Apple Game Center

Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games support this.

General iOS FAQ

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday. Most notably is the fact that many developers discount their apps for Christmas and because Apple employees, in charge of App Store changes, take a break during the week of Christmas these discounts usually last until the new year.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Apps can be re-downloaded from your iOS device. To do this open the App Store and look for a tab called "Purchased". From here you can re-download any previously purchased apps.

6. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores and receiving cards as gifts are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

7. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

8. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

9. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

10. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

Games by Genre as Recommended by Fellow CAGs

Feel free to add games, genres or move titles as needed. This list is to give CAGs a chance to catch up on high-quality games they may have missed and to get new users started on "can't miss" titles to download for their new iDevice.

Green titles are universal (ipad and iphone/ipod touch).
Italic are iPad only.
^ are retina optimized for the iPad.
* are iPhone 5/5th gen iPod Touch optimized.
Some game developers/companies like to offer free versions which are usually demos of the full version and a great way to check out and determine if you will actually like a particular game without paying anything. These demos are noted as such. Some game developers/companies like Zynga, however, like to offer free, AD-Supported, versions of their games which means you get the full game, but it features ads and by buying the paid version you remove those ads. AD-Supported games are noted as such.

Why would we do that if it's going to be available to everyone in a day or two?
And we wouldn't be able to play it if we were signed into our normal accounts, we'd have to switch between them every time.

Looks like all Gamevil games are free (zenonia, ect) Sorry I don't have acess to links right this moment.

Just released:

Deus Ex: The Fall (Universal): $6.99

Kotaku put it over as a good game. Much as I love the series, I think $5 is my magic price point.
iPad 3 and above ... damn it ... it's finally happened ... sigh

... and the conspiracy goes deeper ... it has ipad mini support, which people are saying is equivalent to ipad 2 ...

Oh, and get this, supposedly it has built in software that checks if your device is jailbroken and disables game features if it is ... WTF is happening!?

-edit- hmm, supposedly one of the devs posted on Touch Arcade and iPad 2 support will be added within a few weeks ... but still .. man, I hate when devices start hitting their expiration date ...

I'm playing it just fine after switching back :roll: . If you want to wait for it then by all means, please feel free to do so

How exactly do I do this?
I just tried to change my store, but I can't since I have a balance in my Apple ID account. It said I need to spend it all before I change regions.

In iTunes (on your computer), go the iTunes store, click on your username (email address) in the top bar on the left, click on 'Account' and the 4th item down under "Apple ID Summary" is Country/Region. A blue button to "Change Country of Region" is on the right.

Good luck! I wish I could, but I'll have to wait a few more hours.

EDIT***

I see now this was posted yesterday, but still a great deal nonetheless ;)

Heads up

I was contemplating buying Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic yesterday for 9.99 for my iPad.
I finally buckled today and said I would pay it.

I tracked it down and it is currently listed as 4.99.

Don't know how long it will last so you might want to jump on that price.

This will show you how to do it with a new account. I just used google maps to locate a street address.

I can't decide if I should buy Knights of the Old Republic or not. In the past few weeks I've owned my ipad there's been 2 different situations regarding sale purchases. The first is what happened with infinity Blade 2 where it went on sale and then was free a week later, the next possibility is like what happened with Baldur's Gate Enhanced where it went on sale and then was unceremoniously taken down a short time later. I'm feeling like $5 isn't really too much but I'm gonna be kind of ticked if this thing drops to free or $.99 in the next week or two...

LOL, same thing happened to me with IB2. I bought it last week when it dropped to 99c and this week is free. At least I snagged several quality games that went free, like Fight Control HD and AB Star Wars HD.

I always look up the price history on appshopper, if it's the best discount available, I snag it, if it's been cheaper, I wait.

I just snagged a copy of KoTOR!

Enjoy!

