Anyone currently using AT&T U-Verse? I'm looking for testimonials basically, positive and/or negative. I'm considering switching since we are currently paying for Cox Basic channels ($11/mo) and the 'fastest' cable internet ($54/mo) in the area. Just wondering if there's a distinct advantage price-wise (and value-wise, basic TV sucks) if I were to go with U-Verse over Cox.

To sum it up, I'm currently paying around $65 a month for just the local channels + cable internet.

I'm wondering how much the basic package + good enough internet for online gaming would be for U-Verse, and if it's mostly suitable enough for Xbox 360 gaming. I don't want to be lagging up the rest of the group with slow-ass "interwebz" connections.

Let me know what U-verse package you're running and what you think of it.

I'm using AT&T u-verse and haven't had many problems.

Only thing I could think of is sometimes there are lags/freezes on the television side, but that's a rarity now.

As for the X-Box live aspect, zero problems...I have a little better than basic and I use wi-fi adapter and all is well.

hope my little insight is good enough :)

When I lived with my grandma, I had U-Verse for about a year. I never had any problems. Good channels on TV (200 level package) and internet was enough to download all my games and whatnot. I only played Live for about a month (maybe a few hours a week), but I never noticed any problems. I would recommend it. We would have it at my house now, but it's not in my area yet.

Being on DirectTV for almost 6 years now, ATT is trying to lure me to to cable as well, since i have ATT internet.

They offered me a 30 day trial (along with $300 of Visa gift cards - OP might want to look into this). They came and hooked it up early Sept. So far so good, HD feed is just as good as Direct TV, but i can't see anything that would make me say one is better than the other. HD channel selection doesn't matter much to me, as long as sports and discovery/history channel are.

My internet connection does seem a bit more stable since they added a "dry line" to my house. I currently have Elite internet, which is 6Mb down/ 1MB up. Which is more than enough for gaming/torrents.. No issues whats so ever.

Besides the Visa gift cards, i have seen ads for Pro Internet (3mb down) for $15. Im sure they will also offer you a good price on TV, as its part of there Uverse package obviously. When/if you contact them, be informed with what there current promos are. The more informed you have, the more you can use it at your advantage and intellectually "hassle" them for the best deal.

Used U-verse for just 3 months earlier this year. Channel selection is awesome but you pay $7 for each additional box you have connected to the service. Internet speed was great. Phone service was bad. Had people telling me I wasn't answering calls yet on my end I was hearing no ring.

Lags and freezes were a daily occurrence. You may ONLY visually see the effect on TV but when you lift up the phone handset -- DEAD, gateway router/modem flashes RED, ....Internet is non-responsive. That would last up to a minute of more.

If you had something recording on DVR during that time. You recorded a frozen picture.

Finally had to get away from it with a monthly bill near $180. I even had to call after a month just to initiate the promotion I was promised to get the $400 gift cards. They arrived 7 weeks after installation during which time I was advised to NOT make any changes to service or I could forfeit a portion of the rebates.

They may have made some upgrades while I've been away but I'm in no hurry to go back.

I don't personally use U-Verse, but when I lived back in Wisconsin, one of my friends used it. The TV was pretty good but the internet was awful. He paid the same price for his DSL as I did for my faster cable internet and his internet constantly dropped packets and was just pretty crappy in general. They seemed to throttle him quite a bit as well during peak hours (5PM-8PM) as his Vent ping would go from 40 all the way up to 500 or so, which is pretty bad.

I've had their 18MB internet service for over a year, and had their cable service for about 6 months.

I only got rid of the cable because I realized I didn't need an expensive TV service when Netflix was 10 bucks a month. Returning the hardware for the TV service was a snap, I just had to go to the nearest UPS store with the return info, and they packaged/shipped it no problem, and at no cost to me.

The internet service has been awesome, no downtime that I've noticed (I spend a lot of time online gaming), and the download speeds are very consistent.

I'd definitely recommend them, even though it is a little pricey.

Thanks for the feedback.

I'll definitely look into it... I had previously used Verizon DSL and had no problem whatsoever, but having moved twice since then, I am no longer in their service area, so my choices are limited to Cox and at&t.

I have it for phone and interent, can't comment on the television side. I've got the 18 mbit connect, which was actually lower until earlier this year, they increased the speed for free.

I have Uverse now since March.

I have the 300 TV package, home phone and mid-level internet. I've had no real issues that I can speak of. TV is good, internet is quite fast, and home phone works fine.

Only issue I ever had was during the Eagles/Jaguars pre-season game, the entire second half of the game hd a frozen screen. Not sure if that was the station or Uverse though as everythign else was fine.

does att offer 18mbit internet? i had them earlier this year and they only offered 6mbits on paper (4mbit actual).

I have been using Uverse for the past 2 years. I have the U300, HD package, and sports package. For the internet, I have the Ultimate "I think". My bill is ~ $120/month.

LOVE:
The TV DVR is excellent. It is great to record TV shows, 5 at a time. It is also great that I can watch recorded shows anywhere in my house. The HD is nice with no pixelation or latency.
The internet is also great. I use the wireless function to connect my three computers, my two iphones, my two xboxes, and my two PS3s. I have been able to run all devices concurrently, with little to no lag.
The customer service is also really good. I get English Speaking American operators with little to no hold time. I have only needed to contact them 3 times in the past 12 months. 2 of those contacts were to add 3 Free Months of HBO/Showtime (promotion that runs twice a year).

HATE:
Whenever the modem needs to be reset, it takes 4-5 minutes to reboot. Not a big deal, since the box only goes dead when we lose electricity.
