Are 360 Elites proving to be more reliable in general?

My 3rd 360 just died on me (E74) and it does not fall under warranty anymore. I think I'm just going to go the route of an Elite. I haven't been keeping track of all the different revisions the console has had, so I don't know.

Are the Elites proving to be far more reliable than the Pro consoles? I tried going out today to hunt around for the "Falcon" models with HDMI (Lot 734 and above, Team FDOU, build date of 8.24.07 or later), but have had no luck. Do I have to go through the same trouble with the Elite consoles or should I be alright going with them.

I was hoping to just order it from Amazon to save me the time and inconvenience. Also, the Elites come with HDMI cable and the audio adapter dongle for optical out use right?

I'd appreciate all your input on the matter. Thanks.
 
If you're having to spend money on a replacement XB360, then I'd wait til next month - hopefully by then the pipeline will be filled with the new chip models and you can find one easily.

I've had an Elite since the end of June this year, and it has performed flawlessly. I made sure that it is pretty much the only device on the shelf in the cabinet it is in, and that it is well ventilated (the sides of the cabinet are mesh, so good airflow).

You sure you're not covered under one of the extensions to the original warranty?

I have the E74 error (one red light on the bottom right) and the extended warranty only applies to the 3-red lights. I got this third replacement system the second week of October last year from MS, so it's just past the one-year warranty they gave with it.

So do all Elites have the new heatsinks? I know not all have the newer chipsets, but I just got 8 new games in the last month from the TRU B2G1F sales and I have GHIII coming in. I don't think I can wait 'till next month to grab another system.

if you aren't going to use the 120 GB HD, then I personally don't think it's worth the money. Elites, spec wise, are almost identical to the other 360s so why should we have any reason to believe that they are any more reliable?
 
AFAIK the elites are exactly the same internally as the HDMI premiums now, so they shouldn't be any more reliable than those.
 
Is the audio dongle (for optical audio out) available separately, though? I've only seen those bundled with the Elites.

That's certainly not a dealbreaker for me either way, but it's another cost I have to factor into getting another Premium or going with the Elite.
 
Elites are not more reliable than any other model of 360. I bought one at the beginning of July, and by mid-August it was dead....and I'd say I had less than 50 hours of play time on it. The replacement I got from MS has worked flawlessly, but it's only been a couple months...

It is available for $50, my custom dongle only cost $13.50 :p. All I needed was a used psyclone 360 A/V cable from GS, a knife and some electrical tape...

I actually dremeled the plastic down some too (until it was a hole and I had to use more electrical tape...), but that's not entirely necessary it just fits a little better.

isn't there a way to buy the cable such that one can use HDMI and the component hookup at the same time?
