hey guys,

so ive always wanted to buy the x41 turtle beach wireless headset. it looks so sexy. but when i saw it on best buy today for the first time physically; i started to have second thoughts. like, im not really into "sound" or anything. i play my video games competitively online (lol, not in tournaments, but i care about winning and getting good stats so im serious), and i play everything with a moderate volume.

however, im not against playing with improved sound quality as well. i dont have a good sound system; i use the speakers on the tv.

but idk, do you guys who have gaming headsets (the expensive ones) think that it was worth the investment?

thanks guys! :D

Well from what I understand, most serious online competitors play with a headset, because it allows you to hear game sounds better, by nature of blocking outside sound. Also it allows you to play games late at night and such without bothering others, unlike if you had a surround sound speaker set.

If you're just using your TV speakers right now, you are not taking advantage of the directional surround sound that your console is capable of. Supposedly, "gaming headsets" allow you to experience full directional sound like if you had a surround sound system, without having to set up multiple speakers. I have never tried one myself to know if it actually works as advertised, or if a physical set of speakers is still better. In my living room I have a surround sound setup and it does enhance the immersion to actually be able to hear sounds coming from different directions. I think these are the main reasons people use headsets when playing competitively online- the directional sound can and does improve your situational awareness in games, and the ambient noise blocking lets you hear the game sounds more clearly.

If you are interested in a headset, and mainly for competitive gaming, then I would make sure it does directional sound well. Otherwise, I would invest instead in a quality set of stereo headphones (gaming headsets don't have near the audio quality of a good set of headphones) but as you say, you are not really into "sound", so maybe a set of high quality headphones may be lost on you. Although, maybe you aren't into "sound" because you never have heard how good things can sound with some quality equipment... :)

The headsets make a big difference. If you have a true dolby 5.1 set, you hear about the same as you would out of a home theater setup. I had the Tritton 720p set and they were great. I bought them to use at night so I wouldnt wake the wife or the kids while gaming. Down side was if the baby woke up, I could not hear him or anything else for that matter so I took them back. Other thing I didnt like was all the wires. I guess if you sat at a desk and played, it's not bad. But running them across the floor was a pain in the culo. But since you are getting the X41's, you dont have that worry. I say go for them because you will be blown away by everything you hear
Oh, and make sure you keep extra batteries on hand!
I would suggest getting 2 sets of rechargeable batteries so that you can always have a set ready. They do seem to go through batteries pretty fast. Other than that, I highly recommend them.

Playing something like Dead Space 2 or even Call of Duty with a set of good headphones makes the experience much more immersive IMO. I love my DX11's.

Oh man, Dead space is awesome with a great headset or even a home theater setup. I had goose bumps the whole time I played Dead Space LOL
