Apple Game Center

Apple Game Center allows you to keep a friends list, track your in game achievements, and compare with your friends. Many games support this.

General iOS FAQ

1. Make sure to check for periodic updates either in iTunes or on your iOS devices. For each release of new firmware, there's usually a bunch of games updated right afterward.

2. Some applications also go on sale by their authors when they reach 1 million download and similar milestones.

3. Apps often have specials the day before, during, and after holidays, regardless if said game/app is related to the holiday. Most notably is the fact that many developers discount their apps for Christmas and because Apple employees, in charge of App Store changes, take a break during the week of Christmas these discounts usually last until the new year.

4. Newly released apps will often have a % or dollar amount off for a limited period of time to gain a large following quicker. While browsing the app store you can go to a particular type or genre and order according to release date. This can make finding new app discounts faster.

5. Apps can be re-downloaded from your iOS device. To do this open the App Store and look for a tab called "Purchased". From here you can re-download any previously purchased apps.

6. I strongly advise not to buy iTunes Gift Cards by 3rd parties unless you know they can be trusted. Retail stores and receiving cards as gifts are the best ways. There are many credit card scams, stolen cards, hacked cards going around, especially on Ebay.

7. If you are the victim of a iTunes Card scam or get your account locked due to one not all hope is lost. Apple has been fairly lenient on these issues. Call Apple directly at 1-800-MY-APPLE or check the iTunes Store support page. Also going to your local Apple Store to discuss it can help. The account locking is an automated process and can be reversed. This can take time so be cautious if you use gift cards from 3rd party sources.

8. If you somehow break your iOS device, you have some options. If you bought the Applecare warranty it should be covered for most items. If your Applecare ran out or you don't have one, try using one of the repair guides on iFixit to repair it yourself. Apple Stores have been known to give discounts if you bring in a iOS device that they will not fix since it's not in warranty. This discount however is very small.

9. Using a screen protector can extend the life of your device. Most stores carry these, but they can be hard to install. The best I have personally used are made by a company called Power Support. They have both clear and anti-glare protectors. They are easier to install because the protector is a firm yet thin piece of plastic. Griffin Technologies and Zagg are also very good.

10. Universal Apps have a small plus sign in the upper left corner next to their price. They can be played natively on both the iPad and iPod/iPhone. iPhone games that are not universal can still be played on the iPad with a lower resolution. Non universal iPad games cannot be played on the iPhone.

Games by Genre as Recommended by Fellow CAGs

Feel free to add games, genres or move titles as needed. This list is to give CAGs a chance to catch up on high-quality games they may have missed and to get new users started on "can't miss" titles to download for their new iDevice.

Green titles are universal (ipad and iphone/ipod touch).
Italic are iPad only.
^ are retina optimized for the iPad.
* are iPhone 5/5th gen iPod Touch optimized.
Some game developers/companies like to offer free versions which are usually demos of the full version and a great way to check out and determine if you will actually like a particular game without paying anything. These demos are noted as such. Some game developers/companies like Zynga, however, like to offer free, AD-Supported, versions of their games which means you get the full game, but it features ads and by buying the paid version you remove those ads. AD-Supported games are noted as such.

The very first Shin Megami Tensei, originally on Super Famicom (SNES) and never before translated to English, is now on iOS! $5.99 intro price for a large RPG experience.
http://appshopper.com/games/shin-megami-tensei-eng
ugh I really want this, but I know that I'll never play it. especially on the iphone. especially with the game display covering only 60% of the screen, and those horrible button overlays. :whistle2:(

I feel the same way. Part of me is like: Playing the first one will finally get you to play all your Persona games you've only either dabbled in or not played at all! The other, bigger part of me then smacks that part, and reminds it of all the JRPGs in my backlog.

I picked it up and am loving it. I just finished Shin Megami Tensei IV on the 3DS and decided to dive into this first one.

Finder's Keep is really fun, or at least it's still got that fresh, new feel to it :) Friend ID is 42511LH if anyone wants to add/join my team.

I tried to get in on the PayPal discount, then they charged me full price! And this was before they sold out.

It didn't help that my desktop's browser displayed the page as a garbled mess. Hopefully they'll refund me the $5...

Can anyone suggest a game similar to Adventure Time Card Wars? I absolutely love that game.
I read the reviews of Adventure Time Card Wars, and many complained about IAP. I wouldn't care if the game is free, but it's 3.99, and before I pay that, I'm wondering how intrusive/necessary the IAP is.

For frame of reference, I have dumped scads of hours into Marvel Puzzle Quest and not spent a cent.

I haven't played Adventure Time CW yet but I am guessing the Penny Arcade Gamers vs Evil card game would be pretty similar. I heard it was a good intro card game and it's pretty funny and has cool characters/ illustrations. I enjoyed it quite a bit for the .99 sale price.

I've also dumped countless hours into Marvel Puzzle Quest. In between events/dead characters, my go-to game is Solforge. It's a collectible card game that you do not need to spend any money to play if you don't want to. When you start, you get two starter decks that are dual faction (there's 4 in the game). When you log in, you get a daily reward, as well as when you win your first game and third game. There's no grinding mechanic so you don't feel like you to play constantly. Every card in the game can be won by opening packs that you pay for with in game currency which you get just for logging in/daily rewards/match rewards. The tutorial can explain the game better than I can, but you basically have 5 card slots called lanes that you put your cards into and have them battle it out with an opposing deck. You're trying to drain your opponent down from 100 health to 0. You can play the AI, friends, or random people. There's a neat leveling up mechanic where when you play cards, you discard the next level of that card so you can draw a more powerful version of it. The game is made by the same guys who made Magic and Ascension. They just came out with an expansion for it today, so it's a great time to jump on.

Why not just hold your horses as Blizz is working on Hearthstone for iOS.
I read an article yesterday about it almost being complete, too. They're planning on pushing it out in a couple of weeks. I hope the article was accurate... Not that I need that game to suck my time away from home as well.

I heard similar. I enjoy the game but right now I've got so many "games" that I don't have time for it... :)

AND best of all it is AWESOME. There's a couple little things I would change but it is otherwise really solid! Even if you never had the luxury of playing Flappy Bird I still highly recommend Flappy Golf!
Apparently Noodlecake is pleased with how it's doing so far and may add a no-ad IAP as well as online multiplayer like Super Stickman Golf 2 has

I didn't know what to think when I heard flappy golf but once I saw that it was super stickman golf 2 with flappy bird controls I had to try it and its awesome. I hope they add multiplayer support soon because that's my favorite feature in stickman golf even though it wasn't always smooth.

Not exactly sure how the multiplayer would work, although I know they could figure that out. Either way I'd definitely be in favor of a no-ad IAP!

Anyone know what the IGN free game of the month is for April. Was searching for it this morning and found nothing

Ok, none of that was helpful at all.  While researching the nutritional aspects of apple butter, my mouse clicked the buy button on FTL.  Everyone can thank me when it's 75% off this weekend.

I'll be honest. I knew you were going to buy it... so, I didn't bother with a persuasive argument. I am fairly certain that you, as do I, already own FTL on steam. And, you were going to buy it irregardless.

This is true. I've been eagerly awaiting its iOS release since it was announced last year. FTL doesn't seem to find its way into my Steam playing time as often as I'd like and I've come close to beating it, but never have on several occasions. Now I'll be able to not beat it more often, now that I can take it with me.
