I am looking for the best way to learn to "solve" the Rubik's cube. I've looked at a few websites, but I think the best way for me to learn would be through a book.

Has anyone read any of the dozens of books out there? Any insight on what the best one is??

I have one like this:

I got it for $.50 at a library book sale several years back and I really like it. I like it because it gives you the moves to do in specific situations to solve it directly, but it also identifies a few key moves you can use a couple times in succession to solve it that takes a little longer, but requires less steps to memorize. It's also just a small pamphlet basically so it keeps it simple.

I can solve one in about 1:30 to 2 minutes. (Which isn't all that fast by any means.) My method is pretty easy to remember but not speedy.

Use a method where you solve layer by layer there are sites that give decent solutions. I learned from a little slip that came with my cube.

This is a pretty good beginner's solution

First solve it with the directions in front of you a bunch of times. You should be able to solve the first layer without any trouble right off the bat. Then work to where you can solve the middle layer from memory and only need the instructions for the last layer. Then memorize the solution for the last layer and you have it down.

It's a cool/nerdy thing to know how to do as people that haven't memorized a solution are blown away when you solve one in a minute or two.

one time I was bored so I bought a rubiks cube and messed it all up.

I thought it would be a fun puzzle to keep me occupied during my downtime.

every day I put my heart and soul into trying to solve it on my own, until one day I came back and all my progress was messed up!!!

my roommate all phycked it up and I got all sad... so my other roommate began to play with it and I went out for a bit.

while I was out the dood who took it got the solution online and solved it. then he kept on messing it up and solving it for fun.

then he was like "hey dood mess up your rubiks cube so I can solve it"

and ever since those days I've never touched it again... my hopes and dreams and goals were destroyed.

it currently resides on my bookshelf, solved, constantly reminding me of my shame and wasted effort
