Anyone play Kartia?

CAGiversary!
I was looking through used games and saw Kartia, which was made by Atlus. I didn't get to look at the back of the case. How does it stack up against the other Atlus games?

It's a tactics style rock/paper/scissors game. Nothing great. Pretty art by Amano, but other than that, very forgettavle

Is that Kartia: Cards of Fate or something like that? I haven't played any other Atlus games (at least none I can think of at the moment), but I enjoyed Kartia. I never got to beat it because I got into playing Metal Gear around that time. It's sort of like FF Tactics except the fighting system seems deeper.

How much did you see it for? If it's around $10, I'd recommend you pick it up.

I loved this game. There are two main characters whose stories overlap, so you have to play twice to get the full story. THe magic sytem is very deep. Each card you find is a rune for a noun or element. You combine cards any way you see fit, limited by your mana points and the skill of your characters, to make custom spells, items, and monsters, which serve as troops. The monsters you make carry over from battle to battle and level up and can get items. The items you can make are great, because you can, for example, combine a healing card with a fire card, and a sword card to make a flaming sword that heals you everytime you hit something. It doesn't have the charm or humor of disgea, but the story was decent and as I said, I totally enjoyed the game.

Yeah, it is versus, but if the other person has a save file, you can each bring your custom armies, and you can trade items between save files.

I recommend it. The story and characters are engrossing, and the magic system, as described earlier is somewhat unique. It's the only "monster" game I've played yet where I've found the actual "monsters" to be a benefit to the game. (For instance, was it necessary to have the magic come from bugs in Golden Sun, or Sword of Mana?) I think it's because in this game, it's another way of gathering troops, and not just "gotta catch 'em all".
