I am about an hour into it so far and I am liking it okay. I don't have a burning desire to play but it isn't boring me to death so far either.

Anyone further in have any impressions of it?

I used to have the japanese version (Boktai 3) and posted the comparison screenshots here. After that I sold it since I can't read japanese and can't understand anything in the game, so I sold it to get Wario Master of Disguise (now Wario has also been ditched). When the english version came out (Luna Knight), seeing many good reviews (1up even said that this one is the best a-rpg on DS), I decided to re-acquire the game (this time I bought the english version, of course  ). Now I've played it for 10-12 Hrs, and I can say that it's a very good game (even if the graphic isn't a big leap, compared to its GBA counterparts).

There are 2 things I don't like:
1. There are too many talks, and most of them are in not appropriate time; on the top of that you can't skip the conversation; all you can to is holding B to pass all the text (like in the first stage of Aaron (spelling ?) before you have to fight that lion boss, there are too many "may the sun shine in your heart" and I can't skip it. If I get killed, sitting through it many times is very tedious.

2. I don't like the lag when changing from attack to defence. I mean, when I attack (by shooting or slashing) I have to wait for the characters to finish its animation before I can do any other things. Sometimes (infact, many times) I wanted to have my shield up immediately because I saw an attack coming, but unfortunately I couldn't do it, even if B button was being pressed at the time. This is because my "slash" animation hasn't finished yet. I want it to be like Ninja Gaiden: you can block anytime and anywhere. If I press the block button, I'll have my character's defence up no matter what animation he is doing at that time (forgive me for comparing a Ds game with an Xbox game, but I only give you an example of "instant block").

Not having that feature, I have to play it safe by hitting enemies 2 hits at a time, and then step back and raise my shild, waiting for it to attack and then having my counter attack. Repeating this process can be tedious.

That aside, I think this game is still a solid game, since I can still find many good things in it.

I'm enjoying it. I'm finding it to be pretty average but I'm only a few hours in. I'm hoping after I level up and gain a few new abilities things will pick up.

I was really disappointed with it, and it seems from the other responses in the thread that most people seem to agree that it is average. I guess I was just expecting to much from it, but I played it for a few hours and just came away underwhelmed. I haven't touched it since.

This game would have to have sex with me to convince me to buy it after the Boktai 2 debacle.

Rei, who is that lass in yer sig? I presume it is an SW chick...

You're right. It's Oichi from Samurai Warriors 2.

Explain?

Well, you see, when a man and game cart love each other very much and they want to express that love...

Played for a little while... using it as taking a break from Hotel Dusk which at this point im fusterated with. Its nice to actually DO something although I am tired of talking in videogames. I want voice and to do it itself. I hate hitting a button to show im done reading or to make it go faster.

The Boktai Paradox, my friend: Without sunlight, you cannot play the game.
With sunlight, the screen has glare.
With glare, you cannot play the game.

Thus, you cannot play the game with sunlight, and you cannot play it without.

Lunar Knight's has changed must of the frustration of the previous titles.
You don't need actual sunlight to play this game. Only in-game sunlight and moonlight.. There are two characters, in this game. One that relays on the sun and the other relays on the moon. Most of the bosses require a mixing of sun and moon based attacks to conquer them but its not rare if you can relay on one character to defeat them. I, myself, don't bother using the solar character unless the sun's out (His guns won't work unless you have solar power). The lunar character can still attack without any lunar energy. Also the touch screen is well intergreted into the game play.

Sure Lunar Knight's isn't revolutionary and it isn't going to blow your mind. But it's a great game that has been well planned and executed! I have it. My brother and I are half way thru it. And we're very happy with it. Well worth its price and has replay value (if you are the dungeon crawler sort such as me).

Well, I guess I'm in the minority, but I've logged about 12 hours in Lunar Knights and I'm enjoying it quite a bit. The weapons are cool and there's a good balance between the two characters (besides the fact that one uses melee weapons and the other uses guns). The drive to upgrade your weapons, stats, and accessories -- the key to any good RPG, action or otherwise -- is certainly there. And I like the use of weather and sun/moon on the top screen. The terrenial (kind of like gods of the different elements) system and climate aspect can get a bit confusing, but does add to the game. The story is all over the place, but the cutscenes and voice samples are pretty neat.

Has anyone used one of the original Boktai cartridges in the bottom slot while playing? It supposedly gives you a big advantage (assuming you're playing near some sunlight) and will also unlock some music tracks and/or missions that you can't get otherwise.

Even with DS Lite?

I have Boktai 1, I just haven't played it yet.

I have no idea how the thing worked but I believe in both Boktai games there was light sensor in the game itself or something. So I do believe that you'd also have to play in sunlight even with a DS (Lite). Why somebody hasn't released non-sensor versions of these games, beats me.

but this morning it rained HARD so I'm hoping something good happens!!!

anyway the hard part about playing it with the cart in the bottom slot is that your shadow blocks out the sunlite!!!

u gotta play it at sum kinda angle, which is kinda awkward

I know that the sensor is on the cartridge, but what I mean is, you should have no problem playing a DS Lite in the sun.

Ive played it for about 5 hours so far, and agree with everyone saying that is feels average. There really is nothing special to the game, and changing the weather seems like a chore.

Well then I would say the New SuperMario Bros is below average.
Lunar Knights is an above average game that I like to play in 30 minute bursts. It really is a great game if you are an oldschool fan. May the sun be with you!

I usually played it on my Gameboy Player, with a Wavebird and the Gamecube on a windowsill
