Are consoles bought off ebay/craigslist covered by warranty?

Say I want an xbox one but, don't feel like paying $30 in taxes to the goverment would it still be covered by the 1 year warranty?

Nope.  The only thing that they cover is if you get a modded console(modded consoles are against their ToS) or if it arrives damaged.

If you want one with a 1 year warranty, you're going to have to buy a new one.

Officially, warranties don't transfer but if you say you received the item as a gift or a family member, then companies will sometimes honor the warranty anyway.

So how about ebay stores that are tied to official resellers?  I know that places like newegg have ebay shops.

Since the console hasn't been out for a year, it would be covered at a minimum from date of manufacture if you have no receipt from an authorized retailer of the product.  eBay isn't one. 

You can buy a warranty from SquareTrade for something you bought from eBay, if you want to.   It's even offered at time of eBay purchase, if I remember.

Though, even if you buy it on eBay, you still have to pony up use tax on the item if you don't pay sales tax on it from eBay.

No console purchased will have warranty unless it's new in the box with a receipt in hand.
