What are some examples you remember? What's your thought on them? Do you like them and think they're all in good fun or do they sorta cheapen the entire magazine for that month because you dont know what's real and what isnt?

EGM had a bunch. One that sticks out in my head is they said you could be all the other James Bond actors in Goldeneye 007. It was pretty obvious that it was a joke and sure enough the next month they said it was. Then I went to play at a friends house and he actually HAD THEM as playable characters with a game shark. Turns out the April Fools joke was actually for real.

Also the one with the Zelda Ocarina of Time redone like Twilight Princess that you would get for free with a preorder. I wished so much that that was true and not the joke.

I didnt mind the Lame Pro part of GamePro (back before they made me hate them) It was an obvious joke. You dont have to read something and think "Hm is this BS or true". Like when I read that Darth Vader and Yoda were going to be in the new Soul Caliber game I instinctively flipped to the front cover to make sure it wasnt an April issue.

personally i like the google april fools stuff.

i remember something about a google moon base.
i am actually looking forward to that.

lego halo was one from this yr in regard to gaming mags.

At first I thought the mario and sonic at the olympics announcment was an april fools joke.

For the record, I was born on april 2nd

I don't mind jokes in the April edition of a magazine. It usually isn't too hard to spot the fake stories.

I hate hate HATE online jokes on April 1st, though. Every piece of shit gaming blog out there tries to come up with a joke story and sites are just flooded with fake crap. I have taken the day off on April 1st the last couple of years because I don't even want to turn on my PC.

Not from a game magazine, but World of StarCraft, which was "announced" on GameSpot, was a pretty thorough piece of work. Of course, that was back in 2006, before SCII was announced.

The preview of CoD5 in this year's Game Infarcer is pretty good. It says the game's using CoD4's engine to fool people into thinking it's a real CoD game.
Sheng Long.

Yep, the ol' Sheng Long trick, the first and only one to actually fool me, after that I always watched out for them.

Simon Belmont in TMNT2. The original EGM April Fools' joke.

Of course, Sonic and Tails in Melee was the big one. Fooled me for a good 2 weeks. Although, you can
get Sonic the same way in Brawl from what I'm told
.

i think its was PSM.. but they had some sort of naked chick character (not tomb raider) i think it might have been for Valkyrie Profile.. im not so sure anymore.. but it was funny as hell and surprisingly so convincing. their next issue revealed that it was april fools. back then people didnt really respond through email so im sure they've received plenty of letters about it 5 days later.

And still the best. I remember trying that probably 30 times before giving up. They actually did a really nice job with it, making the code just one command too long to be able to do before the title screen vanished. It was semi-believable because they had never done something like that before, and it was at least conceivable since Ultra Games (who made TMNT2) was a Konami imprint.

Everything after that seemed too obvious, especially the Sheng Long prank.

The Sega Neptune. I'll never forgive EGM for that one. I had my credit card out and tried for a couple hours to get on that bogus site the printed the link to before I realized it was a 'joke'. Those dicks.

GI has that game infarcer every year for april fool's. Too bad it's revoltingly unfunny like most everything else in that magazine.
I remember one year Nintendo Power said Mario warp pipes were real.
That's a horrible April Fools joke. About as bad as EGM's Lord of the Rings Kart Racing or Lego Halo.
Anyone remember Super Mario 64 2 with Luigi?
That one was actually real. I remember EGM, Gamepro & Ultra Game Players(anyone remember that mag?) had screenshots of it from E3 '97/'98(or it might've been TGS).

Awww I liked Lego Halo. The chars looked so funny!

LOL at the "Not Milk" on the crotch plate.

Blizzard has a few other jokes up today as well. Kotaku's is kinda lame: everything is now cake related.

And now I see Cheapy's ^^^ joke for the day

Slightly confused as to which April Fools thread to post in...

So, both/and. Neat :)
