Arafat Dead: Welcome to Hell You Murderous Bastard (Finally fucking true!)
The following is a excerpt from an AIM conversation between myself and an evangelical friend of mine that I have nicknamed Mr. Bible (these are not our AIM IDs):

Mr. Bible: I heard today that Arafats death means that the rapture is soon at hand
Plumberboy: hahahahaha.
Plumberboy: He was 75 years old.
Mr. Bible: yep
Plumberboy: He had to die sometime.
Mr. Bible: and now hes dead
Plumberboy: You believe that?
Mr. Bible: well let me tell you what I heard first before you take what I'm trying to say out of context
Plumberboy: The anti-christ is our president. You could be right.
Mr. Bible: the bible says that when many leaders are pushing for peace in the middle east then our redemption is soon at hand
Mr. Bible: since arafat has died, many leaders are pushing for peace because they see an opportunity for peace
Mr. Bible: some well known prophetic scholars believe that the redemption is soon at hand ( the rapture)
Mr. Bible: because of arafats death
Mr. Bible: remember, if some day alot of people are all of a sudden missing from the earth, that was the rapture.
Mr. Bible: don't believe the lie that people will tell to explain people missing
Plumberboy: It's not going to happen.
Mr. Bible: well lets put it this way
Mr. Bible: if it does happen, you know the explanation
Plumberboy: Quit your wishful thinking, you're stuck here with the rest of us.

Why is it that Christians are so eager to bring about the end of the world?
Plumber this happens every 1000 years. I wish they'd realize that just because it's the dawn of a new century does not mean the Apocalypse is at hand. Watch it come like at 2200 or later and have most Christians be totally taken aback except the one's that were waiting year after year for it.

Many people have said that they have never seen a Presidential election get this vicious...
Most have not been alive for that long, or are of voting age, or maturity. American elections and campaigns have been vicious from the beginning. They are no more vicious or mean spirited, nor inspire more hatred, nor espouse more lies, mistellings, or exaggerated promises than any other election in our history. It's simply something to say in conversation, or said to incite more irrational emotional response.
He will be meeting Dick Cheney soon.
Why don't you report back to us on that meeting.

No, you're wrong. Maybe early on, when they still had duels, but we haven't seen anything this cutthroat recently. When I saw members of an Ohio suburb in the street in front of their houses waving signs and yelling at neighbours over who they were supporting I knew this election was special.

Trust me, I've never seen anything like this. And I live in a nice part of the DC metro area (wonk city).

You saw how many neighbors? In how many neighborhoods? In how many cities? counties? States? Everyone sees things relative to their own limited area of exposure. Just becuase you saw 2 neighbors arguing politics, does not mean it's indicitive of the populous as a whole, or that campaigns are more vicious today than at any other time. My argument is premised on the fact that campaigns have never been civilized and have always been divisive. Such is the nature of the political system. The burden of proof is upon your erroneous claim that elections have never been this way in the past.

People got depressed that Kerry lost.

People are seriously talking about moving to Canada.

I heard a guy on the Mclaughlin group seriously discussing peaceful succession of the northern states with large cities.

The 70s revolution was only a handful of people, these days you're talking about half of the nation holding sympathy for these ideas.

Please show me when this has happened in the US (since 1865).
