do.. or if you're into the neverending grind for new purples and oranges, then you can pretty much sell your soul to blizzard now.

Take a step back from your life for a moment. Now look at all the things that have been neglected in your life because of WoW. Look at what you've missed, how much money and time you wasted, and what you now have to show for all of it.

Then close your account, turn your back to WoW, and take back your life.

I had to do all this, sadly enough. I got into the game so damn much that I began to want to play it rather than spend time with my wife/RL friends. I had to make a change, so I did. I never looked back. And let me tell you, it is nice.

1. Give all your loot to noobs.
2. Delete your characters from the server. (Important to stop you from coming back. Faced with the task of gettting back to level 60 should put you off for a bit. Concerned about how much time/effort you put into your characters? Remember they are just bits of data that matter not to the "real world.")
3. Uninstall the game.
4. Get rid of the install disks or the .exe installer.
5. Play Guild Wars :) Now theres a game that you can play for 20 mins and still get a lot done story wise.

Also, ignore the fact that an amazing expansion that increases the level cap is coming out soon.

To the OP-- you just have to quit cold turkey and find something healthy to fill the gap where WoW was. That's the only sure-fire method. That's what helped me quit smoking weed :D

It's not an epidemic, but it can be a big problem for certain types of people. just look at China. People's kids die because they neglect them while playing MMOs. Some other dude died of exhaustion from playing an MMO too long. What the fuck is that? I never knew typing and clicking was exhausting, but the guy probably ate McDonald's for every meal and never drank water.

More common is the loss of social life, bad academic performance (everyone knows someone who got kicked out of college because they played WoW and never went to class ever) and general bad health that results from sitting at the computer for too long.

I'm sure a certain sizeable percentage of regular WoW players experiences some of those.

This is why I quit... doing a dungeon that takes 5 hours to do and getting nothing for it was shit.

I don't understand how people can get addicted doing the same things over and over and over and over and over.... it's not like the difficulty ever changes, you're just doing it for maybe that one rare piece of equipment. That's not a game, that's called work, putting in alot of hours for minimal satisfaction.

The idea is that you learn a role, perfect it, and coordinate your play with 39 other players. I'm not defending it, but I'm also not unaware of the attraction of online gameplay. For me, though, once I get past the intimacy of a 5-man instance and into the cacophony of a 40-man raid over Vent, I really dislike the game. There will invariably be the one or two assholes who want to give orders, the other two assholes who want to piss around and cause wipes, etc. It sucks the fun right out of the game.

For people who are incredulous to the attraction of WoW, for me the fun was in playing with 3 or 4 real-life friends and chatting over Vent. We'd kill lots of time pissing around in instances, selectively luring and ganking idiots, having power lvl'ing contests, and other such nonsense. Once a few of us had to drop out, that left me and another guy, and we decided to try raiding. He got hooked bad, I saw right away that it was a clusterfuck and got out.

My old roommate was obsessed with that damn game. I remember parties in the dorm where we wouldn't even see him except when he'd come out to get a beer, then he'd head right back into his room. Eventually he got an apartment, and the addiction was even worse, to the point where I'd go to hang out with him and his roommates, and he would just wave to me without ever taking his headset off! He quit a few times, but never more than a few weeks.

Well eventually, he decided that it had consumed enough of his life. He uninstalled the game, mailed the discs to a friend, and got a life. He ended up getting a girlfriend, but apparently that's not good enough, as he downloaded the game and started sneaking around behind her back playing. They've been together for a few months now, but I don't care: there's something fucking wrong with a guy that would rather play WoW than look at his hot girlfriend who just got out of the shower and is standing there topless waiting for him to take her. True story, she told me herself. And that was when I wept for my buddy's lost manhood.

It should be noted that PRM's buddy is most certainly the exception and not the rule among WoW players. Seeing as how most of those players are 15 years old and itching to fuck, I would think they would have jumped over the keyboard, knocking down a monitor and tower and consequently sending a physically impossible but nonetheless useful for the purposes of this sentence backsurge through the LAN that somehow reached Blizzard's servers and destroys all of Azeroth, to get the poon.

