Arc Rise Fantasia RPG Gen. Discussion & Info+new Trailer Up
LMAO @ them dedicating a third of the review to the voice acting. I guess it really is that bad. Thanks for posting.

What do they mean by non-native speakers though? I heard they did the voice acting in Japan, did they get some fucking Japanese to do it?
Since this is Ignition we're talking about, the phrase "eh, we paid for the whole hour/day" comes to mind, and wouldn't surprise me. If the Japanese voice acting is decent, I would've preferred the Muramasa treatment. So ridiculous that we can't even choose Japanese VA with subtitles.

I wonder how fast this will drop though. I had (well, still have, but reconsidering) it pre-ordered for $25, but I don't know now.

I'd imagine that when an American company goes to Japan to get something localized from Japanese, you're probably looking at Japanese people doing the work. And yes, it's that awesome.

I have it ordered at $30, but considering I haven't even played Galaxy 2 or Trauma Team yet, even with the delay I don't think I need to rush out and get it. I don't need an RPG that bad since I picked up Suikoden on DS.

My pre-order is still set for $5 which I intend to keep so I can nab up the free cell. The game itself will be returned shortly after and will be picked up once again once it hits the bargain bin.

It was the Tales feel and art style that originally gripped me to this game, and it was the story and quite nice Japanese voice acting that kept me tuned. If it still had the Japanese voice acting it would be perfect in my eyes and worthy of a day one pickup, as it truly is worth every vocal note; You can hear it below for yourself.

A very sigh worthy moment as another great game is lost to Ignition. Siiiiiigh.

The sad thing is Marvelous went from XSeed to Ignition to save money. They probably lost more money giving it to Ignition because less people will buy it thanks to their shit "localization." But Ignition will probably tell them it's just a niche game that doesn't sell well in the US and Marvelous won't do the research on their own, and let them take another game from XSeed (as with Muramasa). Also, that fuckwad Shane Bettenhausen specifically told GAF that they "learned their lesson" from Lux-Pain and Nostalgia and this game would be getting the royal treatment. That guy has so much shit coming out of his mouth it's unbelievable.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I does Marvelous even get $ for each copy sold? I thought they just get a flat licensing fee and thats it. Also, yes, Shane is terrible.

Someone should send a gift basket full of Ignition's shit to Marvelous head quarters for them to play, or at least a montage video. Let them see the damage for themselves.

Doesn't MMV have a website or a phone number for feedback? I'd like to file a few dozen complaints for the good of gamers everywhere, as I am sure many other people would like to do.

Not sure about the money. If they do just get a flat fee then that explains that.

I certainly hope that they allow Atlus to grab hold of Luminous Arc 3 Eyes. They probably will since the first and second have both hit the states and can be considered a worthy series in their eyes for the increase of revenue.

Hopefully one day they can recuperate, and thusly give their games what they need most once more; Proper localizing teams. It would be a great loss to the gaming community for Marvelous Entertainment to go under. Perhaps they can team up with another video game development division to stay afloat.

Edit: Look at me talking as if they're all ready dead. One poor localization doesn't always spell a downfall, so I'd like to take a moment to apologize to anyone from Marvelous Entertainment who might ever read this. Just never let Ignition touch your games again for the love of all which is right with the world. ;)

Good lord, the VA is insufferable.

It's bad enough the game has PS2-era graphics, a cast of inane, cookie-cutter characters, and an only passable storyline. Ah well, I canceled my pre-order.

Is this game's VA is as bad as Chaos Wars -_- and does it have japanese voice acting options with subs? I'm interested in it, but just by reading posts, it seems like its not worth the cash.

I didn't even bother pre-ordering. I think this is destined to drop like a rock. It looks like a cheap shitty Tales knock-off to me.

It could've been ok. I mean, I can stand a reasonable Tales game...especially since the combat system sounded interesting. But there's just too much cost cutting in this package to make it worth my while.

At least it makes me want to play Vesperia again. :p

Playing Vesperia again is a good thing. Honestly though at first I was very excited for this game. It looked very promising to me. Then seeing the trailers and who localized the game made me very weary...

Guess I will wait to see people's impressions before purchase. I honestly am anticipating that it will not sell well and be discounted rather quickly. Which honestly is not good for us RPG gamers. The more localized games that come and sell like shit the less we are going to get.

Beautiful game but wow that was some horrible voice acting. I do still plan on getting this but I'm also praying for the hacker gods to create an undub version.

omg... saw the thread... didn't quite imagine that the VO was as bad as people were saying... so had to watch it myself...

some of it sounds like the acting in a 70's porno... seriously... if you're gonna do that bad of a job with it... just subtitle it and throw some midi tracks on it.

Marvelous really needed to stick with Xseed or go with atlus -_-, but I guess since they are going downhill right now and doing anything to stay afloat, ignition was their only choice. Will probably still get, but reluctant to pay full price after hearing that voice acting.

I had actually posted that back on page 5 (different link), but it's good to see that it's more or less confirmed now. Although coming out alongside Starcraft 2 will make me put off buying this for a while.
I'm still refusing to give any money to these clowns.
Same. In for bargain bin pricing.

Ignition has never done a good localization job. They are whats wrong with the industry...shody and half assed jobs like this should not be supported.

There's a reason people shouldn't call you a weeaboo just for prefering Japanese voiceovers. This is one of them. All their voices are mediocre but Maria is especially bad.

Playing with mute voices would just feel weird.

I might've bought this if it came out on schedule last month, but I'll be playing DQIX so I don't care.

I'll wait till it hits the bargain bin too.

Fixed.

Don't give a penny to these hacks. It's what I did when DQ4 came out with no Party Talk.
They will go from shitty localizing games to shitty facebook games. :p
Since I am never going near facebook, this is tremendous news!

LoL this has been out for a couple of days and not one impression?

I admit if the localization and VA acting wasn't attrocious, this doesn't look like a bad game otherwise. Too bad other people in the house hawg the TV the Wii is hooked up to.

After playing Star Ocean the Last Hope, I don't think I will pick this game up even on clearance. Star Ocean has such an awful script and VAs that I want to throw my controller every time I read or hear something. The VAs especially are absolute garbage and make the game a terrible experience to play through (though I'm doing it since I spent money on it). Knowing that, I can easily see myself getting pissed off trying to play this game, heh.

So I saw a copy last night at GS was on the verge of buying but then decided not to. I want to game but not for 39.99 but then again I don't want it OOP. decisions decisions
Comes out 27th
I got mine on the 23rd. Apparently, my local GameStops got them early or something. The game is great, aside from the voice acting. Only a few characters had decent voices. Unfortunately, a large majority of the game has voice acting.
voice acting aside how is the quality of the localization? Is it as bad as Lux Pain?
The localization actually wasn't that bad. It's better than a lot of recent JRPGs.
Just to confirm... there is an option to just turn off the voice acting, correct?
You can set the voice volume to 'Silent' from the in-game System menu.

Yea I think by Saturday hopefully someone can tell me if this game is worth the price was going to pick it up when I pick up StarCraft 2 for my stepdad but not without a solid review.

I was initially excited, after all, the Wii has a pretty barren rpg library. But this just looks too vanilla for me, and I'm still deep into DQIX. Maybe when it drops down to like $20 (which might be fairly quickly anyways) maybe I'll give it a shot.

Thanks for the link man. I'm getting the game in the mail from gamefly tomorrow. Will spend a few hours and see whether or or it goes back the next day.

LOL @ "I'm going to shoot my self in the head...Oh wait. Different RPG."

EDIT:
LOL Those guys are entertaining...I can't think of anything else that's being be released TODAY.....
