CAGiversary!
think ing about droping the old land line and had some questions?

1. do you still pay the crazy fcc taxes?

2. I have a dish network dvr that needs to be plugged into a phone jack...will it work with vonage?

If you have vonage please let me know what the quality is like, is it qwerky, etc...

I use Vonage and I've experienced very little problems. I've had it for a little over a year, and I think once the service was down for almost a day (I just used my cell). And rarely, while talking you can hear an echo, or it sounds tinny. I've had that happen about 3 times in a little over a year.

I'm actually on the $14.99 plan, and when I do go over the 500 minutes, it's still usually cheaper than the $24.99 plan.

I have friends and family that have Vonage. All Vonage to Vonage calls are free.

There is a huge VOIP thread from last year. Run a seach on the word VOIP and you will find it.

I saw on the news that when you call 911 with vonage, it reroutes you somewhere else,
there were lawsuits and all kinds of that shit, so they should have fixed the problem, but you should still make sure ahead of time

I have Sunrocket, and have been very happy so far. I've only had it for over a month, but the sound quality has been excellent. It sounds better than my GSM cell phone, and I can't honestly tell the difference between this and a POTS analog line. There has been one time so far where I wanted to make a call and Sunrocket service was down. It only lasted 20 minutes, but it still was an annoyance. But for 200 bucks a year (no crazy taxes whatsoever), caller ID, call waiting, *69 -- and all that busines, and two free 2.4GHz phones, I guess I can't complain too much.

Oh yeah, from what I've read you can't do this normally with VOIP, since your Dish Network box has a modem and is dialing out. However, there is a lot of information out there about workarounds that you might be able to do. I suggest googling: 'voip, tivo, phone, jack' for more information. (I know you said Dish Network, but there's a lot of info from the Tivo community, and it's the same process with that service.)

You have to give them your physical address when you register. Takes about 5 minutes. And if you ever move, you have to update your file, of course.

I have a Tivo hooked up through a wireless network. You probably would have to do it wireless.

I checked that site out and think I am going to get that service over the weekend. It costs us 70 dollars a month for our telephone service and 50 a month for internet (which only I use) so this should be a great way to save money on our phone bill and get more use out of our internet service.

We just got SKYPE and its really good. since my dad goes to asia alot for business its cool we can talk to him for like .01 a min. He's also working with some other new VOIP thats gonna take off.