That goes for the gamers over 15, too. Poon wins all.

As long as you're actually playing it ie. having fun. Otherwise its just work.

It was fun up until it wasn't. At which point I sold the game.

Stop paying? lol I quit WoW like 3 months ago. I had 2 lvl 60s. A Undead Rogue and Human Paladin with tier 1 and other epic gear. It's boring end game.. and most of the time, you can't find a good guild that isn't ran by kids.

How far is it from NJ to Utica?

I second Guild Wars btw. Its like methadone for WoW. Sure, its not as good, and isnt really all that addictive, but if you are going crazy looking to cast spells on a monster or poke something with a +7 dagger of stabbiness, it gets the job done.

I lost my good friend Arikado to this game, now he has sex with men to pay for his subscription. I don't want to see the same thing happen to you. Stop now.

If he plays as a Night Elf, you probably could have seen it coming beforehand.

That was the fun part of it for me

This is what you do, delete your main charachter.

Just jack off more. It will lower your sensitivity when you actually get laid because you are not playing WoW anymore, and it will keep you from playing WoW at the same time. It's a great idea, trust me.

KIDS: Gee, Mr. Masturbation, is there anything you can't do?

MM: Not much kids, not much.

I wish I could give better advice other than just try and stop playing, but I really can't.

I got bored with it after a month and a half, and haven't had any urge to go back.

Actually... If you do REALLY wana quit and not just making this topic for some other retarded reason, you can do this so you get banned.

Go in Ironforge/Orgrimmar general chat (depending on alliance/horde), and say this.

"fuck (racial slur, can be for blacks, asians, or mexicans)" and then wala, no more wow!

Did someone say Ban from WOW?

Im the resident expert... Here are my Credentials
velerOWNED.jpg

:bouncy:
The best way and the fastest is yes... to do the racial slurs. You will be knocked right out of the game and you dont have to worry about going back in.

And no I did not do that. We created one of the first mail scams in the game. It wasnt a scam as say prodding the primal curiosity instict. Im sure you guys heard of the one where you got a random item in the mail gift wrapped with the pay to open feature? I kind of thought it up while needing money for the first mount. Well it worked like a charm but ehh... couldnt play. I know it was deserved but it was enetertaining at the time...

And yeah, leave the game while you can... Im a level 41 student... Real life xp is wonders...

This was me have not played in like 4 weeks and dont want to dont even check news and what not any more.

If you want, just read and realize the following to quit wow:

All you do over and over is go to questgiver... get quest... go find mob... kill mob with same 3 or 4 mind numbing button mashes... travel back to questgiver.... rinse, repeat 1000 times....

Same mindless crap over and over and over with different forms to make it look different.

Dungeons can be a diversion but that's the same useless crap over and over too.

How about an ai that's not so freaking dumb that it doesn't just see you and lumber after you immediately.

The ai in this game is wicked dumb and if you look at my point above it's an excercise in the mundane.

There are some creative quests and some interesting things to do but it all turns into the same crap after a while and the best part of all, you loose hours and hours of your life and pay them to do the same thing over and over. They have just duped you into doing it because the questgivers have different names and are in different locations, but if you take the mask off, there all the same and the mobs are dumber than a rock.

Ok try reading the above and thinking about it a few times, worked like a charm for me. : )

Since you have the pc try some intelligent games or games with better ai like FEAR, HL2, Civilization 4, NWN, NWN2 (soon), Oblivion.

Another thing about wow is it really isn't even an rpg. The stories are weak and the questlines are uninteresting. You never get that epic, caught up in a story feeling, you do get that "I have to grind to 40 to get my mount" feeling though.

You get your mount, ride faster to do all the same useless boring crap you did before at a slower pace.

Ok enough of my rant. Good luck. : )