I bought it on launch for full price, and while it's a little annoying that it goes on sale now, I'm glad I did. Worth every penny. And maybe if it does well, it will help lead to KOTOR 3 finally.

Dammnit, I just caved in and bought KOTOR three days ago for full price D:

I jumped at the $5 price. Aspyr, the company that ported it, has several other big title games they could potentially port, biggest being Civ IV or V for me, so I wanted to give them a sale to maybe convince them to port over more games.

Just because its the lowest its ever been doesn't mean it won't be lower the next week (like infinity blade 2...)

I would crap for Civ IV. Well, I'll crap regardless, but I'll crap extra for Civ IV.

I doubt KoTOR will be cheaper than $5. It's one of the titles they are trying to price higher. Of course I could be wrong. LOL!

For the record, the game plays great on my iPad 2. No problems at all (I bought it full price a while back).

Catan and Catan HD have dropped from $5 to $3.

I was just considering it the other day and this nudged me to jump.

Between random sales in the App store and steam i'm going broke quicker than ever.

Didn't notice Deus Ex was iPad 3 and above, so thanks for the tip. I have me an iPad 2. And an iPhone 5, but I can't imagine playing a game like that on it.

A bullet-hell shmup that was on my list, Storm Strikers, is now free for the first time. iPhone only. It's by the Danmaku Unlimited dude(s?).

Nope it's a universal iOS, I downloaded the game to my iPad 2. :bouncy:
Not universal. Universal means designed for both iPhone and iPad (requires programmer to design separate GUI for each). All iPhone apps run on iPad, but GUI does not fill screen like an iPad or universal app would.

I'm going to pick up KotOR tonight. I've had $20 in my account since last year and this seems like a good way to spend at least some of it. I will probably have more of a chance to play it on the ipad than I will on the PC.

So it begins... Pretty soon, my iPad 2 will be obsolete and even though I have a huge app backlog, I will be wanting the newest iPad for the new hot apps.

Just going by what Appshopper said (iPhone vs. iOS Universal). Doesn't mean it won't work on iPad, but it's not optimized for iPad. It doesn't always matter; I played a bunch of the iPhone Chu-Chu Rocket on my iPad. Course, Appshopper could be wrong.

They're going to. Release an update to allow it to play on iPad 2 soon.

Definitely going to pick up M&M: Clash of Heroes. IGN said it was better than the DS version, though they recommend playing on iPad as it gets a little cramped on iPhone. Cheapest it's ever been.

I've been holding off on Clash of Heroes since the launch, there were a bunch of complaints about technical issues. They've done several updates since then, not sure about the current state of the game.

Was going to mention M&M:CoH, but here's a few others caught by the store-scrapers:

Free:

  • Asteroid 2012 3D: (universal) ... $0.99 -> FREE
    mzl.skadfwal.480x480-75.jpg

  • Stay Alight: iPhone and iPad ... $0.99/$2.99 -> FREE
    mzl.ztohsmzg.480x480-75.jpg

  • Great Jitters: Pudding Panic: iPhone and iPad ... $1.99 -> FREE
    mzl.eupggcdj.480x480-75.jpg
Nice-priced:

  • Prince of Persia® Classic: iPhone and iPad ... $1.99 -> $0.99
    mzl.sctyppki.320x480-75.jpg

  • Great Big War Game: (universal) ... $2.99 -> $0.99
    mzl.maavanpj.320x480-75.jpg

  • McPixel: (universal) ... $2.99 -> $0.99
    mzl.ggtavnwy.320x480-75.jpg

  • Lost Cities: iPhone ... $3.99 -> $1.99
    mzl.xfpgswah.1136x1136-75.jpg

Oh, man. I got McPixel (mentioned above, link here) for a buck from the Steam Summer Sale. It's been a ton of fun. Picture a point-and-click Wario Ware game. However, you actually want to fail all the different ways in order to get a gold on each level.

Works great with a mouse on a monitor, but I assume it's just as intuitive with a touch screen.
