Anyone pick up Halo 2 yet?

Microsoft is notoriously anal about their street dates - they even send undercover reps to stores to attempt to buy products before street date just so they can fine the store if they do.

I want that job.
You've never heard of secret shoppers before? Its a fairly common job. Companies will hire someone to go "steal" something from one of their stores just to test to see if security picks it up and catches them. They'll send people to go to their restaurants to make sure the service is good. They'll have a secret shopper return an item to the store to make sure the employees taking the return are courteous and do their jobs correctly. Stuff like that.

Anyone else notice that there's only one visible copy of Halo 2: CE?

This troubles me due to the growing rumor that there won't be enough copies of the CE version to go around.

I felt the same way when my district manager told me the other day...she was warning all GR people that if we even touched the boxes before the 9th and were caught we would be fined $200,000 (by Microsoft) and lose our jobs.

I, for one, can wait.
I don't buy it. It's always been the store that gets fined for breaking street date, not the employees.

I know here for DVDs and such the fine is $200k, and they will basically limit sending items to the store, or cut off the supply enitrely. I heard at the worst the employee will get fired, I've never heard of a company going after an employee asking them to pay $200k.
Anyone know what happedned to EB for violating the ROTK street date

fuck secret shoppers. If you work at a game store, you cna get away with selling them the game early. Tell them not to go online with it, and they will be fine.

No, that's probably just a paper fold-over insert thingy they put on top. I can't explain it well, but it's not reflecting.

Can someone answer my question tho?

Whoever has sold those games before Nov. 9th is going to get fired, or in serious trouble at least. Halo 2 is a street dated title, meaning nobody is supposed to have in before the 9th.

Wow really? I think you're the first person to say that in this thread. Thanks for the info man!

Cripes, that's for the employee..not the store.

You got the cash? I know I sure has hell dont.
shaq-fu...that's worse than selling cigarettes to a minor!
he wasnt even sposed to be there that day tho
I remembered when that happened. The parent company of New Line which I think is Time/Warner stopped doing business with EB. They said in the article that 'it was the worst abuse of a street date they had ever seen.' I'm paraphrasing of course.
I know some store some where WILL break the street date.
I got my copy of Midtown Madness 3 a week early at a Wal-mart.
When I was being checked out it wouldn't scan because it wasn't suppose to be sold yet, I told them that I was in a bit of a hurry and they were making me late for work with all the rescanning they were trying and finally they just rang it up just as an electronics purchase for that price.
If Walmart sold me Halo 2 a week early, I would take it home then I will call Microsoft and tell them what happened. I hate Walmart and I would like nothing better than pitting two corporate giants against each other.

I would be kinda-like Clint Eastwood in a Fistfull of Dollars except in a modern corporate sense.

Ok, actually I guess my DM is a bit dingy because she gave me wrong info.

It's not $200,000...it's $2,000 for each game sold, plus you lose your job.
No dude...not the store, that's for the employee.
hahahaha that's funny...good luck collecting 200k from an employee who makes $5.50 an hour!/

There is someone on EBAY selling one. He claims to have two in hand alraedy due to a mix-up in shipping.

It's over $55 right now....I have a feeling that someone will still get it on Nov.9th. He'll probably pick it up on release date, then mail it next day air. Sheesh...I should do that. The auction ends in 5 days also....thus, that's the 7th/8th. People are DUMB

I should e-mail him and ask for a picture of the game.

I'm sure plenty of copies will make their way into store employees homes before the street date. There's always a way.

Also, wouldn't you think that at least one store would release the game at $48.99 or $47.99? It would definitely increase sales. People drive across town to save 2 cents a gallon on gas.......

Uhm, no.

Not everyone is as cheap as the people on these forums. Most don't care what the price is, they just want the game. Hell, you could probably charge $59.99 for Halo 2 and it'd still sell in the millions.

why would a store want to discount something, when they could easily sell out at the msrp...that is just throwing money away

so are stores doing pre-order pick ups? like i heard some folks were getting their GTA:SA on monday at 7p.m. if they pre-ordered it....or are stores waiting till midnight?

To create a monopoly ala Walmart. Although my local Walmart never posts any DVD sale prices you can almost guarantee that they'll be just a bit lower than CC or BB when it comes to the week's big releases.

Yes, but is saving $0.10 really worth shopping at WalMart. Everytime I go in there, I just hate it.....even the parking lots suck balls

I go simply because it's much closer to me than CC or BB. I couldn't care less about how big they are or how many stores they have. I'm not trying to save the world. Sure I'm not going to buy something at Walmart if it's $5 cheaper somewhere else but if the price is the same convienence will always win out.......
Most stores are doing the midnight thing....thus, right after Monday Night Football next week you can get it....
Yeah, I will be at that MNF game. Are stores going to open at midnight and stay open until their normal closing time that day?
Hmmm. I don't know if I like the collector's edition. Where's the bonus disc?
Probably just comes in a paper sleeve that stores behind the manual.

MKD was that way. That's ass, IMHO.

Hey Rodego,

Which of our teams with choke on MNF? After dismal performances by both teams, this game loses some luster. Oh well, win or lose, Halo will be out next day.
What the hell? I didn't know they were gonna put the Xbox logo on the CE. That looks pretty shaq-fuing stupid.
Maybe I'm wrong, but it looks like the Logo is just a cardboard fitting under the sealing plastic.

They packaged the PS2 version with two cases, they should have done the same for the Xbox version. That is ass

I agree.

not bs. Most blockbusters have them in. If your cool like me and know some one who works for them you may get to get it early! I hope my sis in laws store gets some in tonight so i can play early legally! ( I didn't downloaded it!)

I am not sure who will win. If Moss doesn't play, the Colt's chances are a lot better. I like both teams though, so I won't complain either way. Hopefully it will just be a good game.

Your sister in law giving it to you early is illegal.....

BS. Most Blockbusters don't have them in. The truck usually comes in Tuesday afternoon or Wednesday morning.. they then put the games out on Friday.

Around here, anyways.

People act like there is some government law against selling something before street date. Theres not. Microsoft has no authority to force anyone to even pay a fine, although most stores would prefer to pay the fine rather than be cut off from receiving future Microsoft merchandise. Any threats about fining employees is just a bluff. Some random employee that gets fired after breaking street date would have no incentive to pay anything and can't be forced to by anyone.

puzznic you could not be further from the truth... You get games from MS as a retailer, certain contracts are signed. All the time they outline "penalties" for selling games early or contract breech. You have a written contract outlining the fines and terms that is arranged with a retailer and a publisher. Thus if you sell a game early you are in the wrong outlined in the written contract that your company worked out with the publisher.

Yeah, if thats on the contract than your definitely right about that. I still highly doubt any single employee would be on the hook for anything though.

Unfortunatly, The employee is under contract too. If the company says if you sell this game before X date and X time your fired. Then you have been warned, if you do sell the game before they say it is ok then you violate your contract with the company and your ass is tossed. I work for EBgames and 3 people got fired in my district for selling GTA early. One sold it 15 mins early. LOL and he was a manager, what a dumbass

Yeah, you would definitely get fired but i was saying that they really couldn't force you to pay the employee fine of $200,000 or $2,000 that was talked about earlier in the thread.

Yes they could. Microsoft sets the dates. They can do that. That's like saying that there would be no action taken against you if you bought a bootleg of a movie that wasn't coming out for 3 more months. The studios set the dates, the companies set the dates.. they can prosecute and they would win.
