I see you can get a sandisk for about $87 from Amazon...not exactly an amazing price but as the prices fall with the 16gb out in the wild I might pick one up down the line. I'm wondering if anyone is using an 8gb and had any issues.

$87 for an 8GB not an amazing price?.... *smack* ...I paid $150 for mine!

But it's been working like a charm. I don't know what the hubbub over compatibility issues is because I haven't had any. At that price, I would definitely go for it.

Eh, if it is already down to $87...just hold off for the next big holiday sale period. I have a 4 GB right now which i paid $50 for but i definitely want an 8 GB so i'm waiting for them to hit $50 :D

I think most of the compatibility issues for different brands of memory sticks stem from using custom firmware. If you just plan on using the regular legit Sony fimware then any brand should work fine.

Yeah, $50 is the sweet spot for me as well.

I should have pointed out that I am indeed running custom firmware. Hence the need for a bigger memory stick, heh heh... ;)

I got my 8 gig while I was at 3.52 M33 firmware and am currently up to 3.90 M33-2. No problems to report so far. Granted, older firmware will probably have some issues with it as the 8GB needed a later firmware to work with the PSP.

I can't think of which exact firmware it was though, but if you have at least 3.52 you should not have any issues. Maybe someone with a bit more time on their hands can research the exact firmware version required, I gotta head off to work, like, right now.

I would imagine the convenience of having just one memory card? Swapping cards in and out could be annoying to some people. I personally hate carrying around extra stuff. I just carry my PSPhat in its logitech case and I'm good. I don't have an 8GB card though, just 4GB. Waiting around for it to drop in price some more as the others have mentioned.
Considering how small the cards are...i definitely don't want to be swapping them out often.
Yeah it's really a convenience thing...I'll probably hold out for around $50 or less as well.

Agreed, swapping ruins the portability.

This is may be a bit off-topic, but since you guys must be copying gigs and gigs back and forth, I thought I'd ask: Can anyone recommend a reliable MSPD reader? I've got a generic multi reader that works most of the time but disconnects mid-transfer more than I'd like. It could also be my card (4GB SanDisk), but I've never had any problems with it once it's in the PSP.

I dont know about you guys but my PSP case has 2 slot for memory card. I have no trouble carry around 2 4GB cards, and it takes like 10 seconds to switch them.

I'm going to beat the dead horse a bit more... it's just more convenient to have one memory stick. I just hate having to switch memory sticks in and out more than I have to.

Just to be a douchebag, the argument for 2x4GB vs 1x8GB is that if one card goes bad, you only lose half your stuff. This at least is the argument made often in the world of digital photography where it often is wiser to get 2 or more cards of smaller capacity (say 2x4GB or 4x2GB vs 1x8GB) because if a card craps on you before you have had a chance to download the pics, you will only lose some and not all the photos you took.

I suppose that's true. I'm sort of anal though. Anything on my PSP memory card is still on my computer harddrive. I back up my saves regularly and such :).

Same here, I back-up regularly so losing a memory stick won't be that devastating. Two memory sticks just means twice the work when you update programs, swap files, or put new homebrew on there.
Why buy 8GB when you could get 2 4 GB for way cheaper.
And why buy 2 4GB when you can get 16 512MB for waaay cheaper than that?

I had no idea that there were 16GB sticks out there... I thought the PSP could only handle up to 8GB or did they change this somehow in a firmware update? I have 2 2GB sticks and it's a pain in the ass to be honest. When the 8GB ones hit $50 I'll probably upgrade...

I think they just update the PSP's firmware in order to handle the larger capacity cards. It might not work on older firmwares but I'm sure if you have the latest it should be fine.

Well, I'm running 3.90 M33-2 so I assume I'm OK in that department. CFW is a godsend.

Because many files are larger than 512MB.

Ummm, my post was directed as sarcasm towards a previous poster...you fail at message boards. :(
