This looks like an awesome fighter for the DS, combining many characters from various mangas in Jump magazine.

The game is looking quite tempting.

What is the chance of this coming to the US and what is the release date in Japan? And how much do you think it will cost to import? I'm very interested in this game (big fighting fan) and may possibly import.

I think the japanese release date is August 8th, the same day the red DS comes out in Japan.

It has a slim-to-minimal chance of coming out in the US, since it would require many different companies and licenses, unlike in Japan, where only one company has the manga licencing (sp?).

I think www.lik-sang.com has it for preorder for $48-50, dunno about the shipping. I didn't check any other import sites.

Yeah I will probably import this then, hopefully it's not too text heavy. Fighting is one of my top genres and I'm dying for some DS fighters.

If Nintendo doesn't announce plans to bring it over between now and then, i'll import. As for license difficulty in America, I don't think it would be so hard. Jump magazine exists here as well and features all these mangas. I could be overlooking something though.

Different companies own the rights to different licenses for the video games in the US.

I know Atari has the rights to Dragonball Z, I think, and the rest would have to be licensed out which would be more of a hassle.

Konami has the rights to Shaman King, also, as well as Yu-Gi-Oh. I assume they'd have to get the ok from companies in the US to use the characters.

Yep. That'll do it. Oh well, i'm positive that this will end up being the #1 imported game on the DS then. Unless Nintendo or another company feel like going through all the trouble.

Gotta bump this topic and ask where people are pre-ordering this at?

I know of lik-sang and play-asia but I was wonderning if there are any US sites will be selling the game on it's August 8 release date.

same here. I want this but want the best deal.

dont forget there is a pre order gift for the first 100K, might be a bit late since the pre order have reached 300K.

I would think that this game would be like Smash, in that you really need people to get the full experience. So as much as I would like to play it, I may have to pass.

As I understand it:

Shonen Jump in America is fully owned and operated by Viz, and only shows Viz owned licenses. You won't seen anything by Tokyopop or Black Horse in "Shonen Jump" magazine in America.

In Japan, Shonen Jump will either broker a deal with a manga creation conglomerate like Bandai or get things straight from the small little manga-ka group, like Monkey Punch. Part of the agreement THERE is that they retain certain rights. This is why Jump Baseball was created for the NES in 1990.

I'd say the chances of a U.S. release are virtually non-existent. They would require some crazy deals being made. Not to mention that MOST of the characters are going to be unfamiliar to most everyone. Sure, you could emphasize Goku or anyone thats ever been on the Cartoon network on the cover, and it'll probably do alright though.

holy shit, that game is gonna sell a trillion copies, even if plays like shit

This game has been sounding amazing. I've been following it for a while. Even DL'd the trailers/teasers from Gamesarefun.com, but I can't seem to get them to work for some reason. No player so far will work with them, from DivX, Winamp, Quicktime, it just can't seem to work.

Oh and yes, I plan to import this game since it probably will never get a release in America. The thing just sounds so bad ass and awesome so far, not to mention it's a dream come true with all of those characters in it.

they would be kinda dumb not to, with Naruto coming out here and all. I bet this game sells DS' like Nintendogs. japan will shit a brick over it

It's too much of a licensing nightmare in the US, don't expect it over here anytime soon, regardless if Naruto is coming.

anyone know if this game will be hard to play in Japanese? I just saw a rad trailer for the game on IGN, and I definitely interested in importing this :)

it shouldnt be that hard since this isnt a text heavy game. Even if there is a problem you can probably look up a translation online.

just pre-ordered it today, though i heard that orders are already being shipped out. Hope that I won't have to wait too long to get it :)

I'm going to import this game once I get a report from a fellow CAG. If it's too text-heavy, I'm gonna import Electroplankton. But I'd rather get Jump, since it has a lot slimmer opf a chance to make it here than Electroplankton does, which will most likely come over here.

So...gimme a report, guys! When you get it, that is...

Agreed.

Wtf, did you watch the trailer?

Pre-ordered today from yesasia.com, 'cause the cheap price is more important to me than getting it next week. There's no way this comes out in the US, for the same reason we haven't seen a Super Robot Wars game (which would be easier to obtain licenses for AND features more familiar characters).

$43 shipped for this game is an awesome price, thanks for pointing me toward yesasia.com . Here's the link for anyone that may be interested

I wonder if this cheap price will hold on until after release. I'm stirctly prohibiting myself from preordering since I don't want to run into a language barrier.

I've had the game pre-ordered for a while at Play-Asia, and it recently shipped, but I chose one of their really cheap shipping options so it'll be a while before the game actually gets into my hands and ultimately into my Nintendo DS.

As for the "pre-order bonus," I ordered that book that they [Play-Asia] have just in case I don't get it with my game. If I actually do, I can just return the extra book I ordered.

go Sanji!

i'll probably import it a week or two from now so i can see some reviews and what-not. great looking game though, with one of the widest variety of characters i've seen.
so you consider that text heavy?
Did you see all the customation text. And it looks like you have to customize those comic strips.
Did you see all the customation text. And it looks like you have to customize those comic strips.
They aren't comic strips. It's actually more like a card battling system to supplement the traditional SSB-style fighting. The cards, of varying shapes and sizes, representing battle, support, and help characters are arranged on a 4x5 grid (which limits the number of cards--bigger, more powerful cards take up more room).

Since there is already a FAQ up on gamefaqs describing what each card does (in very basic terms) I'm guessing I won't have any trouble using them.

this game got my money and because of all the licenses, no way in hell it'll make an appearance in the US. it'll be like I'm 5 playing video games again--don't know what im doing but still damn fun.

Just got this from Nintendo now. Look at this. Odds if this coming stateside just went up a notch. Damn. This thing slaughtered the competition. Sold more
in a day then some games have sold so far all year in Japan. This almost deserves it's own thread.

Jump Super Stars Starts with a Bang
First impressions mean a lot, luckily this game made a very good impression.

Nintendo has recently released their Super Smash Brothers "clone", Jump Super Stars, which consists of many characters from different animes all fighting each other. On the first day the game was released, it has managed to sell over 320,000 copies! Japan must really love anime, because this game is flying off the shelves.

Stay tuned to Nintendo Now for more updated sales figures.
